How do I enjoy this? It feels like everything is so slow and nothing happens until someone declares war on me then I get rolled over or roll them over. When does the fun begin? I like 4x games usually...
Skill issue, I'm afraid. If you're getting steamrolled you're not playing effectively. Try a lower difficulty, like cadet.
>>740273891>or roll them over.
There should be something at every point in the game you can work towards. There are planetary developments, technologies, your staff, something about the society, something about diplomacy or the galactic institutions, some kind of anomaly, scouting, managing populations, something about the market, etc. But that being said, warfare is probably the most fun thing in the game that can last for many years.
All potential the game had died in 2017
>>740272764Learn the basics of the game and then look up broken builds. Then once you've gotten a good grasp of what's a good or bad thing to do, start planning out your own broken shit.Alternatively, you can just LARP.
>>740276349I try but 90% of the time I'm waiting on bars to tick down or solving a problem that I had to have solved 5 minutes agoIt just feels like waiting around / busywork instead of getting things done, idkMaybe that's why people do broken combos
>>740272764I lowkey refuse to even touch the game after they completely dumped blobby borders and the ftl systems in the Apocalypse updateIf you want quick, easy-to-understand Fun, try masters of Orion or endless spaceif you want depth, try Distant Worlds (or Aurora if your incredibly autistic)if you want moddability, try Gal Civ 2 or 3if you want just want a fish tank galaxy to watch interstellar civilizations be born and die, try Galimulator
>>740272764roleplay. come up with your both flawed and flourshing schizoid empire and play them from start to finish.also mods>>740277212you could try a faster paced space 4x like endless space 2.
>>740277752It just feels like even if I rush tech for example I'm sitting here thinking "oh boy 10 more minutes until I can get frigates!", I'll look at endless space thanks!
>>740272764If you're intelligent, you should always have something interesting to do in this game, to the point where even playing on Slowest speed is too fast sometimes. If you're not intelligent you're not going to have a good time.
>>740278051paradox map painters aren't for everyone. me, i always used to play civ on epic. just the pace i prefer, typically i'll have stellaris on one monitor and tv/movies on other for top tier comfortendless space 2 is a decent game i put a couple hundred hours in most of its glaring issues fixed post-launch (by now). since games are typically over around a hundred turns - or they were last i played - you've got to make the most of it
>>740272764Try to roleplay your empire as a character in RPG.
>>740272764Problem is, Stellaris is not actually a game. Its a DLC chassis.
>>740272764Play a devouring swarm or robo exterminator and skip the boring early game by declaring war day 1.
>>740272764Every major patch makes Stellaris worse. But the fun is in exploring with your science ship and finding interesting events like you're a star trek science commander.
>>740280925Science events just get skipped once you've seen them all. If you want a real Star Trek sim, play Approaching Infinity. You can even catch alien diseases if you take your helmet off!

>>740275792Was that the year they released the pop/economy update? Endgame became unplayable after that performance hit.
>>740282286which one lmaoperformance now is back around to 3.4 levels
>>740284140>performance now is back around to 3.4 levelsWasn't that from them raping fleets and not fixing their spaghetti code population system? I haven't played in a while.
>>740272764No, you've got it. It's a waiting simulator and the most fun part by far is designing your species and empire. In terms of gameplay, there is no gameplay
>>740284192pop/economy was 4.0fleet sizes were reduced in 4.3
Is there any reason I shouldn't be opening with Discovery every game?>faster surveys = more territory to claim>faster tech = be better than your neighbors>more research alternatives = no getting stuck researching useless tech you don't need
You have to RP as whatever creature you're playing
>>740272764The fun begins in late game.Crippling lag begins in late game too.Not a game I would recommend.
You're all wrong. It's a disappointment simulator. Where it turns out every single fucking interesting event in the game has been monopolized by the AI so there wasn't any point in you doing anything.
The game's dead rn, AI doesn't work.Much worse than even other pdx games.
They updated all the fucking fun out of the game.
>>740284604I mean that's about it. You get roughly +30% research early on if you pay the trade tax for researchers, complete the tradition and take the tech perk.
>>740272764You cantNot without all the dlc.See at launch it was fun.But paradox adds dlcs that change the base game making it largely unplayable without them.AI ignores ship limits even when it destroys their economy because they all cheat which will instantly make them better than you and you get forcibly added to a galactic council where youll be severely punished for expanding.Unless you own the dlcs or cheese the mechanics anyway. It's just not worth it.
>>740272764Play against other players around your skill level. The AI is bad, it'll almost always be laughably behind you unless you crank up the difficulty to the point where it cheats with a million bonuses. Similar issue to Civ games.
>>740272764>>740280925these. early game is fun exploring the galaxy etc. (for 1 or 2 playthroughs after which you have seen every event) Then it's just boring endless war conquering the galaxy.
