made this for when the enemy boss is put down. People told me to add some slowmo and I think it looks cooler now thanks to that. The boss is done now, all that's left is to add the tutorial tooltips, playtest and release the demo
>>

love the impact frame very funny

nice, hope you like the little slowmo too

If you are not writing your own engine with ECS then you're not a serious game developer.

Is the player character customizable or a set character?
Current model reminds me of Laios
>>
>>740312895
It baffles me that is still the only choice for Source 2 and even that is not out yet
>>
>>740313025
He's a set character, although I might redesign him to have him look a bit more heroic and less generic. Do you like the current design?
>>
>>740312895
Don't remind me how badly Garry fumbled the Source 2 SDK. I was just getting over it.
>>
>>740313189
I like him but I guess it depends what you're going for, reads as a very stoic/traditional knight to me atm in design.

yeah that's what I'm going for! serious dude, traditional hero

damn, old pic. He has sideburns now
>>
>>740312902
Unless if you're making Factorio 2 you don't need all that power. Also most of us have to wage slave full time, personally I'd go insane and lay on the train tracks before finishing an engine which could take years for anything decent.
>>
didn't godot have a melty over some of their biggest donors having wrong opinions and then decided to ban them from donating?
>>

>>
>>740312509
>webms you can hear
>>
>>740314029
it just seems to be a common pattern in open source software, they are more preoccupied with activism and politics than actually developing their software
it happens in mozilla, gnome, almost all linux distros, etc...
>>
Godot is cosy. Relaxed. I share a familiar incompetence with it and its comforting.

When I use Unity, it feels like the engine is smirking at me. Each time I press something or type some code, the smirk grows. By the time I'm finished for the day and press that freeing X in the top right, I can hear it laughing. I don't know how to elaborate further.

Unreal feels like a schizophrenic. Hunched over in a chair, eyes bulging, hands grasping his hair so hard that he is one muscle spasm away from scalping himself. I don't go near that one.

Anyone else feel the same?
>>
can you explain to me why engines aren't the same and how to make one that is better than the others? How engines work? handhold me when you're explaini g please thanks
>>
>>740314116
yeah and you seem more preoccupied with dramas than making a game lol
just ignore that shit anon, engines are just tools
>>
>>740314250
?
I boycott all major game publishers because I dislike them on a moral level why should I make an exception for game engines?
>>
>>740314320
because you aren't giving them any money but instead taking advantage of their hard work?
>>
>>740314370
I could also just pirate AAA games but I don't do it because I'm not
1. a nigger that wants free stuff
2. a jew that only cares about the material/monetary benefit of something

That's like 2 years old news at this point. I know you're desperate to bash some trannies, but there should be plenty of new material for you to get busy with.

>>740314581
horse armor DLC is 16 year old news now
doesn't mean you should start buying bethesda games now

Is cry engine free to use?
>>740312037
We never talk about niche engines, don't we?
>>
>>740314854
Is middle one unfinished or just by a different artist? The lack of shading is very noticeable.

>>740318115
I'd guess 99% of /v/ doesn't even grasp the concept of an engine an thinks it's just what decides how photorealistic your games look, so no surprise people don't talk about niche ones. But I can talk for a bit about babylonJS if anyone's interested.
>>
>>740318727
unfinished, while the main script is mostly done a lot of the art assets are still being worked on
>>
>>740318727
>babylonJS if anyone's interested.
Sure am. I asked about engine selection and anon explained to me that all the stuff that I think about has nothing to do with my baby projects. It's true and starting (randomly) is a vital step to gamedev, nevertheless I'm still interested in engines and it's properties. Started with godot, might switch to range engine (blender engine fork). Both are surprisingly easy to handle. My favourite coding environment is alexa ask.

Good on you for making progress, and having restraint. I've been stuck for a year drawing portraits for the 100+ characters that I need, and redrawing them as I get better at art.

