>hype IMMEDIATELY deflated by Sega confirming the game is using AI slop for assets
>only discussions online are now just clowning on Sega for using AI

How hard is this game going to flop? This is killing the series for another 20 years isn't it.

It would have flopped regardless. You can't make a full game based on a minutes-long arcade machine and still charge full price anymore. This should have been bundled with one or two other classic Sega games.

Normal people don't care about Crazy Taxi in general. This sort of lower-budget AA release is targeting enthusiasts who have been around in the gaming space long enough to still give a shit about a simplistic arcade game they played on the Dreamcast or Xbox 20+ years ago. You lose that demographic and who the fuck is going to buy it?

A new Crazy Taxi game in 2026 was already fighting an uphill battle to be successful and now this just complicates things so much more. Using AI loses sales (how many exactly is yet to be seen) and gains zero.
>>
>>740545680
Without AI assets the artstyle is pretty sloppy, if this was a game that tried to portrait an homenage of the old crazy taxi they would use orange skies for late afternoon enviroments.

>At SEGA Corporation, generative AI is available as an optional support tool for developers, enabling our teams to focus more on creative tasks and ultimately focus on what matters most: delivering better games to our consumers.
>Generative AI was used to support our teams during the development of background assets for ”Crazy Taxi: World Tour”. Assets generated were still subject to review by the development team.
>No AI was used in reference to the performers in the game.

Is this what we're seething about?
Who gives a shit
>>
>>740546023
>Remember that one golf game that got a remaster/port last year from sony? You likely don’t because it pulled the same shit and everyone ignored it
That one was actually a false alarm. The devs used Speedtree (which has been around for years and isn't generative AI) and for some unknown reason declared it as AI usage on the Steam page. But it's a good example of how even an incorrect admission of "AI use" can fuck the hype cycle of a niche game.

They confirmed they used it for actual in-game assets which is one of the most offensive usages of AI they could've admitted to. Only thing worse would be if they had full-on AI voice acting and AI music etc.

If it had just been AI vibe code I think people would've dismissed it and said "who cares" but using it for actual visual components of the game is obviously gonna make people mad.
>>
>>740548325
Well that's disappointing to hear.
>>
>>740548325

The AI statement on the steam page words it like they used it for code, which I guess that much is inevitable now. Using it for the "creative" stuff they claim is disappointing
>>
>>740548828
It just feels bizarre coming from Sega who are normally so engaged with artist communities and love promoting fan creations.

I know, i know, "you shouldn't trust corporations" and all, but surely they have to have known this would go down terribly with their community? And this isn't an Arc Raiders situation where the game is big enough and normie-friendly enough they can bank on just getting sales from dudebros who don't give a shit.

I mean if they really did just use AI for irrelevant stuff like grass that nobody would notice, then there was absolutely no need to disclaim it. It would be needless reputational damage for something that nobody would've clocked as AI anyway.

Them disclosing it in this manner makes it seem like there's something in the game that is such blatant AI slop that they know there's no way they'd have gotten away with it.

You're comparing one of the biggest most profitable IPs in the world (Harry Potter) to a niche arcade game from 25+ years ago. Crazy Taxi needed all the help it could get. Any controversy at all just makes the job of Sega making this game a success so much harder.

Average Onions enjoyer historical analysis:
>People complained about the printing press and photography, therefore every criticism of AI is wrong
By that logic every new technology is good by definition because somebody always complains. That's not an argument, that's a religion. The printing press massively expanded access to books. Photography let people capture reality in ways painting couldn't. AI's killer app so far is generating 500 anime girls per minute and flooding search results with slop. History doesn't repeat because you found one Wojak meme and two links, genius.

It isn't being rejected though. Its becoming accepted more and more every day. Normal consumers have never cared so long as things look/sound good. They didnt care about algorithms replacing any other aspect of their lives, they wont care about the art either. Artists are simply uniquely positioned to be heard when they speak up about it. They are not more or less special then anyone automated away before or after it happens to them.

That's literal fact. There is a non-zero number of people who would've bought this game and are now not buying it because of AI usage.

Meanwhile, there is literally nobody who sat there and saw the AI disclaimer and said "Well I wasn't gonna buy a Crazy Taxi game, but now I know it's AI I'm all-in!"

Factually it is better, even if they did use AI, to simply not disclose it because likely no one would've noticed anyway and they would end up selling more copies.

