Am I the only one that didn't like the demo? The game just felt like an uninspired souls parry slop game. I can't believe that capcom slept on this IP for so long just for them to turn it into another souls game. Yeah sure it still has issen attacks but it's still barely distinguishable from other modern games.

The overwhelming praise behind this game seems so artificial as well but I guess capcom has established a cult of zoomers now.

Its not very good and that seems to be the general census; no the demo is not a 6 year old build and the final game is gonna be completely different. What you see is what you get so if you dont like overly animated and momentum designed parry spam slop then skip it.

Literally just felt like playing the opening section of the game with a bunch of PRESS THE ATTACK BUTTON TO ATTACK tutorials, it's very possible that the final game is way better when its introduced more mechanics and difficulty, but the demo did a terrible job of selling you on the game

You've never played the original games. They're stylish hack n slash where you collect red orbs to buy abilities and healing items (sound familiar?). 0 in common with Resident Evil, despite supposedly originating as a Resident Evil spin off (which was also the case for DMC!)

You could remap it but it felt like a standard controller just didn't have enough buttons to handle that game.

Same. It was painfully average for the grand return of big franchise after decades. If wasn't Onimusha name it would probably went unnoticed because there are lot of samurai and demons games around there. I really hate how parry again is a mandatory mechanic. It was supposed to be closer to DMC with evasion and spacing.

Onimusha was the original parryslop game, so I'm not mad they focus on parrys.
They have a good spread of parry types, though. Just in the demo you had your perfect parry, the directional parry, just evade for unarmed attacks, grab evade, and clashes.
The problem is how huge the window to perform them is. Compared to the original Onimusha where you had to be on point, you can sleep through this one.

onimusha only ever had just guards for easy issens which was entirely optional. the reboot gives you multiple parries and counters as mandatory mechanics now. this reboot is just a mishmash of every popular game from the past 15 years and it doesn't do anything particularly well.It's a damn shame the series is going to die again because capcom would rather copy the industry instead of trying something new like pragmata.

onimusha was big back then and had a lot of famous actors. it was one of the original big budget games to feature celebs play as characters ingame and from what I remember there was even supposed to be a movie to go with the first game but it never came to fruition.

I was surprised by how much I like it. You do have to like parry mechanics to enjoy it, but they're also extensions of mechanics the series already had. I also don't think the demo is indicative of how hard the finished game will be. Demos are meant to give anyone and everyone a taste of a game, and what they give you here is clearly a bunch of tutorials for the mechanics, all in a row. I don't remember the original games being notably difficult either, not including stuff like the enemy survival portal thing in the first one.
That said, I'm split on the art direction for the genma. It's creative and cool looking, but it also looks oddly cartoonish compared to how they used to look. I also hate the current objective reminder at the top of the screen. It's obnoxious and unnecessary, clearly there because it's part of the language of making games at this point which is horrible.

I hope you guys continue bitching about the demo difficulty, though, because the worst case scenario is that they actually hear you and react accordingly.

Difficulty won't change how boss battles are just boring QTE battles. If you put it on easy the button you need to press literally hovers over the bosses head like how QTEs used to be
