Which PS1 Spyro game is your favorite?
Spyro Team Racing

>>740601830I couldn't get into Spyro but I fucking love Crash.
2. 1 is too simple and 3 has too much guff like the other characters.
>>740601830Which one had the open world?
3>1>2, don't @ me
>>7406018302>3>12 strengths the portal worlds to be individual realities as opposed to just platform worlds like in 1. The third continues the model in 2 but the worlds feel more bland.
>>7406018301It has a magic none of the sequels have
>>7406018302. 1 is boring and 3 is cluttered
>>7406018303 > 1 > 2
>>740601830Speaking of Spyro. Does anyone here watch NotRiptosFather she's a autustuc tomboy lesbian with IBS who plays spyro mods and croc while talking about her dead cousin on YouTube. Seems like someone youbguys would be into.
>>740603295>t. bizarro world anon
>>740601830Year of dragon is best one, most fun and best visual and gameplay.
>>740601830If I had a gun to my head I would concede 1 is probably the best on account of the more complex level design and focused gameplay, but I still like 2 the most. I prefer the more whimsical level environments and enjoy most of the side activities, and imo Spyro just plain doesn't feel complete without swimming. 3's still good, but anything that was annoying in 2 only got worse in the followup.
>>740601830first one. everything about it just works perfectly
>>740601830Hard to convince myself to try them when Rare games and Ratchet and Clank exist. For the time I am sure Spyro was decent
>>740601830I gotta pick spyro 1. Like a lot of people have said before, there's a certain magic to the game's world that never really returned in the following games. I think overall it was a combination of things. The music was good throughout the trilogy, but spyro 1 has no bad songs that come to mind unlike the sequels, and the more restrained soundfont makes everything sound consistent all the way through without becoming grating. The levels were more fun to play because you never had to blue ball yourself and come back later with some gay unlockable ability or character to beat it, you can jump in and 100% it them one go (I think the level design is best in the first game too, the game is less concerned with one-off gimmicks and instead has a handful of powerups that don't deviate far from the design philosophy of spyro and they increasingly push the limits of your understanding of the game each time they appear in a level). And also the world design feels more focused on bringing a new fantasy world to life instead of adding some bizarre settings to levels that don't really match the spirit of the spyro (one example of this I can think of is the contrast between gnorc cove and robotica farms, the former being a total industrial thematic juxtaposition to everything that came before, signifying that spyro is like a fish out of water in the main bad guy's home world (which is expanded on further by the next level; having gnorcs with machine guns) compared to robotica farms having robot bugs as enemies because lol!).I don’t think the following 2 games are bad by any means, but they’re definitely not in my top ten like spyro 1 is.
>>740601830Spyro 3, one of the first games I ever 100%https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NJ-F9uErxK8Spyro 2 had the more memorable commercials thohttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mLqqg56ih8khttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MD6TwVCPINE
>>7406018301 > 3 > 2 but it's not a big gap, I love them all. 1 just has a slight edge in environments to me.
>>7406018303 > 2 > 1 for me
1 is best and no one will convince me otherwise. Then 3 despite the bad minigames. Then 2.All of them are great.Post your favorite PS1 Spyro THINGS (memories, songs, levels, pics, anything)
>>740607007actually i revise this to 3 > 2 = 1
>>740601830For me it's the Spyro 3 demo.Played it dozens and dozens of times.

