Abiotic Factor isn't my kind of game so I can't really judge it fairly but I was kinda annoyed how much it leaned into the Half-Life angle just for it to be yet another survival game.With how popular the indie FPS market is from classic old style boomer shooters like Dusk, to arena killfests like Doom '16/Eternal or Serious Sam, to manic twitchy adrenaline shooters like Post Void or Mullet Mad Jack, to stuff that defies concrete categorization, I'm disappointed we haven't seen anybody take a serious crack at Half-Life-likes outside of people just straight up modding Half-Life 1/2.There's stuff like Wolfenstein, sure, but that has cutscene breaks and things so it's not quite the full seamless adventure that Half-Life tries to be.Phantom Fury was the same thing, deliberately playing up its Half-Life 2 and DNF 2001 parallels, but it just ended up being an offbrand Duke Nukem Forever 2011 with even more bugs.Supplice is kinda nice but it definitely leans hard into being Marathon(as in the classic shooter series not the failed modern extraction shooter).Honestly Cultic might be the closest in spite of being more obviously RE4 and Blood-inspired.
