E3 made sense for the pre-HD age when publishers' business strategy was basically just make as many fucking games as possible, they would be profitable at like ten to hundreds of thousands of copies sold, and a few of them would sell millions. There's not that many megapublishers anymore or they aren't quite as significantly active outside of Nintendo and Microsoft. Capcom is having a hell of a year but that comes on the heels of a quieter year and Monster Hunter Wilds' infamous collapse in sales. You have companies like Take Two or Activision that literally just put out one game a year.E3 as an institution, as an actual physical event held in a conference space, doesn't make sense when game output is that low. Do you want a repeat of those years when Sony was literally going to every major video game conference to show off the same games for 2-3 years straight because those games were taking forever to come out?State of Plays are infamously just advertisements for "games you can get anywhere and then here's a trailer for maybe one of Sony's first party studios might put out a game sometime this decade"Microsoft has the clout to get big publishers on board, as they have in the past with stuff like Final Fantasy, but schizophrenic platform strategy has left in it in a similar place to State of Plays.Summer Games Fest is Dorito Pope bullying smaller teams for tens of thousands to hundreds of thousands of dollars for advertising and if he doesn't get a high profile reveal to show up he'll send someone out to die as a whipping boy like Highguard.Nintendo Directs will announce games that actually come out this year but people don't actually want games they want shit to scream about on social media so Nintendo not pulling Smash Bros and Animal Crossing and Super Mario whatever out of their ass to all be released in September with zero warning, and instead devoting time to smaller franchises like Star Fox or Fire Emblem means it's a failure.
>no more E3 memes
>>740317718Damn, not even solidarity with your own brethren. You truly hate everything huh?
>>740315452E3 even at its worst, was still better than SGF even at its best. And everyone else spreading their showcases apart to avoid each other has also been a downgrade that's been a consequence following E3's death.Things are a lot worse now post-E3.

>>740315452yesbut we called it shit TOGETHER
>>740315452While I agree with the sentiments people are responding to you with, E3 was kino in many ways. I honestly don't really miss it. For the few kino moments, it was just lots and lots of fucking talking and corporate bullshit. I prefer SGF and VGAs specifically because they show world premier after world premier in rapid succession. It feels more focused on the games and showing actual new things. Seeing new things is all I have ever truly cared about in any game showcase. I don't even care about seeing new information about games I already know exist, even if I'm interested in them. When it comes to showcasing new games, Geoff has definitely provided the best shows for that.
>>740315140Well at least Nintendo will make this somewhat salva-
>>740319637Geoff is a fucking nigger that rushes trailers and actual devs speaking just for more time for his boyfriend (Kojima) to talk. Fuck that faggot.
>>740317229It always was.
>>740315140Let us remember all the wonderful things E3 gave us.
>>740319637>/v/ when the corporate industry conference is actually an industry conference and not just a trailer compilation
>>740319637I really disagree. E3 had two different components. The first was the showcases. These are still mostly a thing (although they are significantly more spread out now). The main loss was the in person discussions with developers/producers/etc. Now, yes most of the time it was just fluff, but it was also a big part of what made the event great. You'd actually get extra details and hints from the people making the game. Sometimes it'd be a demo showcase of a game. That part would last for the whole week and that is what actually made E3 what it was. Now it's just a bunch of corporations dumping ad's for there games using bullshots with minimal gameplay. It's even worse because VGA/SGF is so disjointed that you never know what will actually be shown and doesn't really appeal to anyone.
>>740315452>something that was never good while zoomers were 15 or olderFTFY>>740315871Nah, he is just a zoomer. Show some compassion.
