While I didn't hate 5 and pretty much exclusively played it for Horde and got a good amount of playtime out of it the campaign was absolute trash and I never even finished it once. I’m kind of salty it won’t be on PS5 I guess I will get a Series X at some point since I have a physical Xbox one library anyway. While there’s a lot to like, I have some very serious concerns.First and foremost. Why the hell does everyone look like a DYEL? The characters are huge muscly men because it looked good and it was sick. If they aren’t built like bodybuilders, they end up looking like shit wearing such huge bulky armour and using huge guns. I don’t understand how you can have hundreds of artists employed, and not one of them stopped to point out this fact.In addition to their twig bodies, this game seems more hyper realistic than the other games. All the faces look like they were face scanned and not handmodelled. I have no problems with mocap, but I despise face scanning. It leads to soulless looking characters. Look at how much more distinct Marcus and the gang look in ultimate edition, where mocap was used but the faces were all handmodelled. I don’t see Marcus and Dom in this game. I see two actors dressed like Marcus and Dom.The third problem, and this is a really big one, is that the two new characters alongside Marcus and Dom look so god damn ugly. Even putting the ugliness aside, their designs are so bland. Nothing makes them stand out. Imagine playing the game with your boys and being the two sorry sacks who have to play these two instead of Marcus and Dom. It’s so sad how throughout all of the gears of war games, we’ve only ever have one act where we actually got to play as delta squad together, before Dom died and having at least one woman on every future team became mandatory. It just sucks man. If we can’t have Cole and Baird, at least let us play Tai and Carmine or Hoffman. Or at least make the new characters look cool and distinct.Lastly, the removal of the roadie run is soulless. I don’t see why it needed to go. It was unique to gears.
