And don't get me started on that god fucking awful ending cutscene. That said, the Nyarlathotep nods with the final palace and Maruki's persona were fun, but that doesn't save the dogshit character writing. Which is the main draw for Persona 3 and beyond.

It's on par with those low budget Persona knockoff games you see crop up every once in a while, and considering it's coming from Hashino's team, that makes it even worse. Metaphor would have been better as a more traditional RPG story without the half-assed social sim aspects included. Persona works because it's a full-fledged social sim RPG combo, it only works because they lean hard as fuck into the social sim.

His hackery really started to show with SotsuGou, though. That shit was so ass that I was constantly pointing at it as evidence that Silent Hill f was absolutely not shoe-in kino, and unfortunately I was right. OG Higurashi, especially the first six stories, were amazing. Last two stories were iffy, but I felt the conclusion wasn't terribly offensive. I miss that Ryukishi.
