I like 1 but I can't believe people actually think any game in the series is better than 3. It has by far the best story and characters. 3 is the heart and soul of the entire series. Without it, the series is actually just dogshit.

In my personal opinion as someone who played the franchise for the very fist time in 2021-2022 and in release order so no nostalgia bias and no Kamiya cocksucking3>1>5>4>DmC>>>>hell of shit games>>>2 1 would be the best if it didn't have the idiotic Space Harrier section and had as much mechanical complexity as 3. Everything else was really well done. 3 is the best by virtue of being the most "complete" experience on every sense, from gameplay mechanics to bosses to improvements to everything. And it's very fun to play. 4's core gameplay felt better than 3 while feeling as challenging as 1 so it would have been the best game in the series bar none if it had been completed. Instead we got 40% of a game copypasted to make up the remaining 60%. I think it's the biggest tragedy of the series, even above the reboot. DmC was weird. It wasn't a bad game but it felt unnecessary given how 1 and 3 exist and it has a lot of elements from western action games like QTEs which clashes too much with Devil May Cry. The color coded system was dumb and ruined the fun weapon switching. 5 was a step up and a step back. It was a more refined 3 in some ways but it was too easy and the design of the levels felt simplistic; V needed a couple more summons to feel "complete". 2 was awful, awful. Boring enemies, boring bosses, boring levels. If you tried to not use the guns you found that Dante's hurtbox is so poorly coded that the sword combat against anything that isn't a basic enemy will make you trade hits. Also that fucking dogshit Stinger. What the hell man.
