Let’s change that
Are you enjoying season 2 folks?
So far I have not felt that the cradle has been overturned. It currently feels like it takes quite a lot of space to level up. Bungie shouldn't be needing this just to cater to the hardcore players that already have gold gear they can break down. It just makes it worse for the more casual players.

So should I be running solo or not? Don't really want to fill in with two randoms. And if I go solo, should I make sure to only queue with other solos, or is that bitch mode?
>>

I have anti Marathon fatigue
>>
>>740563538
i genuinely believe these are botted numbers. They only increases them to 25k from 10k average to make it not look bad since they went free to play.

>>

FPBP.
>>
>>740563538
Also this is more grim when you look at the past three days max CCU. They can only get 100 extra players Friday, Saturday and Today. If it's not being botted, that's pretty dire for a hold past today because it's going to start bleeding through the days until Thursday/end of F2P where it'll collapse back to 15,000-18,000.

[ARGUMENT #27, DELETE THIS LINE WHEN POSTING]
I'm not sure how this season is seen as a “disaster" unless your expectations were running wild. Season 2 has renewed interest and increased sales, fans are happy about the new updates this season brings Bungie's big changes to widen the audience won't really happen until Season 5 where they explicitly talk about blending the ecosystem of PvP and PvE.

So there's no large structural changes until that time, and everything else is going to be iterative or experimental with new content (maps, runners) along the way
>>
It's a casual baby game now

i said it before, they are not making it to 2027. The copium huffing can only get you so far, the game is running on pure illusions. Not even Free to play can get people to play this dogshit. Sony is definitely reviewing their plan to completely dismember the studio right now.
>>
>>740563063
Matchmaking has felt real wonky so far, I don't think they fully fixed whatever was causing issues on day one.
I also don't like Night Marsh very much, it's better than Day Marsh because of the towers and the cert boxes but the upper level of complex is really lame and yet seems to be all anyone cares about doing even if they don't really know how and can't find most of the panels.
>>

they can't even give this shit away for free lmaooooo
>>
Trying it out during the free weekend, I've found that the game is really quite boring when you get past the initial contracts. I had the most fun running solo on the beginner perimeter match. There's so much going on during a firefight that I can't keep up.
>>
>>740563538
>27k players
how is this bad? i don't know the nu-/v/ meta
>>
>>740568590
it was being touted as something that was going to be bigger than arc raiders, and was even -marketed like it was the next halo
this game basically needed like 270K CCU to even have a shot at being profitable
>>
>>740563063
Nothing meaningful has been added in terms of content or longevity. It's a fun but ultimately extremely shallow game with utterly nothing to work toward. The loot you get at the start is not worse than "purple" or "gold" stuff. There is no story. The missions are a meaningless grind and busy work. There are no stakes and no rewards.
>>
>>740565734
Sony are idiots for not essentially forcing them to make Destiny 3. People want it. It would justify the money that was spent on this studio. Marathon is a small side project that hasn't panned out and should be discarded as such.

Temporary bump during Season 2 release + a Free to Play week. It was about to fall below 10k and probably will do so within a few weeks. Tremendously poor performance for a $300m-ish investment.

>10,000 players after 80,000 launch
>F2P "week"/extended a three days still can't push past 40,000 (day one with a server meltdown that extended) and
>loses that 40,000 to where it's 20,000 barely breaking into 30,000 CCU
It's bad. You don't need to be an economist to know they aren't breaking even or making money on it. Every day the servers are on adds another $100+ to the costs.
>>
>>740570049
300 million is conservative, this shit has been in development for like 8 years
>>
>>740571007
Also before I forget:
>Steam charts that everyone wanks over accounts for 70% of their sales.

>Playstation, the company that bought them (Sony) only accounts for 30% of sales

So...

>Steam charts are actaully HIGHLY accurate for the player counts for this title.

10,000 and being generous and adding 3,000 from Sony for a grand total for 13,000 for a $3.7B bought studio that just released a $300M game three months ago is DIRE no matter how you try to spin it.

