i never hear anything about VR anymore? is it dead again? didnt see anything announced at all this week either.
gabe will save it
It's a VRChat machine now
>>740626482Yeah it's dead. Studios are shuttering left and right and making hasty conversions to flatscreen where they get to fail again a second time. The dumbfucks at Vertigo are making a flatscreen Arizona Sunshine and they're going to find out just how behind the curve they actually are in the grander gaming landscape. Meta gave up and turned off the money faucet. New hardware is choked out by AI spiking component prices.Winter's here, commercial VR withered away. Best case scenario is that it goes into hibernation and becomes the exclusive purview of the modders and hobbyists for a while before potentially re-emerging. Worst case is if supply chains get so mangled that new hardware becomes impossible and this generation of VR dies out completely.
>>740626531that's what you said when the Index was announced.
>>740626843>facebook went all in on the Metaverse changing their name to Meta>it's dead now
Zucc should've just bought VRChat instead of wasting billions on a failed shitty version of it. Still amazed how much of a moneysink that absolute dogshit was.
>play the first descendent!
>>740626843Vertigo shut down last week bro.
>>740627019>ultra wealthy billionaires>can't make any good gameshaha why nigga?
>>740627108Mixtape got a perfect flawless 10/10 score from IGN sweaty.
Another symptom of turdworlditis.
>>740627060Not yet but you're probably not far off. That was one of the satellite studios. The main branch still exists but they're pivoting to flat. This was announced just today. Nobody cares because nobody gives a fuck about Arizona Sunshine. They probably couldn't even get a slot in one of the notE3 shows so they just dumped a trailer to Youtube. Nobody has picked this story up besides tiny VR journo outlets.
>>740626482Was going to reply but >>740626843 told you everything you need to knowVR is a conversion mod/simulator/porn/personal theater machine now. Actual VR games are basically dead.
>>740629092>>740628931>>740626843how is VR porn doing?
>>740627108Because being techbros with a typically retarded Silicon Valley HR department, they paid for the most expensive video game producers with the best resumes. So guess who in the area has the most experience managing the biggest and bloatiest AAA budgets churning out slop hitting all the metrics and numbers out-of-touch tech companies want to see? Fuckin' ex-EA producers. That's right, Meta spent all of their money hiring the worthless loathsome parasites that have been killing video games for decades. It's so easy to burn money and produce nothing when you have no idea what the fuck a regular human being wants or cares about.
>>740626843>The dumbfucks at Vertigo are making a flatscreen Arizona Sunshine and they're going to find out just how behind the curve they actually are in the grander gaming landscapeI find it weird that no one talks about this. Yes, your potential customers for your VR game are those who have VR headsets and are on the lookout for new VR games and haven't closeted it. That's pretty small. But the competition is basically dead and it's a blue ocean like the 80s video game crash. You could drop the super mario bros of VR and it would be noticed easily just because it doesn't have to somehow rise above the ocean of shit that is flat gaming where everyone has too much choice and they learn about a handful of games from their favorite streamer and friends. I couldn't watch all the summer announcement trailers even though I was interested. It was literally hours of trailers spread across many events. People are going to watch the one they think half life 3 will be in and that's it. And 90% Of these games I have no clue because they didn't put enough gameplay in the trailer.
I think the Frame will revitalize VR a bit, but it depends on how much it goes for. Valve needs to release the Frame or drop a price already. Summer isn't magically going to cause the prices to drop.
>>740626482The peak was shortly after CV1 came out but died when Facebook/meta went retarded with their logins system and basically divorcing from PC and going full handheld. a second mini peak happened when the Index and HL alyx came out but it was already over most people already moved on from the hype it had in 2016-2018
>>740629170VR porn is still produced and I haven't noticed a decline, but I still don't like the product. It's still trashy girls that don't look that great from the same POV angles. JAV is still better but it's still censored. Porn that breaks from these patterns is too rare.I don't keep up with the VR porn games, so I don't know. The good news is that 2d to 3d conversion slowly improves and will likely be near perfect in the future. AI is so powerful we could probably reconstruct scenes as 3d gaussian splats and you can go inside worn out VHS porn if you wanted. There's no ceiling on that shit.
