Because overall, the game is pretty bad. Even the good parts of the game (there are some) really don't make up for how awful the rest is, and how bad the whole package ends up as a result.
I enjoyed it on release solely because I was extremely sleep-deprived at the time and my cognitive abilities had dulled just enough to find the dodge-shoot-dodge-shoot-dodge-shoot combat flow entertaining, as well as to not put any actual thought toward the events of the plot going on.

I played other M back in the day ironically and actually enjoyed it. I was playing a lot of supposedly bad games back then like kane and Lynch. But I kind of liked other m and thought it got unfairly made fun of. I enjoyed it way more than any ass creed game. If it didn't have the metroid name and was a new Sony IP or something it'd have 5 sequels by now and be a staple like zero dawn horizon
Because kids who grew up with Prime as their first FPS were upset that it wasn't Prime. Was it a good game? No. Was it a better take on 3D Metroid than Prime? Yes.
