Concept art of Balthazar, god of war from Guild Wars. On the left is the new art from Guild Wars 3, on the right is the old art from Guild Wars 1 and 2. Literally how the fuck does this happen? How are we living through a late antiquity level degradation of art without any reason? Did people just forget how to draw shit? People don't even seem to notice, they just keep consuming the new slop like nothing changed.

same problem in western animation. the older generation has plenty of teachers willing to pass on their skills, even my local community college has a former industry animator. there's just no market or demand to make use of these abilities, and any remaining illustrator worth their salt won't be doing work for shit-pay in video games now

What I loved about GW2's art was the sense of scale. Everything felt larger than life, which truly helped make the setting feel magical. Too many fantasy settings want to be realistic. They try to have a high fantasy story with low fantasy design choices, and that's too much of a disconnect for me.

I fucking knew something was wrong the second that trailer began. Its been years since I played GW2, but the Epicified/fortnite/genshin-slimed numodern art style stuck out like a sore thumb compared to where this franchise began. All of their artsts were replaced with jeets and magenta haired lesbians.