They are chasing that Starcraft 2/Dota 2/CSGO/Overwatch/Pubg/Fortnite/Apex/Valorant high, these 7 years defined the gaming landscape as one of the most profitable venues in digital entertainment, game companies started sponcoring multiple organizations specifically for scouting and raising regional talent into international champions, competetive scene saw a massive influx of old players who quit playing before in favor of a normal job, the generous monetary compensation for what previously was only known as a dumb hobby for nerds invited millions of normalfags into the fray as well, the streamer culture was also established as a foothold for funneling young kids and adults into the hobby and pro-scene, the rise of third party gambling sites and MTX rush, the normalization of skins and battlepasses in F2P models, the push for multimedia, all of it was done for 1 purpose: nourishing toxic postivity environment online where any negativity was treated as a personal insult, disregarding any criticism as work of the competitor's agent:
>do not betray your cult(live service online game)
>do not defy your religion(greedy game company)
>spend any amount of money for the blessings(lootboxes)
>recruit your friends and family members(word of mouth marketing)
>shame the non-believers(brand loyalty)
>seek favor with the priests(community managers and ecelebs)
>place your trust on the grand plan(roadmap)
>praise the Lord(company CEO)
Such environment ensures total subjugation of free will and drives a man insane(see Destiny players)

Marathon probably needs 300k for half a year to make back the few hundred mil they spent making it. Only after that break even point could 30k maybe be ok, but then only if they lay off most of Bungie. Remember anon, Marathon has 300 devs working on it, and those devs cost Bungie $4-5m a month in salaries alone.

Its been confirmed Sony put most of the money in for development and marketing but stopped entirely since and are unwilling to spend any more on it. They specifically need to lay off 200 people from the team and hit a stable peak of 30k players and then current sales can offset losses. Wether it will or not who knows but its not going to PS+ any time soon.

Bungie is still in the red at least $300m on Marathon, if not more. They need to recoup those costs to break even, and only after that can they begin trying to make a profit. Even if Bungie fired 99% of their people and went down to 10 people chained to their desks and told to keep Marathon active, there's no ignoring the large pit they're sitting in.

I don't think it's rape, rape is a specific thing, but it IS an issue that I think is interesting. It reminds me of this short story

That said, Thief is clearly a separate entity to the original person whose likeness it's based off.

Marathon's strength has always been its story and worldbuilding. In the originals the gameplay was merely passable, but it served as an ok vessel to carry you from terminal to terminal.
Then they made Halo, which frankly retreads a lot of the same concepts and symbolism as Marathon to the point where you could almost call it the same series, but through a much better lens of storytelling (cutscenes and dialogue weaved into action gameplay) and people loved the game for it.
Nu-Marathon meanwhile focuses on hyper-competetive niche sweaty genre, where the storytelling devolves into reading codex entries (going backwards) and any sort of environmental storytelling falls flat simply because you don't have time to appreciate and think about the scenery since you need to be alert - after all, a camper with a shotgun could be hiding behind any corner. I frankly hate Bungie's obsession of storytelling through live service games, it's the worst shit ever and they consider it peak of the medium.
>>740601495
It's basically an equivalent of sloppers making deepfake models of celebrities today. So probably giga illegal by the time cybernetics evolve this far in the Marathon universe.

What little I've played I've enjoyed. I
Pretty much got filtered by the difficulty so I only jump in in occasionally. Not really much point me trying to play seriously when I'm useless. Keyboard and mouse support for ps5 would somewhat cure my inferiority, but the reality is the people who play this game are just rather good at it and when the entire scenario revolves around ambush tactics chumps like me don't stand a chance.

>Marathon is flopping
>Marathon fans can only laugh at how there's no Destiny 3
This is like Marathon and Destiny are passengers on a Bungie Airlines flight, and the plane starts to crash. They both watch Sony take the only parachute and jump out, leaving Bungie in the pilot's cabin alone. Marathon then turns to Bungie and says 'Haha, you're going to die! AHAHAH' while either ignoring or accepting that he's dying too.

It's so strange to me, this mindset.

my logic chain was:
We wouldn't need invasive anticheat if the game allowed user-hosted and curated servers -> we can't have user-hosted and curated servers because bungie decided to make the game an always online extraction shooter -> extraction shooter was a poor choice
That was the original post
What I implied is that we wouldn't be in this mess if they instead chose to do a single-player campaign with normal human being storytelling instead of live service dripfeed, and then in addition to that we could have multiplayer (you know, like in that other game that took the world by storm) that could then allow for user-hosted dedicated servers, and there would be much less of a need for gay anticheats

Do NOT play this game solo. It's not worth it. Best strat is to be a rat crouch walking everywhere as an assassin or Recon.

