Is it really impossible to make a sequel to this game, or has Nintendo never really tried?

Star Fox 2

Star Fox Adventures, Assault and Command are all sequels to Star Fox 64.

Star Fox fans got a little too full of themselves thinking they were a major IP (lol), so now they're condemned to relive the Lylat Wars for the rest of time.

Star Fox Adventures is a different game with a Star Fox reskin mod.

Its still canon and happens after 64, so its a sequel. This sort of hoity-toity behavior is why you're getting SF64 Remake 3.

Shut the FUCK up and know your place.

ntsa but are you including SF643D or Star Fox Zero?

They don't know how to make a sequel because they don't know how to make an entertaining rail shooter. Not that I could blame them, the genre is dead, like many other arcade-adjacent genres, because people don't want a piecemeal endlessly replayable skill-based game.
They really should've just turned this series into an Ace Combat clone with a space bend, but I guess this never occurred to them, except for a few missions in Star Fox Assault.
>remove the on-rails sections, allow free flight on all levels
>add various objectives like bombing runs, escort missions, trench runs, etc.
>add a variety of planes that aren't just the Star Fox itself
>add a variety of weapons
>add challenges and collectibles for replayability
>add a story mode that actually tells to tell a decent story, even if it becomes a Gundam parody
That's how you make something that actually sells.

Assault was the closest thing to a real attempt.

Assault is alright if it was just a bit longer, and remove the riding on Falco/Wolf's wing with a turret sections.

Zero was doomed to fail for two reasons
>Wii U
>Shoehorned gimmick controls

>>740638990
Assault got the closest IMO.
>>
>>740638990
they have the same problem Sonic has where they mix it up too much or change too many things when in reality fans just want the same old shit with new levels
>>
>>740640003
worth playing though or hard pass? I dont have a WiiU
>>
I think they gave up on Star Fox when Star Wars games started getting good.

Star Wars Rogue Leader is pretty much how they would do a next gen Star Fox if they could, but it was already too late for them to try.

This image pisses me off. Why bother drawing all the stained glass lines for the background if you're just gonna overlay a texture on top of the character? Those cut lines make no sense? Ruined

As far as games and replayablilty goes, its what i'd consider a "perfect" game.

Obviously this is subjective, but its really hard to make a sequel that isn't basically exactly the same or too diffferent that would upset people.

Personally the megaman formula worked for me for years so i'm really not sure why they can't just do very incremental changes and keep their audience.

I think the pic could have been elevated a lot higher if they leaned into the full stained glass aesthetic.

Even disregarding the need to use cockpit view and gyro aiming, Zero is still a bad game without considering them:
-Less enemies on-screen than 64.
-Every single boss fight is in All-Range mode, even if it would be a better idea for some of them - such as the Assault Carrier returning - to be on rails. This leads to a similar pattern of having to take some shots at the boss, turn away from it, and then U-Turn to take a few more shots at it. In general the boss fights in Zero just are not fun.
-Gryowing is the worst, and its obsolete compared to Arwing+Walker mode - to the point one of the extra stages is to play the Gyrowing mission with the Arwing.
-The "alternate paths" are only available after clearing the intended story route, and except for one new mission they are lazily rehashed content. Most are accessible by using a transformation you didn't have on your first pass of the level, or just locking onto a Star Wolf member that now randomly shows up mid-level.

Does not help that the general story is all rehashed and the one thing the anime short hinted at with there being something more to it with the "teleporter" gimmick Andross has it ended up being a nothing burger.

What do you mean, we've had at least three different sequels that weren't remakes or remasters of the SNES/64 formula. Four if you want to count Star Fox 2 as a post-64 game given it didn't officially release until 2017.

>Adventures
Zelda clone with a fox skin

>Assault
Multiplayer arena game with on rails segments tacked on late in development

>Command
Shovelware strategy game

>Zero
Closest, but shoots itself in the foot with waggle gimmicks and chicken walker/gyrocopter shit that again shows they don't want to make a.rail.shooter

Anon, the game already is already lacking in the rail shooting department as is, we don't really need to remove what little is there
