Humanity discovered pre-rendered sprites in the early 90s, which everybody knows is the absolute peak of video-game aesthetics. But why has it been largely abandoned these days? Literally everyone agrees that a high-budget high-effort title using this technique would easily become the most beautiful game ever made.
>>740393418you retards buy slop, you retards get slop. that's it. buy good games and good things will start happening to the industry
>>740393418Good lighting in combination with a dynamic camera is not possible with prerendered graphics. Also the production pipeline is just very different with prerendered graphics and it's more difficult to update existing assets.
>>740393534>buy good games and good things will start happening to the industrymy 40-70 dollar purchase wont change anything in a million years though.
>>740393597>retarded doomer child-raping faggot defeatist retardspeakkill yourself today.
>>740393579>Good lighting in combination with a dynamic camera is not possible with prerendered graphics.First of all, no great art in the history of mankind has ever had a dynamic camera. And good lighting is very much possible.
>>740393662you have no idea what you are talking about
>>740393534My bad, I should've bought two copies of Factorio to counteract the 50 million retards buying "sports game (current year)". If only I spent those 20 more bucks on Factorio, industry would've realized that this one time purchase is the real money maker, not the quadrillion dollars they earn from fifa packs and other life service garbage per month
>>740393418that weld animation is cool but what is it even doing
>>740393418Because we have the computing power to do it in real-time. Why pre-rendered when you can just use those assets themselves? Problem, however, is what we gained in technology we lost in artistry.
>>740393846If you look closely the rocket body is made up of multiple smaller cylindrical parts attached together.
Diablo 2 is probably the most advanced pre-rendered sprite game ever made and that was over 25 years ago. It was made using layers upon layers of sprites taken from thousands upon thousands of sheets containing single body parts. You'd have the...>specific character>specific orientation>specific frame of animation>specific hand holding the specific weapon or shield>specific body type depending on what armor is being used>specific head depending on what helmet is being used>all drawn in a specific order based on the characters orientation so that they overlap correctly>repeat this for countless of characters, items and monstersand as a result for all the hard work, the game looks timeless. if only they still access to high res scans of the 3d models... i dont think the indians making games today would have the ambitions to make something like this.
>>740394104is it though?
>>740393418because ps2 graphics
>>740393418It's not abandonedhttps://youtu.be/D0d2gC0zzkUAlso, why is it always the same shitty games that get brought up? It's the same goyslop in every single thread, no one ever talks about games with actually good 3d rendered sprite work, it's always some casual dadgamer slavware you'd see shilled on rpg codex
>>740393846I never noticed it before, but the rocket silo acts as a rocket part factory. It represents that process.
>>740393846rule of cool
Because big devs largery can't into aesthetic, and small devs lack competence and resources. Some AAA title absolutely could have good looking style with 3D if they actually cared.
>>740393418consistently, year after year gamers have demonstrated that they will rather buy garbage with realistic 3d graphics than a good game with simple 3d/2d one
>>740393846Making fuel tanks that will be cut into separate columns and processed underground
>>740395076throughout history slop has always been more popular than great art
>>740395159>t. pig
>>740395076https://youtu.be/ak52BLOFyuo???????
>>740394916people also forget those great looking pixel games from decades past were made by professionals on top of their game. not indies choosing 8-bit graphics because it's what they can get away with.
