Is it true that gaming almost died because this game was so dogshit and then Nintendo saved gaming by introducing the "Nintendo seal of quality" to signal that their products were high quality lol.

Impressive, very nice. Let's see Paul Allen's video game

Is it true that people only think this game is bad because they don't really know how to play it?

No. Gaming died for a few years because not many people knew how to code a decent video game that could run well on only a couple kb of memory, so everyone started copying each other's games and it fragmented the sales so much it became hard for any one company to profit off.

Plus some companies were stupid and tried to turn their consoles into PCs and enter the PC making business instead of trusting the plan and ended up killing themselves because nobody was asking for that.

not just E.T.
gaming almost died because people were tired of buying overpriced, overhyped and cheaply made dogshit games such as E.T. or Pac Man 2600
a modern equivalent would be if GTA VI releases and ends up being a buggy, piece of shit at launch, followed shortly after by a Mario game that ends up launching in a similar state

>but if you follow the guide it makes sense!!!

Fun fact, OP's PNG is 3KB larger than ET's game cartridge.

There was no precedent in those days that a game should be self explanatory and not require any instructions or a manual. Look at Indiana Jones, that game was just as confusing without a manual and it got amazing reviews when it came out.

u sure

I dont think so. Guy had 2 months to make it and it was broken at launch with no patching to fix it. Absolute brain child of a marketer who knew video games were big, and ET was big, so lets rush anything out to capture that.

No the game legitimately fucking sucks, even when knowing how to reduce fall damage, which the manual only briefly hints at in the back and never explains
>Remember, floating in and out of wells costs energy.
>floating in and out
>floating in
Bullshit-ass bullshit

It's all right
The main problem is that floating back out of pits gets old
