I wish this game had a normal map
>>
Silksong was my game of the year and im desperate to experience the highs of that game again, will minas game do it for me?
>>
>>740586665
So do I. I'm constantly lost and struggle to navigate between areas.
>>
>>740588424
They are really different, only common thing between them is that they are both needlessly hard. Mina has steeper learning curve and better "answers", also a lot of gameplay is scanning the screen for secrets and tricky platforming
>>
>>740586665
Likely impossible. You see the room you're in and thats it. The problem arises when you start putting more rooms together, because they're not made to fit. Theres an online map that shows that a lot of the rooms overlap and don't connect at the right distance.

Does anyone else think that while the healing system works fine for combat, it feels like shit for the platforming sections? They’re almost unbearable unless you use that trinket that constantly heals a fixed amount of hp.
>>
where is that one drawfriend that was making the futa rhene x mina comic he better finish it before these threads die for real
>>
>>740589302
Yeah its second to last area, I went there when I was supposed to but I activated only two mirrors so its definitely possible to get there earlier
>>

>Endgame stuff should be blocked of
Why?
>>
>>740586665
True, even Link's Awakening had a proper map that showed individual screens, I think. Maybe it would look too unwieldy with the layouts they chose?
>>
>>740590116
I stopped using the vials altogether I just let the IV trinket use them as it wants
>>
>>740590354
It'd probably be a bit confusing to differintiate what's an interior, and what's underground, but either way the map isn't so big that you're going to get lost. Ossex connects to every area, and then those areas are pretty linear. Obviously it becomes less linear once you unlock shortcuts, but you should be able to recount your steps for where you went.
>>
>>740590116
pretty sure most people share that sentiment since the most common way of gaining plasma is through combat
>>
>>740590116
Personally just wish Plasma by default didn't lower when you took damage. If it did that, it'd at least combine well with the Plasma Jug trinket to let you have a full heal in reserve for platforming sections.

>>
>>740600087
>>740600109
I've fucked around with mirrors so much since the beginning of the game when the NPC complained that her daughter or whatever disappeared into one. I was attacking them, using different sidearms, attempting with different trinkets equipped.... Never would I have thought to keep pressing up. They were true to life with the GBC guide-dang-it shit, this is just as bad as the Palm Tree crap in Final Fantasy Adventure. Glad I asked.

I think the IV trinket is overlooked as a general convenience and good on any build that's not based on plasmaxxing. It's very handy during combat-heavy sections since I'm not usually thinking about running out of vials so much as "I wish this boss would fuck off for a second so I could use ONE".
>>
>>740586665
Normal as in a map showing each room or a map like an actual 2d Zelda, with most rooms having 4 entrances and actual exploration, instead of every area being a linear trog with platforming and 90% of the side paths and secrets being just a room with a jewel?
Because those are the two biggest problems with this game.
>>
>>740600291
>Never would I have thought to keep pressing up
Lmao literally the first thing I did after I found a mirror in the graveyard dungeon. I'm impressed on how many people simply missed this, it even does a funky soundeffect if you stay still for 1 second in front of a mirror.

>>740601206
Warding beastium, IV and plasma jug let you be bad at the game and tank super easily. Just whack the big guy more than he's whacking you by some margin and you should get enough health back to heal even with warding beastium's heal nerf.
>>
>>740601626
There's a pusher thing while the fish is alive, there's just a buried bit of bones there that you probably already collected iirc.

All five are good in their own way. Compared to whip your usual experience with the others would be

>Whisper and Vesper
You are either gimped with it or you do crazy damage, no in-between. Most people pick this as their first weapon.
>Blastrike Maul
Absurd damage. Requires a bit of prediction to use effectively, but once you do it oneshots a lot of stuff in the game. Expect to feel onsets of maniacal laughter as generator bosses crumble before you.
>Battery Buster
Another very silly weapon, because it can attack at angles, bank shots off walls, and just because you can attack from further away than anyone else.
>Hollower's Shield
A middle finger to all enemies that rely on contact damage. Requires good timing, but if you do also unleashes silly damage. Beware constantly shielding because your shield has durability, and it can break if you block too strong of a hit. It means you will drop your guard for a second.
>>

There isnt a single piece of cheese in this game.
Is there?
There has to be somewhere. Maybe some background food in the feast? Is it because there are no cattle on the island?
Like if there is actually 0 cheese in the base experiance. Id assume there has to be a piece hidden somewhere.
Unless someone at yatch club just thought it would be really funny not to have any cheese in the game.
Oh this is going to bother me.
>>
>>740602514
Mash faster, you should be able to hit twice.
If the enemy is moving towards you it lets you stab them a dozen times.
Then when you get the upgrade that lets you close the gap, you can charge slash, stab and back off.

