I want more of them. with big titty furry women.
>>740545759Give me 1 reason to not make a vania. That’s free Silksong dollars on the table.
>>740545759YOU WILL BUY ALL OF THEM AND YOU WILL BE HAPPY

>>740545759>be indie dev>metroidvania>slash and effects are cyan colored>blood is magenta colored
>Teslagrad>Unepic>Apotheon>La-Mulana
>>740545759Thanks OP, just wishlisted all of them.
>>740546147me too.
>>740545759I'm tired of OPs who think that individuality means more than making a living
>>740545759...I'm... tired of the survivorslop...
>>740546147I'm trying but I'm incompetent
that's cool, I'm not though :)
>>740545759I will take 10 more of them over ONE MORE OPENWORLD GAME *ANY* DAY.
>>740549293I would love an open-world game with the design sensibilities of a metroidvania, so few of them exist
White nigga with bad breath slop
What metroidvanias would you guys recommend? I played some Castlevania and Metroid stuff. I also played Hollow Knight. Don't know much about the genre, what other games are considered good and worth playing?
>>740551103Touhou Luna Nights. Very short and to the point.
>>740545759ok
I'm glad they've started calling it soulsvania now because none of them resemble Metroid.
>>740551103Axiom Verge
>>740551103Rabi Ribi
>>740550363Metroidvania are just a in-between from open world design and linear design.>linearone path, all encounters are carefully planned, progression is tight, almost zero freedom.>metroidvaniaa couple of paths (when its well made), encounters dont account for all scenarios but some, progression is somewhat looser, some freedom.>open worldINFINITE PATHS, encounters literally cant account for the infinite possible ways to tackle them, progression is whatever you fucking want, almost full freedom. You cant have "open-world game with the design sensibilities of a metroidvania" because while not opposites, they are on different points of the level design spectrum.
>>740548970Grind fundies for 2 years and study peak artists
>>740546147Holy based
>>740551810Fine, I want more 3D Metroidvanias, happy now?
>>740551873Eh... I'm already commissioning artists for designs, it's the coding that's the problem
its not even just indies. every 2d game ever mus be a metroidvania nowprince of persia?metroidvanianinja gaiden?metroidvaniastrider,?metroidvaniashinobi?metroidvaniakunio kun?metroidvaniacalifornian devs cant hekp themselves
>>740545759Is someone in your house forcing you to play those? You can blink twice if it's not safe to speak where you are.
>>740551103Rabi RibiSilksongPrince of Persia: The Lost CrownBoth Ender Lilies
>>740551103Rabi RibiEnvironmental Station AlphaZexion
>>740554168The reason is because metroidvanias are the only viable 2D game genre outside of incremental survivor games.Quick, what's the last 2D traditional platformer game that got >1000 reviews this year on Steam? How about shump? Puzzle?
>>740545759>We need our strongest action sidescroller to fight the weakest vaniaslop
>>740545759Which genre hasn't been raped by indie spam
>>740551103Afterimage.
>>740545759I have one in mind
>>740551103Lamulana is a nice casual entry point to the genre. Its on the easy side but still enjoyable
>they turned fucking Hungry Knight into a metroidvaniaIs nothing sacred anymore?
>>740551103i really liked astalon, dont see it get mentioned often. bunny must die is also fun if you dont mind a lower production value doujin game
>>740554168it's kinda the ultimate evolution of 2D games that have elements from every genre because every game must be an amalgamation of every mechanic nowlike how every 3D game is an open world game with stealth, RPG and crafting mechanics
Why is /v/ being... nice to the vanias?
>>740558625Metriodvanias are gameplay first so you cant shitpost about them as much as a vn or triple a slop cinematic game
Why are they never 3D
>>740558495I had never heard of this Astalon game until you mentioned it, I just wishlisted it, thank youEver heard of UnEpic? I like the gameplay, I just wish the dialogue wasn't so cringe
>>740545759THEN DON'T PLAY THEM FAGGOT!!! JUST KYS!!!
>countless indie -vanias, mostly HK-likes, many of which are also souls-likes>maaaybe one or two indie metroid-likeswhy is this the case?
>>740559143because there's zero creativity or artistic goal behind these games, they just copy whatever is popular, and HK was very popular
>>740559143Gamedevs are subservient to the jewtubers they send emails to and all of those channels, revolve around Hollow Knight.
>>740558686When it's 3D people either call it a 3D platformer/collectathon or a soulslike
>>740559143making a coherent metroid-like is much more difficult than making a castlevania-like
i prefer calling them search action games
>>740545759But you don't play themYou see them at events and them forget about 99% of themBecause Steam also buries most of these and 2D platformers in general in a dark pit of irrelevance while you don't really care about the genreSo stop pretending it bothers you
>>740555382>ZexionThis was great, it felt a lot like Metroid in places, but not as a clone, and it avoided the typical upgrade progression these games all have.It was also really sold the feeling of being a lone merc caught in the middle of a larger war, the mad dash for the namesake relic. The boss fights where you either fight multiple factions or interrupt somebody else's duel were great, those and the ones where Zexion power keeps mutating and transferring to nearby bodies.
>>740545759it's not like you were gonna play any of them in the first placejust because you played babby's first metroidvania be it hollow knight recently or sotn way back when doesn't mean you care for the genre at large
>>740553902Yes, and i agree, too few 3d metroidvanias, extremely underutilized "genre" that would be really cool as 3d movement is dope and having progression upgrades around that would be cool.
>>740545759>FurryvaniasUgh.