I actually do agree with this image, but I promise you, i would like to THROTTLE the life out of the beady little eyes of everyone that posts it without context.

It's not "Why don't we just use AI?" it's "What are we using AI for, and is it a good use of the technology? If the answer to both is a good answer, then "why aren't we using AI?"

AI is at it's best when it's used to reduce tedium. It is at it's worst when it's used as a substitute for creativity. These are the basics of "Are we using AI correctly?" that nobody wants to truly follow, because genuinely talented creatives are actually a lot rarer than the vast majority of """""creatives""""" would ever have you believe, but the instances where they do enter a leadership position ARE worth it over AI generated content, but at the same time...AI generated content >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Danger hair spitball ideas for video games that have become actual video games, and the latter needs to be stomped out with extreme prejudice and aggression. There are specific lives, and some no so specific that deserved to be irreversibly ruined for the damage they have done to video games and the culture surrounding them, and they are the biggest voices against AI because it threatens their hegemony over the market, which they do not deserve.

>>
>>740549790
>snake oil
The term "snake oil" comes from selling of potions that didn't work. In the case of AI generated images for the Crab shack in the background of Crazy Taxi that is false. It does work to generate that image, which is why they will use it. Having an opinion one way or the other about this is absurd and makes everyone around you aware that you're a complete moron.
>>
>another CHANGE IS LE BAD thread
>>
Let me offer you the actual historical perspective.

In the 2000s, when the internet was getting big, art galleries were having a meltdown. They would create websites advertising themselves and their works, listing pieces for sale in the hopes that people would walk in to buy them or order prints. What happened instead was that people would download the images from their website and print 5,000 copies in Mexico to sell for $200. That's why all galleries started using shitty low-resolution JPGs and watermarking everything.

AI is almost like that. But AI is different in that it is generating replacement art: something that is almost, but never quite, like what someone is selling. So the makers of art and their middlemen are understandably upset. Even if you pass laws saying AI has no copyright and everyone can rip it off, guess what? Everyone will rip everyone off and flood the market of T-Shirt designs, texture assets, internet music streaming, etc. because even if they don't own the copyright they can still make $5 profit doing almost no work.

AI not only lowers the barriers to creation, it lowers the value of all work. You already see it with AAA games: who pays full-price except retards? Everyone waits for the 75% off Steam Sale.

He's right though. Advances in factory automation took jobs and the printing press allowed for unparalleled quantities of slop to be printed into the world today. The only 2 significant things that can be attributed to AI are the environmental impacts of AI and the unparalleled quantities of slop that is filling the internet, books and scientific journals. AI isn't even significant enough to attribute the mass-layoffs to it. The economy is a more significant contributor to those layoffs.

Whether it will flop depends entirely on the execution of the final product, but the community backlash over Sega’s use of generative AI is undeniably severe. The immediate online reaction to the disclosure on the game's Steam page has shifted focus from excitement to intense skepticism. Sega debuted a trailer for the highly anticipated reboot. However, the hype was immediately dampened when the Steam listing and subsequent official PR statements confirmed the use of generative AI. Sega clarified that generative AI was used strictly as an optional support tool to create background assets, and that all generated content is subject to developer review. They explicitly noted that no AI was used for performers (voice actors or musicians). Outraged fans and critics on platforms like Reddit's r/Games and Kotaku have heavily criticized the studio. The core of the anger stems from the perception that a massive publisher is cutting creative corners on a beloved, historically high-energy franchise built on raw, punk-rock attitude. It is too early to declare the game dead, as it is slated for a 2027 release on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, PC, and Nintendo Switch 2. The outcome generally leans toward two possibilities, Many gamers note that if the AI-generated elements are strictly limited to background fillers (like distant building textures or generic background objects) and the core gameplay loop remains incredibly fun, fast-paced, and features a licensed soundtrack (e.g., The Offspring), the casual player base won't care. Gamers have grown highly sensitive to AI elements. If the final game features uncanny, plastic-looking textures, or hallucinated background graphics, it will be relentlessly meme'd. Sega's previous attempt to use AI in Sega Football Club Champions resulted in "Mostly Negative" reviews on Steam, giving fans a legitimate reason to worry. Is the Franchise Dead for Another 20 Years? Not necessarily, but Sega is taking a massive gamble.

the printing press, radio, television and internet did not act as a stand in for human creativity. it was merely a medium, all the artistry was still done by humans. AI is the first time where humans have been entirely replaced in the equation.