Do NOT play with randoms. They fucking suck. You're just donating loot to other teams.

This game is made for premade 3 stacks on Discord. Go find a discord group or uninstall.
>>
>>740603153
I see. First of all,
>user-hosted and curated servers
There is no universe where this happens. The only way Marathon was feasibly going to get revived was either as a singleplayer remake or as a live service game (extraction shooter or otherwise). And even me bringing up singleplayer is a stretch. Second,
>live service dripfeed
I'm fine with this on a conceptual level. With this model, I buy a game once, and I can come back to it everyone once in a while when it gets an expansion, instead of going through everything there will ever be to it right away. But with Marathon, I'm becoming dubious of this since season 2 added jack shit to the story. This is a fair criticism you've brought up.

I don't think that this is fully accurate. Many changes in season 2 were in response to player feedback, like making progression less grindy, reworking the implants, and redesigning factions trees and the armory. But content wise, yes, most likely.
>>
>>740617051
I don't think these specific shells should even have any genitals at all
>>
>>740617258
Most of the changes you mentioned are simple things that are just numbers in a spreadsheet or database somewhere. The faction trees and armory stuff is probably the hardest since there's UI stuff I bet.

The only really new and unplanned content they've been doing is all of the 'experiments' like duos, limited PVE, and other stuff that's them panicking to try to save the game. And I think the trailer from SOP was just showing off the new character and new map, which would have both been made a while ago. And those trailers also take a few weeks at least to make, probably a month.

Yes and no. It's probably not hard to roll out, but actually (re)designing progression is not trivial.
>And I think the trailer from SOP was just showing off the new character and new map, which would have both been made a while ago. And those trailers also take a few weeks at least to make, probably a month.
The SOP trailer was cut up gameplay footage. That's easy. It's the cinematics that take time. We still don't have 2 out of 8 shell cinematics, Vandal and Sentinel.

>>740617804
Redesigning progression is mostly math you don't need to do in the game. Just a bunch of designers locked in a room doing models in Excel. The real bitch there is testing them, which would by all rights be a multi week affair, but since it's clear they're just putting stuff in the game and doing kneejerk fixes. Speed over certainty is better for them in this case, since the game could be literally empty in a few months.

Well, I have some bad news for Bungie, they have royally fucked up already, because they basically mitigated the effects of the three months wipe
>bungie dumbfucks thought that the light pvp mode on the free week would totally make good impressions on the players, instead they got full gold/purple kitted giganigga rape machines
>sweats and streamers have access to uncontested gold loot because rooks didn't even spawn in sponsored Narsh lmao
>newbs getting absolutely fucking confused by this game mode because it's fucking dark and can't explore properly, resulting in frequent deaths from bots
>shit ton of people recieved multiple blue/purple server d/c apology kits plus kits from the previous season on top of it
>newbs pick sentinel as their first runner because it's objectively coolest looking shell in the game and is heavily featured in the promos, get bodied in the open because Sentinel is designed for trios and cryo, not for solo perimeter or narsh
>every player from the previous season has optimized their farming routes and has put hundreds of hours in Assassin/Thief/Destroyer, meaning every new player will have to face that shit regularly once the free week is over
Bungie fumbled pretty hard this time around ngl
>>
>>740617258
The problem is that everything they changed are things that never should have been a problem to begin with. Anyone that plays games could sit there and in a single workday give a rundown on where the pain points are, what’s counter intuitive, where all the problems are. It all stands out to players within their first interactions with the UI. It’s a fucking embarrassment that it even released in the state it did and they still haven’t come up with a solid solution
>just duplicate every single item in the armory and move it the side for barters
>whoops it’s fucking ugly
They still can’t figure out how to make map, fill, and team size selection stick, defaulting itself after every single game
>>
>>740620557
Thanks for the analysis, anon. Is Nightmarsh the only map that does the PVP Lite thing?

And the sweats figured out that they can use the PVP Lite thing themselves to farm the fuck out of gear?

I think what you're describing is exactly the risk of going fast with something economy related, but I get why they had to do it. If there was nothing at all PVE in Season 2's launch, it'd be even worse than this broken PVE stuff.

The biggest problem they have is they can't get new players in, and no new players means no new people spending money, which means it's just the same miserable echo chamber of sweats that it was at the end of season 1.