>>740610226don't worry about it
>>740601830The one where he goes to Subway (Eat Fresh)
>>7406018303 > 2 > 1But for Reignited it's 1 > 2 > 3
>>740601830Year of The DragonSue me
>>7406018301 > 2 > power gap > 3Classic sequelitis where it felt like they were pressured to make every game "bigger" with "more gameplay mechanics" so by the third game it was way too bogged down with random minigames, extra characters, and bloat. First game had great exploration and some fun puzzles, especially supercharges on Tree Tops and Haunted Towers.
I feel like 1 is the best for tonal consistency among the 32 nailed the mechanics, expanding the moveset with hover swim climb and had my personal favorite stages.3 was my personal favorite story wise but the expansion of additional playable characters and harder lean into minigames puts it below 2 imo.I liked 3s boss fights the most. And the tone Spyro had in 2/3 was better delivered by Tom Kenny thanCarlos Alazraqui.
The first one is the only good one.
>>740606801>https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mLqqg56ih8k>we nailed him!they did what now?
>>740601830can't say because I have only cleared 2 and 3 and played a demo of 1
>>740603391what does the IBS have to do with anything
>>7406018301>2>3the only thing 2 doesn't have is moneybags
>>740601830Spyro 1 is the only good one the other 2 suck balls
>>7406018301. The other 2 didn't click with me. I really appreciate the simplicity of the first game. It's an excellent introduction to a 3d platformer for anyone, not really difficult but still has a few challenging stuff.
>>740613841Anon Moneybags is introduced in the first stage of spyro 2
>>7406018301 has the best gameplay and consistency2 has the best plot (kek), levels, and feeling of growth with new mechanics added.3 has the best bosses
>>740612449>>740613998>the only good oneWhy is this opinion so common? The lack of any objectives or real challenge (beyond a few standouts like the Speedways and Tree Tops), even for the bosses. I'd put it as my least favorite of the trilogy, that's even with the missions from YOTD that I don't like, but i'd say all three are good games
>>740614468It's basically just platformer purists.
>>740614468>Why is this opinion so common?Because it's a fact. Are you stupid?
>>7406018301 but 2 hub world wise
>>740614468one has a unique vibe due to the devs not having enough time to add npcs and some people prefer it for that reason.
>>7406144682 and 3 just poorly try to be Banjo (mini games, characters, moveset unlocking) but Spyro 1 was a masterpiece in minimalism and trying to change that just bloated up the formula and made it worse (not to mention they did the whole movesets, characters, mini games things much worse than Rare)
>>740615603Yappers that interrupt gameplay aren't a positive, only the sexy characters are allowed to do that.
>>740615742no one ever thinks of banjo except for banjofags
>>740614468Pure platforming.No gimmicky minigame shit.Zero backtracking.
1Because my Mom used to play that on the PSX and I would watch her playThat and crash bandicoot
>>740615142>Because it's a fact.Nope. Ripto's Rage is the best by a wide margin>inb4 trolley or alchemist (only an issue if ur a dumb baby lol)
>>7406018302 > 1 > 32 is more consistent, 1 has the best level in the series (tree tops), 3 is so boring and formulaic. Every level is the same basic ass loop and the characters suck to play as, the mini games are awful and there's way too many of them.3fags, why?
1. Any other answer is wrong. Most soul. Best vibes. 2 technically has "more," but at the cost of the dreamlike quality of the first. More dialogue and minigames are just jingling keys for babies. 1 is tight and perfect.
>>740614810so people who like playing games rather than crossing out a checklist of busywork like >>740614468
Formulaic isn't bad when the formula is really good. Sex is formulaic and that shit is awesome.
>>740609857the only people complaining that spyro needed a new game are the ones too young and/or retarded to understand that Spyro was a product of its time from a very select group of people and anything new would necessarily be an inferior skinwalker from a corporate conglomerate simply seeking to cash in on nostalgia.
>>7406018302. 3 Went a bit too hard on the minigames and whatnot. 1 has a nice simplicity as it was coming into its own, I only rate it a tiny bit behind 2
>>740616192Spyro 1 is still very much a collectathon where you need to go through and collect all the gems, eggs and free the dragons. Your objectives per level just isn't much deeper than that
I like all three equally, but if I was forced to rank them, it would be3 > 2 > 1
>>740616481at least someone gets it
>>740609857I stopped complaining that spyro needed a new game as soon as reignited came out. Instead my wish changed to "please let spyro die in peace".I should've never asked.

