Ruina is a complete shift in gameplay and the story also starts focusing outward into the overall setting instead of being bottled up in Lob Corp's facility. It's a very good game and story and probably the most recommendable game of the series, but deals with the direct fallout of the lob corp ending and furthers the character stories of the lob corp characters, so if you skip lob corp you can feel a bit lost at the start of ruina while you're being introduced to both the current story and previous game's story at once.Limbus doesn't exactly directly connect to the previous two games, but Lob Corp's ending was a big city-wide event and a lot of major players got involved in ruina's events so it's not like you'll be completely avoiding the story. While Ruina was more concerned with the immediate fallout and followup to lob corp's ending, limbus is mostly focused on the larger scale paradigm shift across the city. Its mechanics are vaguely based on ruina, so if you play ruina you'll be more set for understanding the gameplay (because it's pretty hard to grasp with how much of the initial story can just be facerolled)
