Ps1/Saturn or Ps2/Wii? For a first time playing it, which would be the better version? Is it actually good or just some pretentious slop? Of course I'll play it and come to my own conclusions, but I'd like to hear a bit from those who already played it.
>>740286974They're different games between the newer and older releases. PS1 on paper sounds like a good choice because of a huge post game dungeon much in the vein of some 99f dungeons in Shiren games, but the game itself suffers from floors being padded out to be longer, on top of enemies missing some frames of animation. Saturn is the way to go. >Is it actually good or just some pretentious slop? There's a reason I compared the PS1 post game to Shiren: the game is basically real time first person mystery dungeon, and it rocks.
>>740286974Saturn
>>740286974>>740287061I should clarify what I mean by padding: I specifically mean they add more floors in between the floors with plot advancement events tied to them on PS1. The game can be a little cryptic at times to finish up its quests, which is where its difficulty is rather than being harder for combat like, say, Shiren would be. This makes runs longer, which should be fine, but because the game is designed to be replayed pretty quickly it can make it drag a little bit. Saturn also just looks nicer than PS1 as well.
>>740287081>>740287136I imagine it might have an English patch for the Saturn version then. What emulator did you use? Or did you play it on the original hardware?
>>740287419Yes it doesPlayed it on beetle saturn core
>>740287419It does have a patch, yes. I just used the Beetle Saturn core in Retroarch as, as far as I'm aware, it's your best bet for emulating Saturn unless a good standalone has came along. I do actually have a Saturn now though, and I've thought about importing a copy because I really loved the game and it's not too spendy.
>>740286974Is this the best roguelike ever made? I swear I've never seen anything as good as Baroque.
>>740287482I loved it, but I would be lying if I said I wasn't having even more fun with Shiren the Wanderer on SFC due to all the pot shenanigans and stuff. What Baroque really excels in is the atmosphere, it's absolutely oozing with it. I will admit in the case of Shiren too, that might be recency bias since I just finished the main 30f dungeon in that game a bit ago.
>>740287468>>740287475I see. I'll look into it tomorrow then. Thought Saturn emulation would be more hassle than it's worth, but it doesn't seem to be that hard. Thank you!
>>740286974i like them both, but saturn has the superior atmosphere. also the ps2/wii has a third person mode they 100% did not balance at all.
>>740286974saturn version is better, however i think the wii/ps2 version's soundtrack is on par, despite being pretty different.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x0uStc_UoZ8https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d48p1mdWyPE
This game filtered me hard
Saturn. It's a fun game, you'll quickly run into issues where you want to figure out some esoteric quest bullshit and be hit with massive spoilers for half the other game elements that you were intended to discover through dialogue chains, though. I don't think there's a walkthrough that doesn't hit you with fucking lore dumps from the artbook about the nature of every enemy in the game.
>>740287982The remake's soundtrack isn't bad, it's just that it loses so much of the oppressive atmosphere of the original.
>>740288250some songs get there. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lcs_hqrtBCk
>Look to the east. The distorted ones writhe in pain.
>>740287468>>740287475What about using Ymir?
>>740286974you baroque it, now you have to fix it
>>740289030lowkirkenuinely laughed at this.