>>740321036
It's an opensource engine owned by Microsoft made for web and VR. The core/glue is written in Typescript but a big and increasing amount of stuff is handled by native libraries. The physics engine is Havoc for example, and a few years ago an anon on here was working on extracting it.
It's pretty neat thing and you can do a surprising amount of stuff in the browser. The dev experience for webdev is second to none and especially UIs are a breeze because you're using the tools any techcorp uses for their UIs. SQLite is a god tier solution for your data and you can run it in a browser. My Golden Sun like class system was literally a single line of SQL. Likewise, XML makes for an easy human readable file format with an amazing API, especially CSS selectors. Wrote an interactive dialogue system in an afternoon that I could feed an existing tool for this.

The biggest downside for your random anon is that it is code first and foremost. There various tools like a level editor, but don't expect to have an engine.exe that opens an editor you'll never leave.
However, I did drop it eventually and switched to godot. My use case, stylized 2D in 3D, is not very well supported and multithreading in the browser is a mess. God some bizarre stuttering on Linux one day and starting over was easier than building my own debug stack.
But for some simple pixelart or fake-retro game? Babylon/webdev is very much an option.
>>
>>740321543
it's not a competition! are you working on a similar game?

glad i checked the full catalog instead of just searching dev or de/v/ like normal lol
not doing much. got shitted on with my GPU, so RIP to my 1050 ti.
Using my super old as shit 750 ti until I figure out which new GPU to buy. there's too many nowadays and theyre all so expensive haha fml.
cant do too much right now, the 750 ti barely has Unity running :(
>>
>>740325743
I'd try snatching a 2nd hand 1060 or 1650
>>
>>740326151
thanks i'll check those out. hoping to buy new since usually whatever i get can last a while, i'm not too picky about it being the best. super glad i didnt sell the 750 after buying the 1050 a while ago, cus my pc's CPU doesnt have an iGPU so i'd be shit lucked.
>>
>>740326505
if the 2nd hand market is fucked up I'd try looking for refurbished deals too. Good luck anon!
>>
Not digging the sort of volumetric clouds yet.

>>740312509

Digging the impact frame.

>>740325743
>>740314854

What is it about?
>>
>>740332272
Player character gets a job at an environmental nonprofit (it's a scam) and plot ensues.

Like I mentioned it's in the style of katawa shoujo so the actual story greatly differs depending on which girl you choose to pursue.
>>
>>740332272
untitled goose game clone.
shaders stuff are separate but I usually will mess with them in my game projects.
>>740327542
yeah its lots of scammers lol. i think id rather get new, theres a few games i wanna play so might as well get something recent
only worry is if I get too new or good of a card, I might get lazy with shaders and stop optimizing them.
>>
>>740332272
also idk why your doing volume clouds like that...
>>
File: stars.jpg (164 KB, 1158x606)

>>740341676

I want to be able to fly through the clouds. They also obscure land and sky. I am using the sky to navigate.
>>
>>740347487
talking about the process not the intention. it looks like distance fog and then particles for the clouds. you should use raymarching and a gpu instance shader instead it'll look a lot better and be faster.
>>
>>740332272
>>740347487
No I agree with this approach, either a solid mesh or a voxel volume with some shader trickery could look great.

Already looks pretty good, trying to get thousands of billboards to give the same effect, especially for the cartoony style, would be a pain in the ass and probably not work well at all.
>>
>>740312037
FOR ANOTHER SONY COMPUTER ENTERTAINMENT AMERICA PRODUCTION
>>
>>740351503
what are you even talking about? do you not know what raymarching or gpu instancing is lmao.
>>
>>740353514
I didn't read what you said properly.

However I also did not reply to your post, so you cannot prove beyond reasonable doubt I was talking about your suggestion.
>>
And you don't have anything to say to that, do you?

Shut your trap, shader cuck, and keep your suggestions to yourself next time.
>>
>>740354982
>>740354296
you have issues anon, i was only trying to help you have better clouds and fog.
