What’s your current Chinese emulation handheld?
Which one are you planning to buy next?
>>
>>740617540
go be brown somewhere else
>>
>>740617540
Are LG phones made in China? If so, LG V60.
>>
>>740617540
Probably RG477V once their next vertical is announced and it comes down in price
>>
if i didnt buy a switch 2, i probably would have bought an AYN thor
>>
I'm good with the RP5, not buying more until these things run Linux proper and ARM Steam is in full swing.
>>
>>740617540
They're just not interesting to me, may as well just emulate on PC at that point.
>>
>>740617540
I bought one of these in my country flea market some months ago but turned out to be of those "bad" clones that you can't even customize because its OS is on the mother card, not the SD card so I threw it into the floor out of rage...several times (in hindsight I should have remove the battery for the actual R36S i got later from china).
>>
>>740617540
I really want to get an AYN Thor but I'm paranoid about the hinge so Im just waiting for more batches
>>
What is a good horizontal handheld that can run PS2 games without any hiccups?

this chunky boy has been my favorite purchase since the steam deck. it runs literally everything I want and it has a massive oled screen. this is the premium DS Nintendo never made

Pic related, it's collecting dust.
I'm not buying more of them.
Playing games on a handheld simply sucks.
>>
went with the rp6 because I don't intend to buy another one until this stops working. not retro or emulated, but I've been playing streets of rage 4 recently.
>>
>>740618479
RP5, RP6, Odin 2 Portal, Odin 3.
>>
>>740618561
I knew about the RG DS and the Thor but I completely forgot this thing existed until now.
>>
The devices that are built to do < gen 5 consoles are mostly scams that haven't really improved in a decade.
>>
>>740617540
retarded stick placement
>>
>>740618479
>>740618708
Unfortunately the RP5/Mini V2 can't run every PS2 game at full speed (most generally do). Any of the other ones like the RP6 and Odin can though. It's up to you whether you want to spend the extra 100-200 dollars or not to get that full coverage
>>
>>740617540
A friend lent me his Analogue Pocket, pretty good for anything that is SNES, GBA and before, really wanna get one but this shit is expensive as fuck, 240 USD, the games look nice on it and it can play your cartridges.
>>
>>740617540
I'm considering getting the Thor because emulating DS games on my phone is nearly as draining as Uma Musume. For whatever reason, PSP games never gave me this problem.
>>
>>740619297
*3DS games.
DS games were okay, actually.
>>
>>740617540
Wow, 2 minutes past the title screen? A new record
>>
>>740619106
Analogue pocket is way too overpowered of a device for those systems, that's why it is so expensive. There is shit that can play those at full speed at $80 or less. Check retrocatalog
>>
I got the anbernic SP and while its more powerful i prefer the old 35xx, its just a better gameboy colour and thats largely what i use it for.
>>
>>740619424
On second look, it is not even a strong device, the company are just scammers. Stick to goretroid, anbernic, magicx and miyoo. Their prices are much more reasonable. Avoid AYN and Ayaneo at all costs

>waiting for Anbernic sale to get 34XXSP

When's next easily pocketable clamshell with Portmaster support and sticks coming out? I don't like Miyoo Flip either.
>>
buy an as, chigger
>>
>>740617540
My ps vita works for me, and I use my pc for heavier duty emulation. I need nothing more than this
>>
Why not just use your phone or a controller with your phone?
>>
>>740619717
Big meme about chinkhelds is redditors loading up Pokemon roms but never actually playing them and only taking a picture of the title screen for reddit upvotes.
>>
The Anbernic RG476H looks cool
Someone have it? Opinions?
>>
>>740620146
Generally I don't want my main communication device having its battery sapped by video games, and phone controllers range between garbage and hideously expensive
>>
>>740620146
phones don't have active cooling so they'll get hot and you'll be damaging the battery. and speaking of battery, phones are useful for more than playing games so I'd rather save the battery for things like gps and looking shit up online when out and about. I guess you could carry around a charging brick but that comes down to personal preference I guess
>>
>>740619842
Just get the 1GB one already before it's all 512MB, that's the baseline for Portmaster anyway.

>>740620146
My phone is a phone, I need it charged, it has a case, I'm not 8 to keep putting and removing plastic garbage on devices not made for it.
>>
I got a Miyoo Flip last year and have really enjoyed it. small enough to be actually portable, decent enough battery life to play for a while without worrying about charging. so far I've used mine to play through some SNES games and Final Fantasy 9.