its amazing how you can call out any other form of pollution but the moment you insinuate anything about the "climate" people tell you to stop worrying about it, its not real etc.. it is already known and documented that exxon themselves accurately predicted how much their own product would raise global temperatures, and deliberately covered it up and lied to the public. people might not care now but they will when its too late, and thats completely by design, why do you think the rich are buying doomsday bunkers and planning to build colonies on the moon/mars?
as for the game, i already got an off feeling about them when they were revealed. i just wont be buying crazy taxi or JSR, simple as. SEGA is basically just a nostalgia gimmick company at this point so its no wonder they would take the cheapest route towards making garbage imitation of actual good games made by real creatives during their golden age.

A human being is not the same as software, Jesus fucking CHRIST. An LLM is objectively not sentient, nor will it ever BE sentient, and nothing about how a human brain functions is even remotely comparable.

An LLM isn't "taking inspiration" from anything, it's flat out stealing shit wholesale. It's never making anything "new", you're just an idiot unaware of what exactly it's ripping off.

AI is like plastic. It's easy, but wasteful when scaled, e.g. for single use packaging or slop respectively. Both are best utilized for long-term usage, and both can achieve things other techniques can't, but weirdly enough, both have those uses stigmatized as cheap and restricted, while straight trash generation remains untouched. Weird.
>>
>>740569027
The point is that AI is not *for* plagiarizing, it is just capable of it. So it makes no sense to be mad at AI itself instead of the people using it for such purposes, just as you are not mad at all artists if some of them plagiarize their works (I assume).

No one brought up sentience but you. LLMs are a neural network that are capable of creating things based on what is in their dataset. The human mind is a more complex neural network that is capable of creating things based on the collective experiences of the individual, which is the biological equivalent of that individuals "dataset".

And if you think that humans can conjure things that they have never experienced before from the ether, I dare you to come up with a completely original thought right now.

It looks like they revamped it into a regular Crazy Taxi sequel (steam page mentions a story mode too, so that might be where the focus shifted to) that has an online multiplayer component. So there will more than likely still be a battle royal mode, but it might not be the main focus anymore and any in-game Fortnite shop bullshit is gone.

I think the JSR reboot was supposed to be some live service shit too until Hyneas died for Sega's sins and gave them a wake up call that nobody wants shit like that.

You will never convince me that 'Commercial Generative AI' was a worth while addition to the internet.
Any discussion always feels like one side is intentionally being disingenuous.
My job is coding and I draw in free time. I am sick of having to clean up co-workers sloppy grok-assisted code and having to explain to mongoloids that people draw to have fun and that AI doesn't aid me in drawing.

The internet is flooded with low quality material now.
The only real solution is to retreat and make your own circles of curated content which takes time, effort and forces me to dive into the cesspool in order to save the quality works from the endless quagmire of slop.

You should look down on all AI users. Unless your AI is actively saving lives or doing grunt work which lets you focus on more important work which benefits yourself you should laugh at anyone who tries to 'bat' for it.

Skipping the menial labor that takes time away from human creativity is good.
The printing press replaced monks tediously copying the same books over and over, making it possible for more people to read and write.
The steam engine replaced countless people's manual labor and created such economic prosperity that wealth began to accumulate among non-hereditary classes for the first time in history.
Robots have made factory work much faster and much safer. Working in a factory doesn't mean breaking your body anymore.

AI doesn't offer anything like that. It replaces the aspirational human endeavors of creativity (poorly) and all we get for it is an Internet spammed with bots, all trying to skim off the top of revenue sharing systems and propagandists flooding the world with fake images and video to suit their own ends.

Someone take this retards ipad away from him. Your whataboutism are fucking embarrassing.
Early internet shit took time and effort to create and upload, there was alot of shit but it was easy to find good shit due to the quantity of content being tied to the smaller userbase.

What? I have never made a mention about money. Value, in the case of entertainment products, is how entertaining they are. This is a subjective evaluation, of course, as what someone finds entertaining, someone else could find to be abhorrent.

But the vast majority of works are and have always been abysmal and considered universally unpalatable, which is why the ones that actually have some substance to them are remembered. The time and effort to create something does not directly translate into quality, there has to be some know-how involved. And that know-how can elevate a work above its mediocre contemporaries no matter the tool used to create it.