I need to wear glasses bro, I can't deal with stupid lenses just to erp (Which I did plenty at sven coop and got that out of my system years ago)
>>740629442I'm not sure I agree. VR has a massive discoverability problem because the standalone market has turned into a mobile-game-esque race-to-the-bottom, and PC VR gets literally no marketing because the audience is too small to justify it. Even as someone actively monitoring new VR releases, I still miss out on tons of them.
>>740629696It's going to start at $1000 and do nothing.
What's the most degenerate thing you've done in VR chat?
>>740626843What's baffling is, why the fuck did Valve make the Frame then? This decline didn't start yesterday. Writings been on the wall for a fucking while. No way in hell they haven't noticed it.
>>740629696I don't think Frame will move the needle at all. It's going to be way more expensive than the Q3, while also having way less games.People will get their Frame, play Alyx, and then realize there's nothing else besides janky mods and shovelware-tier games. It will then become a dust-collector like every other VR headset. The only actual use for VR at this point is VRC gooners and flight/race simmers.I say this as someone that has ad the OG Vive, Index, Q3, PFDMR, and BSB2e. I've wanted VR to be good but the reality is it's nothing but a gimmick right now.
>>740629939it all ends with sex. who the fuck cares faggot?>errr i jerked off and said cum boobie to a 49 yr old man!
>>740629939i shoved a cucumber up my ass and then ate it after on someone elses request.
>>740629863I know there are kids that have these headsets and their search for VR games is never outside the meta store. But you can pick any decent VR youtuber and they play every game that's good because incredibly small library. If anything the problem is they play every game that's just ok and they oversell it because they don't want VR to die. When you get noticed there and people buy your game, you're gonna go up in the meta store too. I don't use it myself but I'm sure blade & sorcery and forefront are easy to find and it would be no thanks to kids that are spoonfed slop by meta recommendations.
>>740630002Valve operates on Valvetime. But I reckon their big angle is twofold: one, they want to try an ARM-Linux based platform for high level strategic positioning. Two, the Frame is tying into their portable strategy. Maybe they're thinking the best form factor for future Decks weren't big tablets but goggles and a compute puck. In either case, I don't think the VR gaming that they pioneered, with tracked 6DOF controllers and stuff, is really top-of-mind at this point. Maybe Gabe thinks we'll have reliable brain-computer interfaces in a few years or something.
>>740626578Yeah only advanced stage 3 AGP troons buy one of these things in 2026.
>>740630002They started working on frame literally right after index was done. They are that slow. This is a hobby job to them. The design is supposed to be a premium quest 3, 3 years after the quest 3. The first half of 2025 looked good, even quest 3 was picking up even though it wasn't as successful as the quest 2. Then end of 2025 had all the rug pulling.
>>740630043there's not even an alyx build for the frame. That's a huge red flag that valve doesn't give a shit about this anymore and they are just moving it because they geared it up for manufacturing and they know it will sell to enough drones and it's not subsidized so they take no hits.
>>740630240The problem is that kids have no money so they're all gonna go download Gorilla Tag and ignore Blade & Sorcery and Forefront.
>>740630043>The only actual use for VR at this point is VRC gooners and flight/race simmers.VR is the ultimate portable but not with frame's shit display and passthrough.
>>740629847how the fuck do you erp in sven coop? isnt that basically half life coop?
>>740630608But those games sell well, so someone is buying them. I hear a lot of pre puberty on forefront myself. Also a kid with money can't buy a flat a game either. They are just non factor in the equation. But I see what you mean if the point is active quest 3 user =/= potential customer of good game.

>>740629817any scene with alex coal or the JAV / pov japanese foot fetish shit is insane in vr it just sounds like you just need to find better stuff.
>>740634374>purposefully hang out with 4chan anons>it never ends well>its always drama or retardationmaybe dont hang out with 4channers.
>>740634374this never happened
It became synonymous with android shovelware. It will not be missed
>>740634498I agree alex coalburner and foot fetishes are clinically insane
>>740626482Yes basically dead until the next big Valve game. It could see a resurgence if they figure out touch/grip-simulating tethered hand controllers and implement that properly. The features in the most recent lineup of headsets were all gimmicks. There wasn't anything to amp-up the VR experience despite all the sensational videos claiming otherwise. In the case of Quest 3 the controllers actually got worse in my experience.
