Let's have a rare thread about people's actual opinions. In your first post of the thread, post an actual opinion you hold. Every post past the first five should also respond to another post with a meaningful comment.
>>740285681Gaming is just as fun now as it was in the Arcade/NES days. Fuck the internet as a whole, but especially fuck you guys for being the most miserable fucking cunts who refuse to enjoy anything. Fuck this thread. I'm going to play some video games.
>>740285681Any sort of rating system and discussion about how good/bad a game is suffers from the fact that every person can and will approach the same game in different ways. Yes, you can bring up technical deficiencies, that's the one thing I think any sort of game discussion ought to have, but the moment you move past that onto mechanics, artstyle, et cetera, it becomes a wholly subjective minefield where being "right" is having the same kind of "right" as people arguing over their sportsball teams. Yes, maybe a game has abominable dogshit movement feel in the way of a dev forgetting half the physics values already and the artstyle looks as though a stylus was shoved up the ass of an intern told to twerk on a canavs, but, again, that's toward the extreme end of the spectrum. The issue lays in discussion of games that tend toward the middle, divisive in the way that many will take issue with the same things that some will enjoy. It's a loop, it's just a total, constant loop where the game is just background noise for a flaming contest to see who can make the most replies out of using the same templated arguments that're more choreography than anything: "it's shit" "how do you know that" "let people enjoy things" "enjoy eating shit?" TLDR - numbers are stupid, 5/6 should mean middling again, mid should mean mid and not shit, and we should all think before we type. Unlike me, maybe.
>>740285681the /v/ schisms and board splits were from day 1 a failure and now due to traffic slowdown are utterly pointless anyway. Literally everyone but me should apologise and either advocate deleting /v/ entirely, renaming it to /vb/, or tell mr hirochev to tear down this wall and just have /v/ and /v/ alone with the sole goal of video games, any kind of video game. thankfully because this place is being run like it's a coma patient if you disagree it no longer matters because that would take a proactive approach.
Mario Kart 8 > Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
>>740285681Pixel and low poly graphics are ok, sadly a lot of devs use them as a crutch because the barrier is low. But old games literally prove that they can look good, the important thing is having a solid art style.
>>740286035To add to this there are a number of games, "classics", that gained their reputation within their own time, their own operational context. Judging older games by the standards of CURRENT YEAR and current expectations forgets why exactly those games were championed. The past is a different country and all that. >>740286015Sort of inevitable, really. There's the THING, and there's the DISCUSSION AROUND THING, and at some point more people are into DISCUSSION AROUND THING over THING itself. Kind of inevitable with consumer-based items. See: benchracers, gear queers, anything that involves spec sheets.>>740286150There's also the consideration that old games with that "style" were working within the limits of their current-day technology, whereas newage pixel/lowpoly aspirants take the wrong lesson and think it means "use new tech but simplify it"
>>740286150I agree, and I think a compounding factor is that most devs don't really limit themselves in any way. Part of what made old games look good was that they were doing their best within a limitation. Now most games just use it as an excuse to be lazy. I'd say its why Yacht clubs games stick out from other indie games, they're trying to imitate the graphical limitations of older hardware, not just making things blocky.
>>740286015Correct. If you're remotely sane you should not be actually taking /v/ seriously at any time. However, I don't endorse mindless optimism either and simply encourage everyone to consider everyone's opinions in general here complete trash.>>740286035Yes, but you've fallen for your own trap right at the end by going "Rating systems should be XYZ" after spending a paragraph explaining why any rating system is inherently flawed. Whoops. >>740286113that seems cruel to do to /vg/ who actually discuss video games, terribly. >>740286123I don't play mario kart but didn't want to pretend I didn't see you.>>740286150Sure? I don't think this is specific to lowpoly/pixel as much as it is generally true that smaller devs will gravitate towards producing games within their scope of resources and that some of them will be good at it and some of them will be shit.my rare opinion is that we are sleepwalking into a major issue with the mostly digital distribution format for games in that the next world war will almost certainly in my opinion involve internet infrastructure being constantly damage and thus making it harder to distribute globally.
you don't have to reply to every post ITT.First time making a thread?
Incel chuds should try to get laid
>>740286980>own trapWell, it's flawed, but if people're going to use it, might as well repair the damage that's been done to it. But hey, I'm just typing all of this in one go while spacing out, so forgive my lack of rigor
>contrarianism the thread
>>740286980I think we should all remember the adage that the Internet is not Serious Business
>>740287057>First time making a thread?OP here, I've only responded to one post.
Gaming is thriving and there's so much fucking choice of stuff to play, I genuinely wish I could freeze time just to be able to play all the vidyajames that interest me.And it is terribly annoying how the only way I am exposed to a lot of the uninteresting garbage that sometimes comes out is via faggots being bitter about it on /v/: I don't care about GoW, I have never played one and likely never will, but I know exactly what the new trailer or whatever looks like because subhumans are too busy involuntarily shilling for it rather than... talking about whatever else they may enjoy. Mind you, this is an issue with modern internet communities as a whole: why be positive and dedicate your time and efforts building something you enjoy, when you can just be a miserable ape that sits there circlejerking with fellow retards about things you hate? Whenever I need a self-esteem boost I take a gander at /vmg/ and admire the sheer amount of mentally ill fucks raving on about gacha drama, about X company getting a certain number of sales or Y company saying a certain thing on social media: and I initially thought, I really did, those were marketing bots that stirred up drama on purpose, but I'm afraid they're actually "humans".>>740286113Fuck that, the split was good: some topics naturally attract more apes chimping out than others, and I'd rather not have my comfy generals constantly on life support because gacha thread #257 has gotten uppityTake a gander at /mu/'s catalogue, and imagine how bad things would be if we also allowed that
There are unironically paid shills that constantly shitpost every board on 4chan just for the sake of driving away genuine users. Some of them wormed their way into being mods and/or jannies.>>740286113/vg/ has to exist because there's a few threads there that constantly move at lightning speed and stuffing them all into the same place would clog up this board and make discussion even more impossible than it is.
>>740286015Normalfags have infiltrated everywhere. Video games being made these days are designed for gibbons and they're mostly ubislop, roguelites and those goofy multiplayer only silly games like leathal company. So not only we get a decent (not great) game once in a decade MAYBE, we also cannot hold a decent discussion here or have any kind of fun because as you can see /v/ is now for twitter screencaps, masturbating, politics, gacha and multiplayer shit that we used to bully people for playing. Anyone who has been here long enough has a screencap folder that stops somewhere around 2015 because that was the last time we got a good thread ON OCCASION and if the stars alligned.