Dagger throw is a bit niche.
>>
>>740602550
It kind of is funnier to have no cheese in a mouse game, thinking about it.
>>
>>740602550
There is literally no cheese in the entire game. Mina is a plasma junkie, not a cheeseoholic.
>>
>>740602850
Real mice don't have any strong preferences for cheese. They just eat anything. But it seems like a weird point to get realistic on and not even have a funny line.
>>
>>740602514
Against advancing enemies, you can use the pushback as a backstep to keep dealing damage while spacing them out.
If they aren't advancing, you can jump forward while stabbing or use the dash attack upgrade.
>>
>>740601837
Interesting combination, I never considered that plasma jug might basically offset the warding beastium's bad heal. I'll have to give that a shot once I have all three on this run.
But yeah, whoever that anon was that wanted a trinket that made the game use a different healing system IV is basically it, since it boils down to doing enough damage heals you.

>>740601707
Whip would be so reliable except for all the weird little quirks like completely different ranges depending on what direction you're facing and air attacks being completely fucked if there happens to be a wall nearby. Meanwhile hammer has about the same range and just werks

My main issue in this game in the currency. It feels like every 2 steps there's some side thing where you flip through a bunch of shit to pick up a handful of bones. It's not a meaningful reward and a lot of these side challenges aren't great. I don't remember Zelda games having chests that were 99% rupees. This worked in shovel knight because it was a handful of challenges per stage, carefully worked in and tied to the theme of the stage, just feels like bloat here. Why did they think this was a good idea? Even in Dark Souls it's not like this.
>>
Unpopular opinion, but as a fellow mousefag, I don't like Mina that much. She has a great design, but her personality and interactions are dryer than the Sahara Desert. She has like no actual opinions on anything and her only having one face sprite for conversations is strange given how huge her spritesheet is. You made Mousenheimer, you think she'd be a little bit more emotional at the whole "my magic nuclear power plant is le dangerous!?' revelation.

>>740604740
I won't deny I can nitpick the game like crazy, but a lot of it is more core design flaws and system incompatibilities. From how the plasma healing doesn't work on the numerous platforming sections, the weird leveling system, the refusal to use normal sidearms over making me pick them up all over the place, to the very hollowing mechanic being slow and unwieldy and not being useful for the boss fights and their crazy pattern spam. Getting the Mist Jar and having an ACTUAL DODGE really opened my eyes to how little of the game comes together. Compare with Hollow Knight/Silksong or even just Shovel Knight and it really makes me question what was the goal of the game?

It's a really neat game but if it costed any more or even just matched the price of Silksong, I would have much stronger reservations on any recommendations.

zelda games already have like, practically nothing to fucking buy the entire game... and you sit there with 999 rupees the whole game doing nothing with them.
One of the biggest complaints about elden ring is 90% of loot discoveries you make are some minor consumable you will never use. I'd really truly have liked to get a fucking soul item instead every single time instead of a throwing knife or poultice.

finding a bonestone is like finding a quarter heartpiece except you can spend it on a different upgrade or trinket if you want or just pump it straight into your levels.

>>
>>740605306
mist jar was a trap option I ditched 3 minutes after finding it the first time and never used again
the bosses are all pretty predictable and you just need to position appropriately, know to jump or dive through the attack that's coming
and honestly by the time I had 3 bosses down the trinkets and upgrades were so plentiful I face tanked everything except the end boss.
>>
>>740605997
Mist jar is broken as fuck. With a couple trinkets you literally can spam it and use it to heal yourself to full over and over and over.
>>
>>740605303
>>740605794
Yeah I wouldn't complain about the actual economy systems. Bonestone in itself is a pretty "meh" reward for the various challenges, but being able to buy a wide degree of upgrades and trinkets to your liking is one of the few times the Soulsborne design actually comes together. Soulsborne games are as hard as you make it as they are naturally hard, and Mina follows suit pretty well.

>>740605997
>and honestly by the time I had 3 bosses down the trinkets and upgrades were so plentiful I face tanked everything except the end boss.
Yeah I find myself doing that too, Mist Jar was mostly helpful for me with the Evra boss since you CAN'T facetank her. But the fact I need to predict so far in advance, combined with how SOMETIMES the jump is a dodge but SOMETIMES it is not, makes it more tiresome. I don't think burrowing fixes any form of "roll/parryslop" complaints endemic to Soulsborne discourse, I think it just ends up tedious and unfulfilling and makes the whole core of the game fall flat.
>>
>>740605794
this basically, bone is just a way of what upgrades you want to prioritize
bonestone is more valuable by being a permanent version that you can save for when you need it instead of having to grind if you found something you want but just spent it all on a level up
>>
>>740606292
>buy a wide degree of upgrades and trinkets to your liking

I wish they had toned done the platforming a bit and made it more encounter focused like, well, a soulslike, atleast when it comes to the major progress.