I definitely recommend using MinUI regardless of which chinkheld you get.
>>
my ps2 recently died after years of faithful service
anybody know any knock offs that do ps2 games?
i really want to play vice city
>>
>>740617540
>What’s your current Chinese emulation handheld?
AYN Thor.
>Which one are you planning to buy next?
Nothing planned currently. I was thinking of getting MagicX one 35 as i like the gimmick of it and the basic idea of it. But partly not sure, if i would properly use it and partly because my money needs to go somewhere more important right now.
If stuffs gets normal priced again maybe a Odin 3 Portal. But again, i think i just stick to one gameheld at a time.
>>
>>740620585
Retroid Pocket 6, AYN Odin 2/3, Konkr Pocket Fit are your best bets
>>
>>740620490
what in the ever loving fuck is that???
>>
>>740621543
Average phone with a telescopic controller.
>>
>>740619424
Thank, which of those do you reccomend? I do want to play GBA and below games mostly, any of those that have similar size and cool filters than don't affect performance? The Analogue's GB filters are what sold me on but it's still quite a high price, I've even considered a modded GBA but those are also expensive and I'd need to get a flashcart which is also pretty expensive.
>>
>>740621873
Anbernic RG35XX and Miyoo Mini Plus are usually what's recommended for weaker systems, and both can be had for <$60.
Fair warning, I didn't like the format since both have a right angled corner on the lower left that can dig into your left palm during extended play sessions.
>>
>>740619562
Damn, but the analogue can play from the cart and do save backups, is the retroid good? worst case I get one and a fucked up cheap NDS to do the dumps (Already have a DS flashcart)
>>
>>740622283
Anbernic is better than retroid pocket? I kinda like the retroid design a bit more.
>>
Recently got my RP6 and enjoying it. Is my first device of this kind. Set up every emulator I wanted and got them running individually but I cannot find a Frontend that works for me. I have tried
>Daijisho
Everything works except PS2. I am using Nether Turnip. First time I ran it, games did boot but I deleted it to try a different Front and now it doesn't work anymore. It gives me a message about needing to kill the previous process to continue, I hit okay but the game doesn't boot anymore. Just a black screen.

>Console Launcher
Liked it a lot but when choosing the players, Nether is not on the supported list. Only Aether. For Switch, it keeps forcing Skyline even I switch to Eden. Booting the game just closes CL and lunches Eden directly.

>Cocoon, Cannoli, Retro Arch
Didn't like the aesthetics

>ES-DE
Paid only. I pirated the kemono build but it's 1 year old and the player list doesn't have most of my emulators.

So I am just playing games without a Front for now.
>>
>>740622413
Retroid has better designs and a better d-pad but it's also more expensive. Since you said GBA and below you should be able to make do with the 4GB model.
>>
>>740617540
Gonna buy a new phone. Which OS do I flash into my old one so I can turn it into a retro handheld? As in, remove ALL of the fucking bloat and make it a dedicated ES-DE machine or something
>>
>>740620146
Because that doesn't make money for the people peddling overpriced junk.
>>
>>740622740
desu I wouldn't go that far, I just installed daijisho on an old foldable and called it a day
>>
>>740617540
I'm still using a steam deck but I've considered one of these small ones just for old gameboy games. I can't really mentally justify another device with less functionality even though some of these look cool

I miss the older school rarer ones these new ones are too damn bulky. Hell, this handheld has two sim card slots, two charging ports, l2 and r2, and is just a bit longer with a flat back. It is also a phone.
>>
>>740623270
I need muh extra frames for N64shit though
>>
ambernic rg34xx running knulli gladiator ii
pretty based
>>
>>740623372
hav an oled deck I used for emulation but these android devices like the ayn portal simply give far more hours and can run shit simpler imo. I do not regret taking my emulators to android, it's great to diversify my devices and give each a purpose
>>
>>740617540
why would i buy this instead of using my gba 3ds psp etc
like you could save that money to buy a good handheld lol
>>
are the android janks easy to set up? the linux ones are pretty chill cause they just boot up into es-de

This person has no idea what he is talking about. What he might be talking about are random noname underground producers who copy the cheapest anbernic devices (ala, WE HAVE A MILLION GAMES WOAH) and advertise them on the internet. Yes, always get them from the big well known and trusted companies, not these random nobodies. They are just trying to make a quick buck off you

>>740621873
You would like the RG34XX, it is an upgraded GBA with a much better and backlit screen. But it's still Linux so you are not restricted to just GBA ofc.

>>740622472
From the fact that you said only nethersx2 isn't working on, it sounds like you never injected a PS2 BIOS for it to use. Retroarch doesn't need BIOS to enulate most of its games, which is why you have no issues there. PS2 emulation is different. No I can't tell you where to get a clean copy, the internet police will come after me, you will have to figure that out yourself.
>>
>>740617540

lol
I just just my cfw 3DS XL
>>
>>740623916
Yes I booted up my retroid and it gives you a checklist of emulators and apps to download.
>>
>>740617939
RP5 G2 and I got a nice orange Chromatic as well. I also got one of those GB flash carts with all the roms loaded on.
Then I removed my bank from Paypal and dipped out on paying anything for any of them. I was already going through a consumer proposal, so I DGAF about my credit at the moment since it was already tanked.
Am I nigger for doing that? Yeah, prolly. I don't feel bad at all though.

man I love how FAT the pixels on the chromatic are. absolutely NOTHING has captured the feel of GBC besides the original. it's like I'm seeing the games through the eyes of my child self again
>>
>>740623949
>This person has no idea what he is talking about
I have been in chinkhelds since they were gookhelds. I have an a320. I know more about them and their history than you ever will. I know where their silicon originated. I know who copied who.