I don't think there was any easy way to do this, desu.
>>
>>740620557

It looks like a shoe company collab nobody asked for. Everything has that overdesigned neon techwear slop where you can't tell what anything is supposed to be at a glance, but the art director clearly thought "bold colors" was a personality.

Old Marathon had more identity with like 12 pixels and a terminal screen.

Yeah, they actually know about finances not like these armchair wannabe chud experts
Even if they may be losing money right now (they aren’t) they know that Marathon will start making profits soon, you just can’t launch such an ambitious and gigantic project and expect it to make its money on the first day, no one does that
That’s why they are long term INVESTMENTS, they are supposed to be years long
>>
>>740625419

They absolutely are, what are you talking about? The 400 devs at Bungie attached to Marathon cost $3-5m a month. Marathon isn't making that much and is nowhere near recouping its original budget.

I don't see Marathon/Bungie surviving unless they basically rework Marathon entirely. Its way, way too niche of a game for a studio the size of Bungie. WAY too hardcore, confusing for new players, and punishing for people who don't have 10k hours on CS, Apex, or one of the other skill-based FPS shooters on the market. Its not only Marathon though, the entire extraction shooter fad is starting to die out slowly.

>>
>>740627694

Battle Royale, yes.

Extraction, no.

BR was hot. Extraction wasn't.

That's my entire point: They've tried to force Extraction Shooters to be "hot" after Battle Royal and they always crash and burn/flop on their face.

THE ONLY non-Tarkov Extraction Shooter that is popular/has players is "DMZ" in Call of Duty and that's because of the power of the CoD IP/brand.

Battlefields? Flopped so fast they threw in the towel to not waste development time after two weeks from BF2042's launch.

(Being fair to BF though: The Battle Royales have flopped twice now. EA just needs to get a brain [morans!] and understand Battlefield players want BATTLEFIELD, not tacked on modes)

to me Bungie/Sony giving up on Destiny is just so bizarre. They fucked up big time with Destiny because they siphoned so much of the money into Marathon's development instead of keeping it in Destiny. But Destiny has way, way more appeal than Marathon does (I believe Destiny is actually insanely popular on Console whereas Marathon isn't at all, likely because there are so few 'MMO' options on console). This whole ending development for Destiny just strikes me as a huge mistake.
>>
>>740628469

To be fair, at least Concord was indeed a Sony product.

You shouldn't trust either. You should listen to the arguments of people on both sides, look at the product yourself, and make your own decision.

I'd also not put much into the opinion of someone with 300 hours unless you're just asking for objective information. You're not putting that much time into a single game in three months unless you're well into it, and all of the Marathon supporters on the Steam forums who are on the biggest copium are the ones with 250 or more hours played.

>>740628779

The entire Destiny franchise's budget is stated as $500m, and I think the original (and all of its expansions) only ended up costing $150m or so.

Destiny 2's base cost was probably $200m, but with all of the expansions it could've gotten to $500m, but I can't find any clear data about it.

>>740629131
It's funny because nobody would give a shit about D2 being killed if D3 was announced beforehand. Sony choosing not to make D3 makes killing D2 all the more confusing.

Why you keep shilling for this flop game confuses me. Unless you're paid I guess, but you've done more to convince people it's not worth playing than anything thoughbeit

its going to get at least another 2 seasons but eventually Sony will pull the plug on long term development. The current player count would be fine for a small studio of ~50-60 devs but Bungie is a huge studio of 600+ developers, Marathon is way too niche of a game in a dying market. Regardless of if you love or hate Marathon, the current trajectory of the game is not good. I enjoy both games but realistically Destiny 2 is going to be pulling 10x the player count tomorrow and probably for a long time. Not a good look any way you spin it.

>Oh, it's the tourist shill

>>740629982
marathon doesn't even have a content problem it has a core game design problem. Extraction shooters are the pinnacle of hardcore gameplay. Even a super casual player can go have fun in Fortnite, Apex, League of Legends, DotA, etc..., a casual player cannot have fun long term in Marathon. You get good gear? Oops you die and lose all of it. That moment right there is when most of your player base quits unless they really like the core idea of an extraction shooter.

It's actually not a problem, because the game is fine as an extraction game. The real problem is their core game design only appeals to a tiny niche audience, which is the exact fucking opposite of what you want when you spend 250 million to make your game.