>>740616948why do /v/ faggots think a new game coming out makes existing games worse somehow
>>740617141>why do you care that the overall state of a franchise is worse and worse as more shit gets released to the point where the trash massively outweighs the good stuff? the three (3) twenty five to thirty year old good games will always be thereyes, we should never get more good games, only shit, and it's good because there were good games three decades agohave you thought about what you said for more than 2 seconds?
>>740617470i thought about it but i'm not a fucking retard so i came to a different conclusion than you did.
>>740616948You either die the hero or live long enough to see yourself milked into a soulless nintendo franchise mascot slop.

>>740617657the third one is the best in the remaster too though
>>740616948>love the OG trilogy>also love the remake because it's the same games but with a fresh look>looking forward to the new game because I love the seriesI enjoy not having rancid outrage-culture-driven autism.

>>7406018302 > 3 > 1
>>7406018302>1>3I don't have anything to add that wasnt already said
>>740617903>I am better than you because you have more fun playing video games than I doRare case of actual cope on 4chan
>>740617848Same here, feels good not being a spiteful faggot actively trying to feel miserable. Little worried about how they're going to handle free flight and what that means for the level design, the one on PS3 basically had to put invisible walls everywhere so you couldn't fly over everything, but we'll have to wait and see what they're doing with it.
>>740615742>(not to mention they did the whole movesets, characters, mini games things much worse than Rare)People over exaggerate the amount of backtracking in Spyro 2 and 3, but you do that so much more in the later half of Kazooie and throughout Tooie. Spyro 3's characters having their own secluded areas/levels make them far better. Same goes for the unlockable moves in Spyro 2 and the little backtracking that comes from that compared to Banjo. The minigames just depends on what it is
>>7406176573 has some of my favorite levels in the series but also has the worst side content, NOT counting the skateboarding, that was rad
>>740617848We know you're a tasteless faggot, you don't need to broadcast it all the time.
>>740618019Who are you quoting?
dawn of the dragon>2>3>1
>>740601912this
>>740618194i have never heard anyone mention that game ever. is it actually good?
>>740618356Dawn is really good, especially for co-op.
>>7406018301 is a beautiful game. I've never played 2 and I remember enjoying 3.
>>740618356Dawn of Dragon is kinda best coop couch game ever, you have 2 dragons, each with 4 different powers, but the dragons are chained with magical chain, so you cannot fly away far from your mate.there are lots of exploring on big levels, levels are inspired by LOTR, so you have like plains, forest, evil sauron mountain, defence of minas tirith, and such stuff. there are leveling, bosses, secrets, puzzles, you can choose what power to level up like, fire/ice/acid breath. game is very colorful and fun.it was released on ps2-ps3-wii, i wonder why no one did not rereleased it like, 100 times already.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PkJFmjttL1g
>>740617848I'm just waiting to see more gameplay since the whole open world and free flight thing has me a bit worried over the location variety and level design. I am so fucking sick of the barren BOTW fields, ruins and deserts
>>740617710Not him but I'll spell it out for you. The moment you declare that some arbitrary point in a franchise is the peak and that it's all downhill from there is the moment you no longer have any skin in the game. If there are no longer any games being made it's dead and if there are games being made that you personally see no value in then it's also dead so either result is the exact same as far as you're concerned. So when you go around saying how much you want Crash and Spyro to "die in peace" because everything after the OGs are bad by default, why should anyone take you seriously?
>>740618194>>740618356>>740618387>>740618615Babby's first God of War clone
>>740609857>toxotranny >Retarded Every single time
>>740601830I like 1 the most because you can 100% every level on a first visit, but 2 is probably the best one.
>>740618642And why should anyone even care about the opinion of people that only want subproducts that stretch the fundamentals of the first few games in the first place and replace with something completely different to the point where the original point is completely lost, instead of craving for a new IP.>I want spyro, but not like the old ones, this one has to play different look different sound different but the NAME has to be spyro and a purple dragon has to appear otherwise I won't playIt's your opinion that is completely worthless. Go canibalize something else or ask for a new game. That's how you end with god of war clones and some completely nonsensical shit in your franchise to the point where it's impossible to discern an identity, becuase you won't stop putting shit on top of the fundamentals.