The chink device "upgrade" mill is a scam. It always has been. If you need me to hold your hand through their supply chain I will.
>>
do you install any emulator you want on it or is it preinstalled with a specific one?
>>
>>740617540
Just got and Arc D. Easily the most comfortable one I've used. My final handheld purchase will be something like the RG DS that's strong enough for Melon DS so I can continue to be an autistic faggot and use RetroAchievements for DS games more comfortably
>>
>>740617540
i realized retro gaming is waste of time and just watch porn instead
>>
>>740624382
Chromatic is legit dope AF. I started up GB baseball just to test the system and then an hour later I was still playing.
>>
>>740624423
linux handhelds have emulators preinstalled, and that's why people often recommend custom firmware that has better/newer emulators. for android devices when you set it up you can choose to install some emulators they recommend, or you can just get whatever you want yourself
>>
>>740624382
Another reply, just to show you my childhood collection along with the Chromatic.
>>
>>740624423
It depends on the device. Anbernic sometimes comes with emulators and even knockoff roms. Retroid is usually empty and you start from scratch.

Any one that is available on either the android or linux platform. RetroArch + m64 Plus FZ + nethersx2 + Dolphin. Those 4 will cover pretty much everything up until you get to PS3, which is where you will start to need an expensive and relatively high end handheld
>>
>>740617540
Pocket 5. I dont see a reason for me to "upgrade"
>>
>>740620146
I do and it runs shit like PS2 PSP and PsVita easily
although I only ever play on it when I'm on like trips or some shit and have downtime or on the exercise bike or treadmill, if I can carry around a chinkheld I'd rather carry a phone controller and charging brick
or just play turn based games that don't need quick inputs since doing anything fast on a touch screen sucks shit

I highly doubt he had this, it came out in china in 2015 and was very hard to come by.
>>
My understanding is the AYN Thor is capable of running Steam games native like a Steam Deck would, is this correct??
>>
>>740620252
Good, just know it isn't the strongest device you can get in the same price range and that having the buttons directly above your thumbstick and vice versa is a little odd to get used to, unlike game controllers where there is a 45-60 degree angle for your thumbs

>>
>>740625354
the powerful snapdragon android devices like the thor or odin or retroids can, but with a few major caveats
on android there are two main apps to do it, gamenative and gamehub. some games will work right out of the box, some will require tinkering, some will work fine on some devices but not others, I've had a game work fine out of the box at first but then after a while it wouldn't launch at all and no tinkering could fix it
and then the other way which is still super new is running linux (rocknix) on one of these traditionally android devices and then using steam and arm proton. presumably that'll be the best way in the future, but it's super early and buggy at the moment
I've got a retroid 6, and I've mainly been using gamenative. vampire survivors and baba is you have worked flawlessly. dariusburst chronicle saviors is the one that was working flawlessly at first but then randomly stopped launching. fight'n rage and darkest dungeon were absolutely unplayable no matter the settings I tinkered with. I could get them to launch, but I was getting like 10fps. spec wise neither of those should have been an issue at all, and I wouldn't be surprised if they either currently do or will eventually work just fine with rocknix
>>
>>740625316
maybe not exactly that but it was some kind of phone thing with controls and it was obviously not super useful
>>

gamenative or gamehub. I dont use gamehub cuz I'm forced to trust closed source chinesium tracking while logging in with my steam account. gamenative is working fine so far for me. I have not tried demanding games cuz the screen is too small for most of them. but the 2d games(and some light 3d ones) I have tried work pretty good.

This thing would be the perfect size except the screen is too small to get immersed in most games, playing for longer than 15 minutes rapes your hands, and the dpad requires fixing (as with all Anbernig devices)
>>

No kidding, you literally picked the worst possible layout and ergonomics you could. Buttons are above the stick, and the sticks themselves are shoved far into the corners, with no rounded edges in sight.
>>
>>740628573
Emulation handhelds go out of stock pretty frequently, it is hard to catch up with how many consumers are buying them. Seeing as you picked the device with the biggest online hype train of all time, I am not surprised.

>>
>>740628582
I could simply play those same games on a larger screen, with better performance and fidelity, that's it.
I don't like playing games in short bursts or in public.
>>
>>740629216
it would probably be easier to find a custom decal and apply that to it
>>
>>740629540
>public
It is unironically the number one thing holding handheld gaming from becoming something everyone does. People who game in public pretty much get mocked constantly
>>
I got one so I could play on bed while my little sis plays The Sims on my pc. Its fun.
>>
>>740629780
It's not because I would get mocked, but because someone would not let me focus on a game.
I simply can't concentrate on a game when people are talking, moving around or whatever.
And I'm not talking about in "public" as in public place in general like a park but for more populated places.