I completely agree. I meant my response more as 'why isn't Marathon popular and successful?'. Because it never will be due to it being an extraction shooter, its just way too niche of a game. Its actually a fantastic extraction shooter imo, but the subgenre that it resides in is just super niche.

>I think seasons 1 2 and 3 were done before the game shipped
Maps, maybe. Changes absolutely not. They're floundering and trying to retain players, which is why Seasons 2's "changes" were hyped up and the F2P week/end started the day after season 2 started to try to get interest.

It sort of worked, but looking at SteamDB/Charts and it's clear it also didn't work on retaining people. People came, saw the changes and immediately went "nah, not for me" and bailed.

The TRUE test will be if the 20,000 still playing holds past Tomorrow (the intended end of F2P) and/or Thursday (the extended end of F2P) if Marathon immediately craters back to the 11,000 it had before F2P/Season 2, it's over.
>>
>>740630323
>success as an extraction shooter
Yes, I legitimately think it might be the best on the market in terms of gun play.
>success as a $200m+ budget behemoth from Bungie, a studio with over 500 active developers
lolno, not even close.

That's the problem. The genre of game that Marathon is part of IS the core problem. Its unfixable unless they rework the entire game to become not an extraction shooter, but at that point why not just make Destiny 3? Its too late now obviously but clearly someone was giving Bungie/Sony bad information as to how popular the extraction shooter market would be amongst the masses. Right now extraction shooters have zero casual mass appeal.

the problem is Destiny 2 clearly has a massive fucking playerbase, FAR larger than Marathon, and they are ending production on that game to instead focus on an extremely niche, small playerbase game that will not make them nearly as much revenue. Its a very puzzling business decision that doesn't make much sense. It feels like classic sunk cost fallacy. They invested so much money in Marathon that they're hyper focused on trying to make it successful instead of just investing into the already proven golden goose of the Destiny IP.
>>
>>740630602
I think the test is player numbers after F2P week ends, because that's the real put up or shut up moment for anyone that came back to check it out if they hadn't bought it already.

Tomorrow is going to be a humiliation ritual for Bungie when D2 gets 3-4x the CCU peak on Steam than Marathon because of the big patch.

We all know Marathon is dying. Why do you think they're resorting to a free week and a sale between seasons. The daily player count was getting dangerously low. They killed all future updates for destiny and it had something like 3x the player count of Marathon. Fairgames is more extraction slop with essentially the same premise as that Relooted game that flopped. They were so concerned about the feedback they decided to change the name completely. Its a foregone conclusion its going to flop hard

I know this dumb shit flinging will never end.

But I want you to know that guild wars 3 just got announced.

Guild wars 2 is 14 years old, runs like flaming shit, is woke as fuck, and gets fewer players in a year then marathon gets in a month.

arenanet (the dev) has announced that guild wars 2 will continue to receive new content and expansions indefinitely concurrently with ongoing dev of gw3.

they've also committed to ongoing updates for the original guild wars indefinitely (you are younger than this game).

none of these games have ever had a sub fee, battlepasses, music videos, retard influencers, twitch streams with more than 200 people, or really any kind of marketing at all. yet somehow these games survive. it is not that hard to not be another concord or highguard, and statistically its extremely rare. you've never played guild wars, you'd hate it and call it shit, and yet it managed to survive this long and produce sequels and dev commitment.

Tarkov is both an extraction shooter and a milsim. There was a very large audience of old Arma players that moved over to Tarkov when it launched, not so much for the extraction shooter elements but for the milsim part. Its quite simple and easy to understand. Marathon's UI is fucking garbage and the new player onboarding experience is one of the worst I've ever seen.

turns out making a game for 0.0001% of players that make it through the filter is not a recipe for a successful game. I look forward to this game's EoS announcement within a year, possibly including the dissolution of Bungie as a studio.

GW2 was great for some of its life, good for most of its life, and only downhill in the last four years, I'd say.

Marathon, by comparison, was stillborn and is fine for an extraction shooter, but an absolute disaster for an expensive AAA game that's supposed to start a franchise to replace Destiny.

