What are the worst development hells in videogame history? We all know of Duke Nukem Forever, but are there any other notable ones? Deltarune seems to be in a pretty bad spot right now too.

Beyond Good & Evil 2 definitely qualifies by this point

>Game was released in a rushed state because Konami was pushing for the dev to team release the project as soon as possible so they could fire the entire studio.
>It was so bad director self-inserted himself in the game, not to jerk himself off, but instead just to say "I got kicked out lol"

Did you make this thread solely to share this nonsensical line?

Deltarune isn’t particularly bad. Yeah, it will take something like a decade for it to be completed, but at least it progresses at slow but steady pace.

Mewgenics could be here, it was announced in 2012 and seemed like a dead project for years, but then it actually got released and it’s even damn good, so it’s a rare case of a game fighting through dev hell and succeeding.

Project Zomboid is probably a good example too. It’s a cool game, but the development speed is utterly glacial, it’s been 13 years and the game isn’t even remotely close to featuring the things it was supposed to include and I genuinely don’t expect for it to hit 1.0 ever. It’s still enjoyable and unique experience as-is, but there’s no way around the fact that features getting delayed for over 10 years are absolutely an example of dev hell.

What about Star Citizen?

Limbo of the Lost (yeah, even considering how it eventually released). STALKER and Team Fortress 2 as honorable mentions but both had happy endings

Devil's Third. Changed game engine two times and publisher three times and also changed platforms and then became a massive flop.

Halo 2

FF12 took 5 and a half years to release, there's at least 3 different versions of the game

Star Citizen is on hell for the backers. The developers do next to nothing and collect paychecks, it's development heaven for them.

Limbo of the Lost was shelved for a decade, then the concept was reused for a different new game.

I can't believe FFXV wasn't the first answer. The first version was completely scrapped 7 years in and they rebuilt it for a new console. 10+ years in development.
