It's unappealing, it's always poorly done, and there's no real gain from making them look like this. anytime they pull this crap it always clashes with the respective series' art style. AoT is a beautiful anime, to make it look like an unreal asset flip is an injustice and a slap in the face to its fans, Mappa, WIT, and Isayama himself.

You would think with FighterZ's popularity and Jump Force's infamy (and the ugly graphics being the first thing people point out) they'd give it a rest, but it seems like only Dragon Ball games are making a consistent progress. And it's not even like it's impossible. Gachaslop developers can make anime accurate environments, properly cel-shaded and expressive models all under a fully 3D game, as can other studios like CyberConnect
>>
I think most of the studios that regularly make anime games are just not knowledgeable on how to make good looking anime games, and they either don't care to figure it out or can't. I think it's both.

Arc System and Cyber Connect are the only two studios that can actually make these game look good as their anime and they're very open about their processes, Arc System even has a how-to-guide. They both have to go through a LOT of work and money. I'm not sure what the other studios do, but to get to their level I believe they would either need an overhaul in staff or their production process and non-Dragon Ball, non-gacha anime games don't earn enough to make it worthwhile.

I think it's true. That is why the best anime looking games are CPP funded gachas.

Don't forget Morefun Studios.

Their upcoming Hidden Ones game even shows their fully 3D games can be just as good looking and expressive.

IDK why they're so absent when it comes to anime game developers. With Bandai burning their bridges with Arc System, and CC2 being done with licensed anime games for now because they only do them to fund their original work (they got the funding), we need MFS more than ever.

It still befuddles me that One Piece is a billion dollar franchise and one of the biggest IPs in media, but all their great games were forever ago, the best modern ones are both Chinese, their only upcoming one is also Chinese, and Bandai themselves cares so little that they straight up cancelled an OP game they had in production
>>
>>740374269
Wait so they could have made a Naruto Storm style arena fighting game for One Piece but instead opted for a crappy beat em up? Why??

>Anime games
All games, really. Everyone are obsessed with realism. Facescan shit, photorealistic graphics, and the like.
Guessing because when boomer corpo sees fancy graphics, they clap and think it's what people wanted.

You mean it's not flat cell shading? It's probably because its easier to do it like this. Jump force was way different. This doesn't look too bad.

3d anime is tricky though.
3d relies on logic, 2d animation relies on aesthetics.

why is the mouth being used to rotate the model?
>>
The first attack on titan game was so much better than the second. Holy shit its not even close.
>>740373459
a lot of it has to do with manipulating surface normals before the lighting is calculated. most studios do a basic cel shader and call it a day.

it's not. the clip is showing how the mouth has to move as the face is being rotated to display the correct "anime face" look.
>>
>>740381829
I didn't see the cursor on the left when I asked the question. So they have to move the mouth as otherwise it would be invisible or displayed "incorrectly" depending on the angle?
>>
>>740382159
yes, it would look like a 3d model instead of a 2d anime screenshot.

Its because you all mocked cel shading and every other aesthetics that made games look like cartoons. Now eat your dry colored anti-soul gas games.

The weird thing is, some Jap devs have created a perfect gameplay for anime but most devs don't want to copy it. Just look at Asura's Wrath. It's literally perfect for Naruto, Bleach, One Piece and DBZ but instead they'd rather make a clunky 3D fighter or a stale RPG. Like why?
>>
>>740384970
Naruto did have some Asura's Wrath gameplay though like the QTEs and some bosses? In fact, Asura's Wrath have some inspirations from Naruto Storm 1 and 2.

anime games are low budget cash ins.
