How do you justify MMO subscriptions in 2026?
>>740559314well gee, if only there was a private server that was better than the original wow with actual mods and no bots that was still around, wouldn't that be just fucking swell
WoW justifies it by putting out a metric fuckton of constant content updates.Couldn't tell you why ffxiv has a sub though.
Isn't the purpose of subs to pay for new content? Then why the fuck does WoW Classic have a sub?
>>740559441because people will pay it.
They are games that you play for hundreds of hours each week. They become your entire social life. It's a good bang for your buck.
same way you can point to them being the best still. go play ESO, GW2, and any other B2P or F2P MMO and you end up seeing why subscription base works. if nothing else, it keeps the poojeets and children out. that's a win/win to me.
>>740559441people people are literally retarded and will pay blizzard to not moderate their game and then share thier server with 10,000 bots and allow GDKP's and RMT and all that shit, anyone who supports blizzard in current year in any form is pants on head retarded IMOLuckily there was that incident recently where a bunch of their staff tried to add yet another store mount and acidentaly got teleported to a planet made entirely out of feces and urine, and hurrinanes of aids infected syringe needles
>>740559314you cant pay me to play MMOs, i have zero respect for the people who play them
>>740559314Only by giving an experience you can't get elsewhere. I don't think either of those games really offer that, but that was the original selling point of an MMO. No one would pay $15/mo for a game if there was a buy once game that did the same thing.
call me a boomer but I prefer paying for a subscription to having to deal with pay2win or pay2progress. Or gacha
>>740559314how much do you pay for streaming music or video? lol. it's $15/m bro. cancel other subs or make more money.
>740559420even in servers with just hundreds of players botters and RMT goes on. what kind of delulu land do you live in, willful ignorance?
>>740559314Not being poor I think.
>>740559964The major MMOs have stores anyway, and the stuff is ludicrously priced.
Then you also take into account the ARPGs like Path of Exile 2 and Diablo IV and the whole subscription thing raises more questions
>>740559964I used to say that when Spiral Knights had an elevator fee. So many people would bitch because they could only do X floors per day (I think it was like 13 or something, and each took about 10-15 minutes), or you could pay the $5/mo and do unlimited dungeons. If you're playing enough where you're burning through all of your energy by playing for four hours a day nonstop, it's probably worth the $5 that month. What really pissed me off is they eventually took out the elevator fee and added this really shitty RNG heat grind to the game instead. After that, you basically had to sink days of nonstop grinding to get anywhere past rank 3.
>>740559314The goyim keep paying without questioning anything, so why change it? They even brag about being better goyim than others.
i feel i get my $13/mo out of FFXIV
>>740559314Bait thread but there's a discussion worth having about how each form of monetization changes the incentives for the game. If the thing that keeps the lights on and gives the devs yearly bonuses is a cash shop full of cosmetics and QoL upgrades that circumvent gameplay, they're going to focus most of their time and energy on that stuff. Are subscriptions a more virtuous monetization model? Hard to say. At least you're paying developers for a game. If the game sucks, people cancel. If there isn't enough stuff to do, people cancel. If the core experience isn't appealing, then the effort of paying a box price, setting up a sub account, and spending time leveling a character won't survive the temptation of other, easier entertainment options. For a game to have a sub and actually stay alive, you have to expect there's something there worth your time.>all games are pointless and not worth anyone's timeRelatively fucking speaking. If you care about the MMO genre at all, I think the benefits should be obvious.
I haven’t subbed to RuneScape in years and I’m certainly not paying $15 now
>>740559441Classic and Retail are the same sub. If some people only use half of it that's on them.
>>740559314i don't, they should have cosmetic battle passes instead
$6 a month is cheap as fuck How did the French manage to make the best MMORPG of 2026?
Anyone play Project Gorgon?
>>740559314They filter out third worlders, dude. That's how you justify them.
I subbed to wow for the first time ever. Just tried every version Blizzard offers. Dropped each game version within 30 minutes. Retail, classic, hardcore classic, burning crusade, MoP. they all fucking suck bro. wow is just fundamentally boring. not a bad deal though. $15 to realize wow is fucking boring thats a bargain.
>>740559314It probably funds more content for them. So the rape victims addicted to them can spend more time with them without repeating everything into boredom.
>>740559314People are paying them. QED