>>740601830all i know is they fucked up the gems flying around after the map is done after the first game
>>740617797Eh, 1 got the best treatment in the remaster. I think toys for bob running out of budget halfway through 2 really shows. Superflaming the bunnies in midday gardens has no satisfaction.
>>740618919Toxotransmosis moment
>>740619014i've done 3 120/100/117% playthroughs on each save file and i honestly haven't noticed any difference in quality between them. in fact 1 is the only one where i encountered a bug (the moving platforms in a couple levels bug out if the fps isn't set to 30).
>>740618864>And why should anyone even care about the opinion of people that only want subproductsBecause we'll be the ones giving them money.>that stretch the fundamentals of the first few games in the first place and replace with something completely different to the point where the original point is completely lost, instead of craving for a new IPDepending on who I talk to and whatever point is the most convenient for the moment, a new game will either be exploiting the nostalgia of the adults who played it as children or it's something that strips away everything that made it special. For Spyro 4 though, this is a completely baseless assertion as platforming was promised to us and the flying could solely take place in a hub for all we know. Hell, there are even gems in the background during the segment where Spyro's running.>It's your opinion that is completely worthless. Go canibalize something else or ask for a new game. That's how you end with god of war clones and some completely nonsensical shit in your franchise to the point where it's impossible to discern an identity, becuase you won't stop putting shit on top of the fundamentals. Some of my favorite games took inspiration from other IPs or drastically changed all together. Rayman 2 and 3 were chasing the trends of the latest 3D platformers and they can be argued to be better than the first game. Paper Mario TTYD added shit to the formula from the first game. You have an insane black and white approach to tampering with the fundamentals when the end result is all that matters.
>>740617848it's true that life is easier when you're a tasteless, low-iq philistine. in a sense you are enviable, but you're still akin to a large, talking dog.

>>740619632Because of course what shows how refined and discerning someone is being an unbearable sperg mule on 4chan.
>>740619497>You have an insane black and white approach to tampering with the fundamentals when the end result is all that matters. The "result" that Toys for Bob have shown so far are Crash 4 and Reignited. Two complete fucking disasters for each respective franchise that universally misunderstand and misrepresent the strong points of each respective series and completely replaces them with some vastly inferior interpretation that's at points outright insulting to long time fans. Now, if you don't have any issue with their games, there's nothing else I can tell you.
>>740619797That's your performative outrage opinion, which isn't shared by the vast majority of people who bought and played the games.

>spyro threadthis seems like a good place to ask. How do you all feel about spyro 4's design? Beyond a nitpick or two(Please give him larger irises and pupils) I think he looks pretty good. Really like how he went from the baby wings to a larger wingspan made for flight exactly like that adult art of him. Great design consistency.