>>
>>740635935
Were you a failed abortion? Bungie has no other products other than Marathon and killed their main cash cow, their entire overpriced studio depends on the success of this shitheap game.
>>
>>740635984
the choice to keep marathon is clearly sunk cost fallacy, I wouldn't look at it any deeper than that
>>
>>740635935
>Dude the game that made Bungie close its other game is totally not meant to replace the other and start a new franchise
>>
>>740636048
Between the two games, I'd argue that Destiny 2 was a bigger sunk cost because it was probably the reason why Bungie asked for $3.6b from Sony when they got bought. 'You're buying this established AAA live service franchise, goy! You'd be a fool not to give us $3b! It's worth $3.3b easy! Come on, it's only $3.6b!'

I think them keeping Marathon is someone doubling down on a bad bet and refusing to admit it was a bad bet to begin with.
>>

Destiny 2 was sunk cost. Destiny 3 should have been the choice over Marathon, that's the point. Destiny 3 could have been fully designed from the ground up to be a live service, permanently updated game such as Warframe. They could have fixed the storage problems that plagued D2, and made a game that could have been updated for years and years to come. Destiny is Bungie's most valuable IP by far.

>>
>>740635682
Hilarious that you don't see the obvious problem with most players not making it past 'the filter'. It isn't a good thing.
>>
>>740636273
No, Bungie oversold their studio by shilling like 5 different incubation projects that they had "in the works" as well as Marathon, Marathon was stuck in dev hell for way longer than it needed to be and it came out stillborn, now Bungie has no other projects to raise their value since it was all taken over by Sony and pushed to other studios, and were forced to kill Destiny which was killed during the Marathon crunch as well, so they're completely fucked now.
>>
>>740636496
Change it from what though? XIV went from poor XI clone to WoW clone. Marathon is just doing what every other Extraction shooter is doing already, except being very fucking late to the party.
>>
>>740636545

>>

>>
>>740636345
My point was I think it's fair to assume Destiny 2 had a much higher valuation than Marathon did when Sony bought Bungie, so that plus the 400 devs working on Destiny 2 made it a higher sunk cost to maintain.

>>740636358
Are you slow, anon? Bungie publicly announced they're stopping work on Destiny 2 with no new project announced to fill the gap. That means Bungie and Sony chose Marathon over Destiny 2.

>>740636410
Yeah, I'd love to see some insider information on how the hell they chose to back this niche extraction game over an existing, established live service model that lends itself to MTX.
>>
>>740636530
Visible damage layering was recently added a season and a half ago and still has some visual anomalies. You can at least break a lot of shit in Finals, vs. how fucking static Marathon is and unfortunately ARC as well, which begs the question as to why there's no baked shadows in the game.
>>
>>740636595
Then you're making a game for very few people and the playerbase isn't nearly large enough to support a studio as large as Bungie. Financially its a huge fucking problem anon. Clearly the game is having huge problems with player retention EVEN DURING A FREE WEEK.
>>
>>740636597
that not going to be enough to bring people into this game, there's already million PvP hero shooters and no one is going to drop $40 for one.
>>
>>740636613
I wouldn't mind a first-person Helldivers. Deep Rock already did what it did well enough, and no one else can do what Warframe is doing, which is taking literally over a fucking decade to start telling a story.
>>
>>740636613
I agree, they could even rebrand the game entirely. A mission based PvE shooter, maybe keep some of the PvP as side content. Add a central area where everyone can see each other and talk. You earn loot and bring it into those missions. You could even re-name the game to be something new, call it...'Destiny'.

wait....
>>
>>740636664
>it is fair to say
Sony literally said that in an earnings call when they recognized an impairment and clarified it was because D2 didn't perform as well as they assumed it would. Which is hilarious desu considering how old the game is and how bungie did everything they could to torch players goodwill
>>
>>740636613
yawn.. i think i'll keep playing marathon as it is and leave you to your slop then
>>
>>740563063
Honestly, I do enjoy the gameplay and love the aesthetic. I just kind of... hate the lore? Like, why would anyone be salvaging Spoiled Ration Pack or biomedical waste? You salvage stuff that matters and is worth something. It's why computer monitors are just tossed in landfills: the steel and copper in them is so little compared to their weight it's literally worthless to the scrapyards.

