Anyone else prefer iron sights over scopes when playing FPS?
>>
Iron sights are just scopes without a lens

You can't zoom with iron sights (in good games)
>>
doesn't mater, it's a faggy mechanic
there shouldn't be the type of RNG associated with just not holding a button
>>
>>740377697
But how are you supposed to shoot accurately without aiming properly?
>>
depends on the iron sight but yeah, usually.
>>
>>740377697
go to bed unc, your mechanic is outdated
>>
>>740376492
Depends on how far my target is. Iron sights aren't gonna get you a kill at 700m.
>>
>>740379793
>a kill at 700m
What game?
>>
I hate Russian Iron sights where its just a half circle. And I love G3 style iron sights.
>>
>>740377582
you can zoom with irons in ro2 though
>>
>>740378037
You put a sticker on the middle of your monitor and use that as a reticle
>>
Only if it's a wide lens viewmodel like your image. In Tarkov for example they're all basically unusable.
>>
>>740376492
in VR yeah iron sights are king or rather no sights what so ever
>>
>>740376492
Me too anon
unless I'm playing as a markman or LMG or something where the role really demands their use I always go for irons
I used to be an utter slave to using magnifiers in Insurgency Sandstorm but I always thought all the scopes and sights looked terrible on a lot of the guns, especially the older non-tacticool ones-- I forced myself to use irons for a bit and now that I'm used to them, I can't go back
All that extra supply from no attachments means I bring three frags and seven mags with me its fucking awesome
>>
>>740379926
I've done that in ArmA (don't remember which one) and Tarkov, was easier in ArmA. Partially because I was a 2 man team with a guy that did rangefinding and the wind math.
>>
>>740377697
You're right, which is why in most games, there's additional mechanics that go into ADS that makes aiming more of a chosen state, and hence why there's even games where there's little to no inaccuracy to not using ADS but you're still encouraged to use it and make that choice anyways

>>
>>740377697
tell us your revolutionary idea for reducing hit rates at range without making it feel like absolute dog shit to the player
note that pure recoil feels like absolute dog shit to the player because of how much it disjoints your point of aim from your mouse movements
>>
>>740380268
What are you talking about? Reflex sights are an absolute must for me in VR shooters. VR makes you realize how awful most iron sights are, and the low resolution means it's impossible to use aperture sights as they're intended.
>>
>>740382483
Shmovement and projectile weapons.
Modern shooters are slop that relies on this shit, because analog sticks can't track spontaneously moving targets, so everyone moves utterly predictably and the game is usually balanced around the player either moving or shooting, but not both at the same time, hence the use of ADS and a sprint button.

RO2 had zoom for a reason retard.
The human eye can see in much greater resolution than the average PC monitor.
Games where snipers are impossible to spot are always dogshit.

In real life the sight picture of iron sights is better than the tiny shit games do like in OP pic. They should let you zoom in a bit.

yes
i like games like payday 2 that even let you remove the scope from snipers

>>
>>740389793
They should make the gun model surrounding the sight a little transparent. It's way, way easier to shoot with iron sights in real life thanks to the incredible evolutionary trait we humans possess of having two eyes.

>>

>>740393118
Yes but in games, it zooms in and lowers your sensitivity to make aiming easier.

lol

I'm sure health/shield regen exists because people heal too.
>>
>>740392645
Milsim autism doesn't generally infest other games though.
It may have ended up in some PC games as a niche, but it took off for analog sticks, because it allowed the games to split up moving and looking around into two separate activities that the player would never have to mix together.
Analog sticks just don't have anywhere near the fidelity required to combine the kind of speed you'd need to actually look around with the accuracy needed to look at a specific thing.

