I have basically zero immediate excitement or interest in whatever the next big game is going to be and will wait to see how it lands with players.The thing is, I don't even particularly think its a symptom of growing older, I played Nioh 3 and enjoyed it this year and while I have my gripes about the format for Nightreign I find the moment to moment gameplay and combat to be more enjoyable because it leans harder into action gameplay with stronger player identity with the various characters and their gimmicks. I don't think the problem is the genre, I think the problem is in the game design where From wants to make harder and harder games to challenge longtime fans and reached a point where the overall gameplay sandbox breaks because of a disconnect in encounter design and the scope of what is even possible from the player. Basically this was just a lot of words to say that Fromsoft needs to pick a lane about being an action game or an immersive action RPG and stick to one or the other.

I don't think "outgrew" is the correct choice of word but I no longer have any tolerance towards endless walls of text, cutscenes, filler content like mindless collecting or errand boy quests.My main concern is gameplay quality, with other aspects like music and graphics not being very important and story being absolutely irrelevant to me.On the other hand I read more than ever.

Had real people die in my life. Had real emotional exhaustion. To the point where Im not looking for it in my fiction, nor do I have the energy to give it to fictional characters. I just want stuff that makes me happy so I can get through another day in real life.

Now they're designed with the intention to make you lose 50 times until you memorize them perfectly. In an already long ass game.
Im 39 and dont see myself playing videogames in about 5 years outside porno ones, I just found other hobbies that I find more interesting like figures/miniatures, 3D printing/3D animation. Ive been playing vidya since I was 5, I feel like Ive mastered the medium, its also all getting really shitty now.