It isn't impossible to have an upgrade system scale alongside difficulty. Most RPGs would be nonexistent in your mind if that was a real issue.
The problem with Mina comes from wanting an open-world design to begin with, despite not really having anything worth exploring for. They shot their potential difficulty curve out back for arguably nothing, Ossex doesn't have strong enough landmarks or memorable locations. Nor is the world big enough or have the scale other open-world games. The upgrades aren't helping the difficulty discussion, but it isn't like they are the problem compared to the design goals of the game in the first place. Plus it isn't like the upgrades don't have their own curve and distribution, it isn't like you can make a broken Mina from the get-go with enough grinding or sequence breaking.

It's just one of those things that shows how this was originally a B-Team effort and wasn't supposed to be the "Savior of Yacht Club Games" it ended up as.

>>740606815
>In the same vain it falls into this trap Shovel Knight already did, where every area has like 3-4 unique environmental hazards that have to be introduced slowly and built up into a combined nightmare and in such a predictable way, that it feels completely unnatural.
This makes more sense for Shovel Knight since it was a platformer. It's allowed to have some goofy structures and challenges, the genre is built around such. And it COULD have been more reasonable with Mina if it wasn't an open-world game where it is far more expected for everything to "click" together. You are supposed to view Ossex as its own world and ecosystem, not Super Mario Land With More Lightning Pylons.

You can complete areas in any order you like. I did Orrery about 4th and it was fine. The whole time you're creating shortcuts and making permanent progress so you can keep going until the difficulty shuts you out (assuming that happens).

But every rpg is exactly that. It's casual retards that get a chubby over cheesing the game, every rpg has been this since time immemorial where you just bash two extremely obvious feats together for an extremely obvious benefit and you're supposed to feel clever. This game is that, and that's why it's not fun. It's busy work and braindead "decisions".

Specific side arms are necessary to collect certain secrets, so it's not like they're worthless. And trinkets are fucking gamechangers. You absolutely need those for certain parts, like Wallower gloves.

But yeah, you aren't gated from true progression most of the time, and that's fine. This isn't ACTUALLY a Zelda game and you can approach completing areas in basically any order. And I don't see a problem with that. Unless you're a sequence-break autist who needs to feel validated by "playing wrong."

There are two base upgrades that let you store a sidearm for later. One you manually choose and the other is just the last you died with.
>>
>>740608383
Even with its current system, it can easily be compromised with its own design ethos by having an Underlab upgrade that's just a big Sidearm storage, where you have to bring Sidearms into the Underlab to make them unlocked for free use there. Having just two Sidearms for storage, one of which automatically updates by itself so you can accidentally end up with 2 of the same ones stored, is only a little helpful.

just my personal tastes but I like it better than silksong. of course silk song has much more content, but for me that's not a criteria. for me it's about how cleverly the game is designed, and silksong, while it has a lot of "oh shit I'm here now?" moments, it's never particularly surprising from the game design angle. also I didn't like silksongs act 3 much.

I never tried the spider thing but that preserver sucks, you can only get 1 additional tile over so in most cases it won't save you at all, you also take damage when the trinket saves you so if you still fall in the pit you're taking extra damage. Its something I criticized before here, the game is basically a top down platformer with linear stages with collectible coins, where every secret is simply more coins. There's no progression either since there's no dungeon items like zelda, and the upgrades that actually change something (wall dive, longer burrowing and higher jump) aren't needed for anything besides more secret coins.
Most trinkets can't even be considered rewards since they're just quirky chungus binding of isaac tier sidegrades.

Not really, most sidearms are gimmicky crap. The only actual damage dealing sidearm is the axe, and every jump prolonging sidearm becomes useless after you get the wall burrow + longer burrowing trinkets.
After you've done 3 generators you can simply facetank most of the content and don't need trinkets or sidearms for combat at all.