>>740620237It's fine, I guess. I dig the more hair-like appearance of the mohawk, it's something I've seen a lot of fanart do. I still wish he had a proper scale texture like back in the day instead of the splotches.
>That handful of shit taste furfags that defend gremlin spyro.
>>740620907I bet that head gives good head.
>>740620907I don't hate this design after they fixed it up but I won't ever call him spyro. Even tattoo crash didn't deviate that much.
>>7406018302. Just enough added to make it more fun than 1 while not overdoing it like 3.
>>740619687unironically yes
>>740621085Honestly I'd still take your pic related over the Legend of Spyro design from >>740620327. Like even if it's not great-looking, I can respect Skylanders for attempting a full-on redesign of the character, but the one from TLOS just looks like the original Spyro if he had fetal alcohol syndrome or something.
3>2>1, but 2 is a better game and I just don't like how early PS1 1 is.
>>740618356It's spyro as a God of war-like (PS2/PS3 era). It's mainly focused on combat, exploration and athmosphere, with very little platforming (mainly scaling vertical walls). It's great as a co-op game. The game has an amazing soundtrack and spyro is voice acted by Elijah Wood (Frodo).
>>7406018301 is the most fun. 2 is decent. Didn't like 3.
>>740621197You know, at least with Skylanders, you got an actual toy to go along with it that you could use in the game.Nowadays kids are getting scammed by third-worlders for digital shit made with AI slop in Roblox.
don't forget the trilogy is on sale for 9 bucks
>>740611510Even with all the stuff in 3, there's still about the same amount of collectibles achieved through regular gameplay as 2
>>740615742But they're better than BanjoLike way better
>>740620237From the trailer it looks like he's colored closer to the original design now, might be just be lighting, but for example those wings look more like the PS1 coloring than reignited.
>>740616481Why do I get the feeling that you wouldn't have written this post two days ago
>>740617470If you would stop huffing your own 30-year old nostalgia farts you'd realize that both Crash and Spyro's most recent output is the best there's ever been since Universal took over. We're on an upward trajectory. Even if you don't like the remakes or IAT, you can't deny that post-PSX has never been better.
>>740601830Year of the Dragon. Because it was my first game in the series since before that I was still playing on Dendy console
>>740618071I'm hoping that "dragon flight" is just an upgraded glide. It looked like the campfire he lights in the trailer gave him extra lift, and there was a ring in the air too. If maintaining flight depends on managing boosts like that, I think it'll be OK. Might even be a lot of fun if they're going for a more technical focus on movement (based on how difficult Crash 4 was, this is a distinct possibility).
>>740620237I am generally positive about itHis eyebrows feel too big, gives him a bit of a caveman lookThe spine being made to look more like hair, I'm not a fan ofAnd I agree with you about his eyes

>>740627484>because the budget clearly tanks and the staff gets more jeet-infested the further they got in development.I am genuinely pissed off that my personal favorite (3rd game) suffered greatly because of it
>>740627728I haven't played A Hero's TailI like the GBA trilogy (already a somewhat contentious opinion) but even if A Hero's Tail is good, they're firmly a minority of the post-Insomniac output.
>>740628034Season of Ice is complete ass but the other two are decent. And a Hero's tail is an alright Jak and Daxter clone. In any case, the toys for bob games are worthless to me. I already fully completed reignited and crash 4 and I have no interest in touching anything they do ever again. Even if they're less bad than some of the ohter outrageous nonsense, less bad than trash doesn't make it good or desirable. I have zero interest in revisiting them ever again or playing any of their new games, so for me this is far from going upwards. If their output is good enough for you, congratulations I guess.
What is with C-D tier franchise deniers thinking they're safe to dig up and publicly desecrate corpses without everyone giving them weird looks, contain discussion of this shit to your own private sewer dwellings. For the few of you that reproduce, your children will grow to resent your insistence on paying respects to Grandpas degraded muddy sunken headstone. It smells like shit and piss in that section since the groundskeeper uses it a spare bathroom, guys a total mess and his life is falling apart, disgusting. Its pretty depressing really, someone should put the guy out of his misery, probably best to abandon the whole cemetary in truth. Sad and alone you will all die, the last to remember, never able to let go and move on, as the name fades away leaving no trace of its existence and no one to care.
>>740601830The one with the dude lol
>>740628420OK well you're entitled to your opinion but I'm really looking at things from a big picture perspectiveLike I said, I like the GBA trilogy, even Season of Ice, but I can recognize that it's a far cry from the original games' quality.Removing my biases, it's very obvious that the TfB output is the best Spyro's been since the original games.
Started this today, never played it but played Season of Flame as a kid, albeit I remember nothing. Got lost in a level for ages and just felt really stupid. Maybe it's just me.
>>740629693No that's normal, Season of Ice sucks ass. The camera covers too small of an area, none of the levels have any landmarks, and completing objectives teleports you around, it's just incredibly disorienting. The Japanese version actually added in-game maps to make it easier to tell where you are.Season of Flame fixes all those problems.
>>740630308>The Japanese version actually added in-game maps to make it easier to tell where you are.For real?
>>740630513Yeah, it's the same map system that's in season of flame too
>>740601830First one. Sequels added too many retarded mini games.
Spyro 3.5
>>740630551Maybe I'll play the JP version next time I go back to it
>>740630667Spyro 7 actually
>>740630898It could be a Crash 4 situation where they're just retconning the original continuity