It all feels so pointless. I can play for cosmetics or something, and feel happy I get a reward, but I'm only doing this while it's free. Once it goes back on sale I don't really have any desire to buy and replay it. Dying 3 out of 4 times wears thin pretty fast.
>>
>>740636864
The impairment loss wasn't directly attributed to Destiny 2, if I recall. They did say Destiny 2 hadn't been meeting expectations, so the impairments are probably a combo from that and Marathon flopping.
>>
>>740636613
Its basically already that with the faction missions. Some retard at Bungie decided to tack on the pvp extraction crap. They probably thought extraction shooters were going to be the next big genre
>>
>>740636676
Then explain Warframe.
>>
>>740637094
It was directly attributed to D2. Q2 2025 if you want to see for yourself.
>>
>>740637163
Warframe is very successful and doesn't overspend in its development, it's currently in a drought. Marathon just launched a season, has a free week and still can't pull enough numbers.
>>
>>740637249
That was the first smaller impairment loss. The latest and largest one wasn't attached to a specific game umless I'm misremembering
>>
>>740637249
The irony is that Destiny only died down because they pulled back on the frequency of content to finish Marathon faster, and the new director ruined the entire progression system.
>>
>new wipe
>but hardcore no lifers get purples

>>740637163
Its community got used to looking shit up on wikis real quick, being primarily a PC playerbase.
Digital Extremes is also situated in London, Ontario of Canada, which pays staff fuck-all relative to the US game-dev median.
>>
>>740637859
I love how they're always panicking and changing stuff at the last minute like chickens with their heads cut off. They're really just winging all of it like recently graduated amateurs.
>>
>>740637413
Don't forget another reason Destiny 2 died is they made it impenetrable for new players by deleting major pieces of game content. New players will be completely lost. Its like a book where every few chapters there are multiple chapters missing. No new fresh blood to keep the game alive plus no new content for old heads means a stagnant game destined to die
>>
>>740637859
Wait what's this about progression I didn't see any patch notes for it.
>>
>>740637859
>Bungie nerfs progression
I'm not a game designer but it doesn't seem hard to look at a player's level or vault value or any other stats and speed up or slow down progression based on that, right?

so if you're a sweat that grinded this whole time and you're geared out and high level, slow down loot gain for you or break loot from other players if you kill them and try to get it, and vice versa for lower level players.
>>
>>740638010
I believe they had to do that because Destiny 2's engine was fundamentally not built to support that much content. The game would have been like 300gb+ if they didn't sunset shit.
>>
>>740638072
Divide the game into content chapters and let the players preload chapters ahead of the current one/uninstall ones they cleared if your game resources are that fucking large.
>>
>>740638072
The irony of your statement is that literally all the content is still there, all the previous seasons removed, even stuff from the red war era remains in some way or form just out of bounds, so that excuse is moot.

There was no reason for me to fight because, as a Guardian, I had nothing to fight for.

I don't see how a MMO like game would have fit in the game world considering the colony has been wiped out by the contagion and even the AI got fucked.
Speaking of the lore I was intrigued by uncovering the mystery of why things happened but the payoff as been lame when I finished nucaloric questline.
The contractors are lame (except maybe for nona) and the codex entries are mid. Only cool things I saw was one cat apparition (the one from the teaser), hearing him meow on bio research, and one kino transmission at the beginning of a match maybe Durandal speaking

The spooky shit on nightmarsh are pretty nice too.

>>740639726
chartfagging over singleplayer titles is a bit retarded for sure but for multiplayer games in particular it can expose narratives being spread to save izzat or try and milk investors for capitol to use on another failed multiplayer project. Also it's just funny to see something get shilled and hyped to the moon and then fail to acquire any kind of reasonable playerbase because it was all totally inorganic
>>
>>740639925
>can expose narratives being spread to save izzat or try and milk investors for capitol to [...] shilled and hyped to the moon and then fail to acquire any kind of reasonable playerbase because it was all totally inorganic
yeah but can you see how this is only tangentially even related to video games?
if someone wants to talk about a game and wet-blankets only wanna jerk off about finance then this becomes a finance board and not a video game board.
>>
>>740639782
MMO is a bad term for it but im saying, why not make a fun RPG game instead of force the annoying battle royale/current multiplayer team mechanics into this fps game? Extraction shooters essentially are the bastard child of battle royales, and they sure arent fun to interact with when you just want to progress the story.

Destiny is barely an MMO. It's more like Borderlands bro-op with an optional PVP component you can queue for.
