I was surprised to see Gothic 1 Remake is only 33 GB, but I remembered hearing the whole appeal of those games is they have a small but dense open world instead of a sprawling empty one that inflates file size and playtime. So with that in mind I guess it makes sense. However I also saw someone claiming that UE5 has advanced compression technology that wasn't previously available, allowing them to reduce filesize while keeping graphical fidelity. Is that true? Are we finally out of the era of 100 GB games, or is that a load of shit and this game is just an exception?
Wubba dubba dub is that true?
>>740379992Just don't be retarded with your assets and the game can be quite small.
>>740381450What's an example of a game being retarded with the assets?
>>740381885Multiple languages, uncompressed textures, repeated assets to load faster from HDDs when no one use these anymore...

>>740382010Oh yeah, I heard of Helldivers and ARK doing that last one, but I feel like it's less common compared to uncompressed textures. Problem is if you compress the textures too much the game will look like dogshit so if UE5 enables them to compress textures while still looking good that is a huge advancement for video game tech. As for multiple languages, a lot of games I've played let you install the languages separately or delete the extra languages from the game files without issue.
>>740379992>Are we finally out of the era of 100 GB games,Fuck no. Especially on PC. Only the Switch gets lower sizes.
