whats currently the best way to experience this gsme? should i just go with vanilla or are there any mods worth checking out?
Remake
>>740332698the original game plays like shit, play the remakes
The original on PS1
The original on Switch (somebody get the guys who still release games on a disc a blindfold and a cigar)
>>740332698play vanilla, no need for mods. Mods are for replays or fundamentally problematic stuff in-game and ff7 doesnt have that.
>>740332698There's a version that allows you to turn off random encounters because that shit gets tedious real quick.
>>740332698Check out 7th heaven modding there's a plethora of tutorials on how to get it going. It's the best option if you want to experience the base game but with 60fps, upscaled models, fixed audio, and a few quality of life stuff.
>>7403326981. vanilla on a crt2. vanilla with a crt filter3. vanilla with the upscaled backgrounds mod4. combination of: nino style (w chibi) with upscaled bg and SAC or New Threat mod999. non-chibi world models9999. echo s voice mod
>>740336697The PS1 version needs none of that, its the PC version that was broken that needs all of that and even after all that it will probably still look bad
Don't listen to >>740332958, >>740333080.There is no "Remake", only a sequel masquerading as a Remake, and it is absolutely assuming you are familiar with the source material with how it presents the plot and changes things. Im not even saying you should ignore them since they play completely different, but they are NOT a substitute or replacement for the original in any sense and to claim they are is just flat out lying.I remember that the OG PC version used to have sound issues that could get modded, but i don't think that one is sold anymore, Emulating the OG is valid, and honestly while basically all rereleases come with cheat menu that is no real big deal and mostly cuts off some of the tedium (Random battles, grinding materia) if it gets to much. The best way is the Original because it gives you the best impact of what it was and lets you properly understand discourse about it, even if you end up hating it.
>>740332698I've been playing the 2013 steam version with a fan translation patch, but I think it got delisted a few months back.
>>740332698Play the remake. Don't listen to bullshit >>740337723
>>740332698On PlayStation in 日本語
pc with the yamaha xg tracks, way better than psx tracks
If you just want a simple, no-nonsense plug and play version of the game, get the Switch version. But if you do play on PC, there's a mod loader called Seventh Heaven which lets you browse for and install mods for the game without having to go tracking them down yourself. Personally I'm not a fan of the graphics mods available for FFVII and I wouldn't recommend mods on a first playthrough to begin with, but it's your goddamn experience and if you'd rather play with upscaled battle backgrounds that's your choice.
>>740332698The absolute modern interpretation of the original FF7 is to look at the box art and make up the story in your head
>>740332698The original, as in the PS1 version(or emulated), not the terrible modern ports that fuck everything up.Or just play Remake, which is also good.
>>740345602I enjoyed remake but I don't think it would have hit as hard without playing the original first
>>740332698PS1. The only one that has 60fps menus.
I still have the older version of FF7 on steam, isn't that one the same as the switch version?
>>740332698the original on ps2 with component cables is the best experience and has the fastest loading albeit
>>740332698latest version on GOG
>>740332698>best way to experience this game By being 13yo in 1997. I was there 3000 years ago
>>740348996this
>>740347367Even the "updated" version of the Steam release from like 2012 or whenever is technically the oldest version you can currently buy and has a few minor issues, like character models having weird open mouths and the music not syncing up right in some scenes. I think the PS4/Xbone versions came later and cleaned up some issues, and the Switch version came even later and fixed even more issues. The differences are minor enough that you probably won't notice unless you're familiar enough with the original that you can directly compare them, but the Switch port's currently the most accurate release.
>>740332698ps1 version on crt, 20"-27" w/ s-video or 13"-20" w/compositeAlso recommend playing it on a PSP screen
>>740332698Just play the original, no mods, platform doesn't matter much.Don't play the remake(s). It's not actually a remake but a weird sequel with weird shit added to the story. They also added tons of shitty mini games that were just there for padding.
On a PS1 with a CRT and your parents fighting in the background.
Original with mods
Modded PC 2013 version.
SCPH-39001 PS2 (Fat)Sony KV-36FV310 TV
>>740332698Play the original you pussyfaggot
>>740340447OP ignore that fag. Play the original first. The Remakes are actually Sequels.
>>740332698original
>>740351858wow. All soul removed lol
>>740332698PS1 version or PC version with 7th Heaven mod.
>>740332698Either mod the PC version with the Shinra Archaeology translation or emulate the game with the romhack featuring the same translation, the Japanese script is infinitely better than any of the English localizations and said mod gives you a translation that adheres very closely to the original Japanese. Or just play the original Japanese version if you can Nipponese.
Does 7th Heaven even work with the new Steam version they recently released?
Can you play it like a turn based RPG and remove action shit?
>>740332698steam vanillathen play all 3 remakes next year
>>740332698Original version, emulated--the PC port is janky. Consider the Shinra Archaeology cut if the typos and loose/error-filled translation bother you.
>>740349752forgot to mention it has to be played on your carpeted bedroom floor for max comfy feels
play the original game on a PS1 or PS2I think you can also buy it digitally on PS3the port that came out in 2015 has cheat buttons that are too tempting not to use and they completely ruin the funor you can just emulate it
PC with minimal mods or the Switch version is fine. You could find the most accurate translations and all the bugfixes and CRT filters and so on, but it's like making a burger- you can get Prime Angus and Heirloom Vegetables and Aged Wisconson Chedder, or you can just get the cheap buns, some meat that isn't too greasy, and store brand cheese slices.Just don't miss Yuffie and Vincent.