If you think about it a bit more, it's not as bad as it seems.
All of the areas OUTSIDE the city, are improved in one way or another. The bayou is no longer full of poison water. The beach gets mined and all the miners fuck off. The astrologists(?) up in the mirror spaceship finish whatever they were doing and leave for somewhere else.

it's JUST the cushy city that is sperging out because their electricity got shut off or something.

the part where Lionel counts off the crimes or misdeeds you have committed was honestly kino. my suspension of disbelief allowed me to just see it as a gamey thing so I didn't think I was doing anything "wrong", but in a more "grounded" or realistic world like in the Hogwarts Legacy game, it fucking annoyed me how you're meant to just break into people's homes and loot their belongings and they wont bat an eye. hilarious that this game actually dunks on you for this when more "realistic" games don't take it into account whatsoever.

I think it might be the single most broken combo in the game and that's quite the achievement considering the breadth of broken bullshit you're allowed to get away with
you basically become invincible, get a spammable directional nuke, and the window for the counter is like 50 frames so you don't even have to know when you're gonna get hit

>>
>>740588724
Mina is not that hard, bro. You'll die a few times in each area but it eases up as the game progresses.
It felt like I was constantly dying in Silksong and each time I did I resented TC for making such a tedious experience. Mina is the opposite of tedious because the deaths feel fair and the side content isn't bloat.
imo if this game didn't have a GBC aesthetic it would probably be better received than Silksong among younger audiences. It's just a flat out better designed game.

Normal maps.are typically only used in 3D games, sorry

I've been telling /v/ for awhile, this game will be selling most on Switch. Steamchart means fuck-all for gauging units sold anyways on single-player games, as we learned with Dragon Age: Veiflop still selling millions, but not enough millions for EA's sake.
>>
>>740633673
so what will the new cope be now that the game has sold well
>>
>>740633724
Steamchart player counts don't mean shit unless the game is exclusively available on steam. /v/ shitposters don't seem to understand this.
>>
>>740633673
>adventure is just getting started
.....so they are doing post-release updates after all? Was the game missing anything from the Kickstarter? I was under the impression that bugfixes aside, this was a one-and-done so they can get back to other projects immediately.
>>
>>740633730
>new cope
a bold assumption, the game could sell a certified minllion copes and we'll be seeing the same shit
>>
>>740633673
I was never part of the steamchart shit posting but I wonder how it sold that much but barely hit 10k concurrent players in steam. I have to assume it sold 90% of its copies on console.
>>
>>740633730
I have a habit of falling in love with games that also end up selling well. I have some innate skill to avoid chud games I guess.
>>
>>740633840
>I wonder how it sold that much but barely hit 10k concurrent players in steam
Because-
yeah, it sold a lot on other platforms. I'm pretty sure this happened with other games as well, having sold hundreds of thousands of copies yet never broke 10k on steamcharts.
>>
>>740633862
some great ludos out there that sold poorly

Mina isn't even as half as ballbusting unfortunately and I don't find her digging to be as satisfying as Hornet's moveset.

But in terms of initial exploration feels it's pretty damn fun with the surprises.

Yeah there's lots of stuff to find; even at 90% item completion I was still finding new areas that I had missed.
>>
>>740633840
That's usually the case, especially for a low-spec game like this that would benefit from Switch portability or appeals to the Nintendo audience, or games available on multiple PC storefronts. Crossworlds is often shitposted with 3-4 digit playercount steam charts despite the weekend events regularly having 70k+ turnout.
>>
>>740632097
How the fuck did you set that up? I've made over thirty attempts and haven't come close to choraling these little fuckers to get aggro'd toward the umbrella. They just won't fucking do it and kill themselves half the time.

Mina was always a Switch game.
But most trackers estimate Mina to habe already done 200k on Steam so this largely tracks.

Mina has very blatant inverted difficulty. Silksong gets easier around Act 2 too but Mina in particular I found to become a complete joke a few hours in and it doesn't have an "Act 3" equivalent to push your shit in again.

It's exactly the amount they were hoping it'd sell, so it'll likely break 1mil over the course of the year.

Found a better spot. The waterfall area near the smash minigame. The slimes jump out, tank damage and lead them to the left, then when enough of them jump, lay one down. Got it. God that was irritating.

Yes but in a bad way because she killed based Lionel and never paid for her crimes.

Almost got to the 3rd tower, so far Im liking the beach the most. The crow area was the most annoying, the lightning and the air gimmicks were a pain in the ass, the chase sequences got old fast.

>>
>>740636547
Haven't done it yet but JJ doesn't sound THAT horrible as long as you plan it out. Having 2 subs and switching to mist jar spam when things get dicey might be enough depending on the boss.
>>
>>740636547
Joule Junkie's free if one of your sidearms is Mist Jar.
-1% depends on how you were playing before I guess. I had a much worse time with platforming, but I also barely used defensive trinkets so bosses felt about the same as my first playthrough.
>>
>>740622230
what's the meta with the speedrun feat? Does it need to be ng?
>>
>>740637039
Mist Jar doesn't do any damage, how does that even work?