>>740629693i genuinely could never beat this game, it is not a good game
Spyro 1 has always been my favorite because I preferred how it leaned more towards Fantasy over Cartoon, had a stellar atmosphere, the collectables were all fantastic and unique, and the level design was no gimmicks all meat.I will concede though Spyro was somehow the only 3D Platformer to do underwater well and it makes me wish that the underwater world in Spyro 1 was able to be finished.
>>740631508its genuinely so bizarre to me that even ratchet and clank does feel as good to swim around in as spyroits even STRANGER that in the remakes they ruined the momentum even though they said they were ripping the code from the original games. its so fucking odd
>>740630667wtf it's real
>>740620237His face looks all fucked upLike the made his jaw way too wide, got rid of his overbite, narrowed his nose a bit and gave him blue eyesI was trying to put my finger on why he looked so fucking barneyfied in the trailer but I didn't get it until running the comparison
>>740632327Who did you mean to reply to and about what?Clearly nothing you said was suppose top be about Spyro here.
up you go
>>740629693Attack of Rhynocs was the only good handheld
>>740620237The eyebrows make him look like a western artist attempt at anime from 2002.
>>7406018301, I like having the hostile homeworlds and the music is better. Feels like a comfy dream
>>740601830Often, people will speak of 2, saying it isn't "watered down" by gimmicks that are present in 3 and after years I finally come to realize that they're wrong. Spyro gameplay is not particularly engaging overall and 3 made the right decision to add more gimmicks and mini-games that freshen up the gameplay experience so you can better enjoy the normal levels as spyro. 3 also has the best art direction overall, a lot of great looking levels that all stand apart more than the previous games.
>>7406018302≥1>3>>>>>trilogy remake>>>>>>>>all the other games
>>7406018301, by far. I don't like the gimmicks of 2 or the other characters of 3. The focus of the first game is far more enjoyable to me
>>740620237Didn't like it at first but for what is supposed to be a teenage Spyro, the design makes a lot more sense. Though I think the inside of his eye should be bigger
>>740601830The first one by far.
>>740636753Spyro was always a teenager he just hasn't had the growth spurt yet. Although Toys for Furfags wants to turn him into bara bait, they know full well they cannot sell that idea from a gameplay and fan perspective. It would be like trying to turn Sonic into Doomguy or have Mario become some Solid Snake analogue.
>>740636373I disagree, Spyro probably has the most enjoyable controls for exploration I've found in a platformer. I find navigating the world and reaching "hidden" parts of levels to be more fun than any mini-game with less refined controls. Despite the pretty solid level design of Spyro 3, all the mini games make me not want to play it, I probably wouldn't enjoy the game today without nostalgia.
>>740630898>Timeline matches release orderUh...okay. Thanks for clearing that up?
1 > 2 > 32 and 3 are good too but man some of those gimmicks fucking suck. Also how you have to revisit levels once you get a new ability/character instead of being able to 100% everything on your first go through
>>740636930>Spyro was always a teenagerSince when nigga
>>740618620Dear god that looks like shit
1>3>2I really don't like 2, I think the art direction sucks.
>trouble with the trolley eh
>>740601830Spyro in the past has had a pretty good track record. Even with that Skylanders thing did well.. The Spyro Reignited Trilogy didn't sell as many copies as Crash N'Sane Trilogy, though. This looks like a reboot to the classic Spyro pre-renders. Someone said "Fuck it! Let's just reboot Spyro and make the character look like the Spyro from the original Playstation series". Right on time for Spyro's 30th anniversary. The original Crash Bandicoot was released in 1996, and nothing for Crash's 30th?
>>740601830none. baby games
