I'm about to beat the main quest for the first time then I want to install TR and maybe some good mods. I definitely want a mod to organize/sort your spell list.

A Morrowind/Oblivion/Skyrim-like?
Because while Bethesda may be lazy hacks, this style of games genuinely requires a shittonne of handcrafted content and has lots of moving elements that constantly cause all sorts of problems (I mean both actual objects, as well as quests, scripts, NPCs, heavily interactable physics engine etc.)

I don't think it's particularly hard, but the dev team is largely small and amateur I think. Even leFay IIRC wasn't really working in gamedev since leaving Bethesda until he decided to join this project

The verticality in Skyrim is crazy. I'm waiting until the next release to make a character and fully explore it, but everything I see and the little I've played of it is so promising.
Really one of my favorite things about PTR and TR is that when you go to a different area, you can really tell you're in a whole new geographic location with a different climate and culture and infrastructure. It really feels like you're thousands of miles away from Vvardenfell when you step into Anvil.

Is doing a character who is part of house Redoran, the Tribunal Temple, and does the main quest trying to do too much for one single playthrough? My idea for the Nerevarine is a dunmer, born in Cyrodiil, who always wanted to return to his family's homeland of Morrowind. Growing up learning about the Tribunal and serving the Temple, only to learn the truth about them and turn against them, seems like a really interesting character arc. I recently decided to throw Redoran in there too because Nerevar himself was part of a Great House and I think being Hortator would work out best if they were already politically involved. Redoran is also very honorbound and values family and kinship. I think it would be a great fit overall, but I worry that balancing all three of those questlines would really fuck with time management and pacing (although the Temple one would cut off after becoming Nerevarine, I think)

Started a playthrough, been around 6-7 years since I've played it last. This time no mods besides resolution and only the bug fixes in the code patch. I had forgotten how soothing some of the atmosphere was sometimes, especially in towns with the Dunmers' hoarse voice greeting you (or insulting you) and just the water sloshing around.
I had forgotten that the start is a bit rough if you don't play to your strengths, thankfully this was very easily fixed by remaking a character with one decent weapon skill and using that. I think Morrowind has the best zero to hero progression out of the 3 modern TES but for your non specialized combat skills finding a trainer first is a must, I assume combat filtering people probably comes from that (and the fact that running uses fatigue so people start fights with 0 stam).
I would also like to thank the Dark Brotherhood goon spawning while resting that funded the beginning of my adventure with some armor, ingredients and a mortar+pestle.

I'm excited to replay this again in some years with Tamriel Rebuilt and all the bells and whistles but for now I'm just enjoying rediscovering the game.

It's from a time where cRPGs where ubiquitous compared to today (even if that changed), so putting some thought into your starting skills was normal. You can softlock yourself in FO1 if you make a retarded build from the start.
Also if you're really new to the game, just going to buy some gear in the shop already improves things tenfold. All my friends whom I've watched play it from the first time just leave town without gearing up because you can perfectly do that in Oblivion/Skyrim.

Despite being really small, Solstheim feels much more detailed and memorable than any TR expansion. Only Skyrim and Cyrodiil expansions managed to capture that little but unique Solstheim feel.

I don't think so. Look at Kingdom Cum, it's one of the few recent games to do the TES formula and it garnered a big following.
I think more than anything you need a setting that feels "home-y" AND mechanics that promote some kind of resourcefulness in your adventure like the ability to steal anything not nailed to the floor in TES game or playing around NPC schedules.

I also haven't started Tamriel Rebuilt, I waiting a few years still.
One thing I'm wondering about though is how they handle progression with the character? One of the best things about TES for me is slowly levelling up skills and the satisfaction of becoming a demigod. By the time you're done with the normal game you'll already have reached very high levels in most skills so you won't have that to look forward to while visiting the rest of Morrowind.
Does TR also expands skills/slows down progression or does it leave it as is?

Leaves it as-is, TR is really designed to be played alongside the main game as there's a nice spread of content for every stage of progression. Ideally, you'll only do a few guild questlines per character, TR has several hundred hours of content easily and the best way to experience it is with different characters doing different things.

I am a boomer who has played Morrowind since 2002 and there is still so much that I havent done in Vvardenfell. And I could have hours and hours of fun replaying the stuff I already did do.

Tamriel rebuilt seems like so much. When I was a kid and I saw the website I couldnt wait until it was out and they had built up more parts of the map and now that they have made big progress I dont have the same appetite for it. But I think im going to give it another go. Further I got was exploring a couple of the towns and being impressed with what they had done but didnt do any quests.

Oldwind modding is dead too though, 98% of mods on the nexus are openmw stuff now. Oblivion doesn’t have the advantage that OpenMW does but the modding scene is at least picking up again now but again, no equivalent to OpenMW of Skyrim's SE 64Bit engine and recency.

Larger open spaces are seen as vanilla style, which has been in vogue since 2022. Lots of devs complain about Old Ebonheart being too compact. Performance wise it does help to have things spread out so each cell has fewer objects.

A lot of Reachmen exist in civilised society in Markarth and around the reach owning land and mines etc. Was just Ulfrics handling of the Markarth incident and Mananach leading his rebellion that stirred things up between the unga bunga tribes still living in the hills and the Nords