>>740636547
I did Joule Junkie with the knife against Frozen Horror in Coltrane Peak. I picked that boss because it's movement is predictable and is somewhat passive in how it attacks, it can't lunge at you.

Thanks for the tips fellas, now I'm at 44/50. Gonna finish up my first file 100% to get Fully Equipped done. Tip-Tapper is pissing me the fuck off because I know for a fact I heard static on each hit that killed ten consecutive enemies without touching anything else. No candles or bushes as collateral damage.
>>
>>740637239
At lv5 sidearms you can get a second sidearm slot. Parasol+jar lets you get away with a lot.
>>
>>740637239
Mist Jar would be for dodging while you wait for an opening since it makes you invincible and with JS you can spam it forever so the 1HP won't matter as much.
>>
>>740637336
Oh shit, that's right. Why didn't I think of that?

>>
>>740637545
yes you're supposed to use the ingame cheats to skip all the levels and go straight to the judgement scene, you'll have committed no crimes and lionel teams up with you to kill thorne (this is real)

>>
>>740622158
100% agreed, this would be a good improvement. Make the cost "high" just like ALBW, but by the middle of the game such costs are basically trivial
>>740609080
You can use the bike to cross certain gaps that would otherwise require you to use a slot for a specific trinket. Some gaps however require either both the bike and said trinket or the bike and another specific sidearm. iirc there's one that requires all three

Buy it in the Hollower base after rescuing the one Hollower. You can't use it everywhere, only at the underlab
>>740622230
Does NG+ disable them? If it does then I'll hold off. If it doesn't, I'll grab them.
>>
>>740637676
You're not missing anything. That ending is basically a joke and there's nothing new.
>>
>>740635384
Everyone hates Septemburg, but it was by far my favorite part of the game.
>>
>>740638080
Same, probably partly because I did it first so the enemies and Carving Man were actually threatening.
>>
>>740638080
>Everyone hates Septemburg
I liked it. I've played far, FAR worse implementations of "wind that fucks with your platforming", this one was really tame in comparison.
>>
>>740638080
I disliked the marsh, but that's probably because it was easily cheesed with shit you could acquire before-hand, and you're be an idiot not to use said trinkets.
>>
>>740607082
>>740607031
Oh wow I'm retarded I ended up using a mix of wallowing and the teleport bomb to get past that section. I was really wondering how the fuck else it was even possible
>>
>>740638324
those squares with the Xs on them just mean if you burrow on it, you'll fall through
>>
>>740638080
Septemburg was also my favorite. The environments felt pretty different from the rest of the game, it felt more like a journey than a dungeon, and the constantly changing level gimmicks and setpieces made it feel fresh the whole way through. No idea why it gets so much hate.
>>
>>740638315
I think mountain is probably the worst.
like, is it just me or is it really short compared to the other towers.
You have the frozen tundra, a few ice segments one rail segment, then you're on the train.
From there the the level just flies by. the train is cool aesthetically but with almost no side areas the whole ice theme just slides by.
>>
>>740637610
It is actually possible to do it without modifiers, it is just really hard
1. No side quests,
2. No side bosses,
3. Don't do Mock Moon Boss (you can reach Astral Orrery without Bayou mirror),
4. No destroying candles or lamps,
5. Skip the ribbon cutting animation on the orphanage opening
6. Ask the captain to come with you at the start of the game
7. Donate to every single Beggar (4 in Ossex, 3 in Sandfall)
8. Don't ride the train outside of the one trip to Coltraine Peak
9. Don't fish
10. Don't stomp on that leaf in Septemburg that Mina killed
11. Don't interrupt the 2 kids kicking trash in Ossex
12. Sell one thing to the pawn shop
13. Don't talk to the clown at all
>>
>>740638667
Mountain was alright, it definitely felt the shortest but I enjoyed what was there. I just wish it took advantage of its theme more. There should have been more train themed segments and rail grinding and less standard issue video game ice caves with video game ice puzzles. The ice diving mechanic was cool though.
>>
>>740638667
Mountain felt 2/3rd as long as it should have been. Bone had so much love put into it in comparison.
>>
>>740634727
>they're more interested in doing a sequel.
I would prefer that. leave games as a complete experience and move on to the next one. Mina is good as is. Let's instead have a new adventure in a new setting with new mechanics.
>>
>>740638667
There's four boss fights in it, so I suppose they thought it should have less exploration.