>>
>>740392354
meanwhile in reality and not your schizo delusions all the first games to have it were PC shooters
>>
>>740379979
HK sights are peak
Personally I've grown to dislike the US style irons in VR where the hole is at the rear sight instead of it being open, the SCAR is especially atrocious to use
>>
>>740376492
I like those fat scopes that take like 1.8 seconds to zoom into before you can fire. I think CoD MW2 had a Thermal Scope that took an entire second to zoom in and EVERYTIME I got the Game Winning Kill people would groan and insult me for using the slow scope while I top scored the game. Made me laugh everytime.
>>
reminder that counterstrike functionally has ads.

ads in counterstrike
you hold shift, you walk slower, your weapon conceals more of the screen, your aim gets better

ads in other games
you hold right mouse button, you walk slower, your weapon conceals more of the screen, your aim gets better
>>
>>740377582
iron sights that don't zoom are dogshit
>>
Iron sights are terrible for visibility. In Apex there's meta with cosmetics because some skins have less visible ironsights than others.
>>
>>740397258
Well, you can't really "zoom in" with iron sights. Might as well just use scopes.

I hate reflex sights as they make every gun look the same. Part of the charm is lost when you put the exact sight on every single weapon type.

trick is really to remove the crosshairs so you MUST aim down the sights to hit anything at range. although, that wouldn't really work in a faster FPS. I remember liking it in brothers in arms because it was more about navigating your unit around.
>>
>>740399024
fucking tribes
>>
>>740376492
Yeah, unless devs fuck up and they're off the center.
>>
>>740395383
Military sim implementation is also very different. Let's be real, aiming down any sights in modern FPS is generally just short hand for aim assist.
>>
>>740399109
>it was more about navigating your unit around
more like tardwrangling your unit around, they literally stand in the open and refuse to open fire most of the time unless you order them to do so
>>
>>740399324
>aiming down any sights in modern FPS is generally just short hand for aim assist.
I would have agreed for you if there wasn't any
>rotational aim assist
>crosshair magnetism/slowdown
>recoil reduction
>sometimes downright recoil removal
>>
>>740403727
I think that's what he was saying, ADS in modern fps is literally just activating all that bullshit for controller shitters.
>>
>>740392703
>can't even see a semi transparent nose in first person
unrealistic garbage
>>
>>740376492
idk just give me a white dot in the center of the screen
>>
>>740405287
It's always active. Using your sights just extends its range.
>>
>>740387723
I actually hate this line of reasoning. Killing from any range is 10x easier in even hardcore milsims than real life. Way easier to see people, easier to aim, easier to pull trigger properly.

RO1 was better for not having zoom
>>
>>740405769
if you're playing against humans maybe sure, bots in milsims cheat like hell and you know its bad if you've ever played any arma campaign shit
>>
>>740405287
>literally just activating
that's where you're wrong, all that shit is already activated by default. ADS is simply a retard proof button for aimbot. take a look at this timeless classic case study:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gtLETaKsLwY
>>
>>740376492
I remember I played a ton of Siege with my friends and never using anything but Iron Sights, my K/D was something awful like 1/6.
One of my friends caught me equipping iron sights and he thought I was mental.
I started using scopes and immediately went into positive k/d

Basically iron sights is an unnecessary handicap if you're playing against people using scopes.
In single player games it's fine but otherwise stick with a scope because you will get crushed.
>>
>>740376492
yes, scopes block too much peripheral vision.
>>
>>740377582
>red orchestra 2
>left shift = zoom
Kill yourself you disingenuous retard
>>
>>740376492
Why are you eating the butt stock on that gun in the bottom screenshot?
>>
>>740405862
I know its not as strong when you don't ads but ads is like actual nonsense and the fact that I am forced to play against these legal aimbotting subhumans is a human rights violation
>>
>>740387015
Bottom is the clearest
>>
>>740376492
Really dumb question but when aiming with the iron thingie, is my shot supposed to hit just above where the line ends or right over it, covered by the end of the line? I have never been able to tell.

The M1 Garand irl has the best iron sights I've ever used, but the way they're depicted in vidya feels kinda cheaty.
I don't know exactly why it works irl, but despite how tiny the peephole looks on camera it doesn't behave that way when you're actually looking through it. It's quite easy to see through it and maintain peripheral vision; the disc edges sort of blur out of existence so you can still see quite a bit, but the tiny peephole ensures that the front post is only visible when you have it aligned properly.
Vidya always seems to cheat this effect by just modelling a huge rear sight peephole that makes it look like it would bend/deform the second you dropped it. That's always bugged me.
>>
>>740376492
>ADS slop
Sorry I play good games.
>>
>>740377582
im gonna say it ro2 is the only game that ever got bolt actions right
