The auto-sort was a stupid inclusion. It removes the need to maximize space in your inventory, which was one of the things that made RE4 work so well.
>then just don't use it!
Humans are designed to take the path of least resistance. It's a game developers job to engage the player in the mechanics, not bypass them.

There's so many other legit complaints you could make for the demake and you chose "auto-sort" to complain about.

Didn't even use it because sorting is piss easy already when it's all perfect squares/rectangles, and I got my own autistic system of organizing weapons along the top, ammo on the left, healing on the right and misc along the bottom that I didn't want auto-sort to mess up.

Normies dont want to engage with that shit
Streamers dont want to spend half a stream fiddling with inventory
It might fly in a traditional RE game
But it really doesnt belong in a third person action shooter

it was a shallow system with no meaningful gameplay choice. a decent one off puzzle to fiddle with maybe but the re designers probably decided it wasn't substantial enough to constantly make the player engage with it. all it comes down to is the remaining rowxrow rectangle which is trivial to isolate.
