Is Elden Ring still worth playing in 2026? How’s the enemy variety?

I'm thinking of playing Elden Ring. The last Souls game I played was Bloodborne. I was really burnt out on the formula after that and have played nothing by From since, but I think I might be ready for another go at the rodeo now. How's pyromancy in ER? Is it fun?
if you never played it sure. but we're ready to move on from Demon's Souls at this point

>>740311750There's some cool pyromancy but it's not as prominent as it was in Dark Souls where it was a full seperate spell tree that didn't interact with int and faith. Pyromancy are a miracle type in Elden Ring. That said most of the classic Pyromancy are still in the game.
Only thing I hate is how many weapons and spells you get early that you can't use until late game unless you forsake everything for the required stats.

>>740312356I know that, but at that point you won't have enough points to re-stat for some stuff like the giant weapons. Also, if you dump smithing stones on a weapon and drop the stats to use it to try something else you feel kind of dumb.

The game would genuinely be better if they cut out a quarter of the content, so if you're playing it for the first time, my suggestion is that you don't obsess over perfectly exploring everything.

>>740311278You should try out ER Reforged on Reforged difficulty if you're replaying it in 2026. They hid rune pieces around the map that you treasure hunt to upgrade your great rune. Even large shrimp enemies can one shot you. Agheel has impossible AI. Crabs can put you to sleep with bubble attacks. Torrent can get poisoned and scarlet rot. There's a bestiary that you have to tag enemies to get their Pokedex entry.Then Tarnished Edition will add new stuff this year too :)

It has been almost 10 years since I last played a From Soft game. I think that's enough time to have my juices recharged. And I don't play a lot of open world games since it's not my preferred type of level design, but every now and again I will indulge in one for a few months. I'm hoping ER's open world will at least be a few grades above the typical Ubisoftian style. I don't think it's an impossibly high bar and I'm sure From can pull it off.

Something I wish I had known when playing through the first time (not that it would have changed my style of play, I'll admit) is that guard counters and shield builds are not only viable, they're very, very good.
