So I got a few questions about the ending twist now that I finished it
- So Phi was in on it the whole time? Or is there another explanation for how she didn't know they were on the moon 50 years later?
- Why didn't Dio tell anyone?
- Why are Alice and Clover so chill about having their lives essentially erased?
- How do the logistics of K work? He's meant to replace Sigma, but he doesn't seem to have the same time jumping capabilities, and even if he did wouldn't he just go back to his own past rather than Sigma's?
- Doesn't the fact that Akane has knowledge of the future (presumably from Future Sigma in the past) imply that this is a closed time loop and they always fail?

>- So Phi was in on it the whole time?
no
>Or is there another explanation for how she didn't know they were on the moon 50 years later?
same as clover and alice and everyone else who was abducted young
>- Why didn't Dio tell anyone?
he's a cunt and he was planning on killing them all anyway
>- Why are Alice and Clover so chill about having their lives essentially erased?
bad writing
>- How do the logistics of K work? He's meant to replace Sigma, but he doesn't seem to have the same time jumping capabilities,
he does
> and even if he did wouldn't he just go back to his own past rather than Sigma's?
yes, he's not a substitute for sigma, just a plan b
>- Doesn't the fact that Akane has knowledge of the future (presumably from Future Sigma in the past) imply that this is a closed time loop and they always fail?
no, zero escape is a multiverse. Akane has knowledge from one possible future
>>
>>740657615
twist for the sake of having a twist, anything that could compromise is simply not addressed
might as well ask how sigma has never scratched his nose or looked into any halfway reflective surface
>but i want to engage with the plot earnestly and use diegetic reasoning!
lmao

>So Phi was in on it the whole time? Or is there another explanation for how she didn't know they were on the moon 50 years later?
Phi was as "in on it" as Sigma was, which is to say she had no idea what was happening when she got kidnapped in 2028, and then her consciousness skipped ahead to the start of the Nonary Game like his
> Why didn't Dio tell anyone?
His orders were to try to win the Nonary Game, or blow up the facility if something went wrong. Telling everyone they were on the Moon wouldn't really contribute to either goal, and if anything it would just make people suspicious of him
> Why are Alice and Clover so chill about having their lives essentially erased?
I imagine they express their anger in between Sigma being stabbed and "Kyle" regaining consciousness, but ultimately there isn't much they can do about it. Maybe Akane's solution relating to Schrodinger's Cat has something to do with it, but we'll never know
> How do the logistics of K work? He's meant to replace Sigma, but he doesn't seem to have the same time jumping capabilities, and even if he did wouldn't he just go back to his own past rather than Sigma's?
I'm not really sure about the "replacement" bit to be honest, maybe K was just mistaken in thinking that or Sigma/Akane lied to him
I think he has the potential to jump, but maybe his power is being absorbed by Sigma and Phi (like Clover and Junpei)
> Doesn't the fact that Akane has knowledge of the future (presumably from Future Sigma in the past) imply that this is a closed time loop and they always fail?
It implies that there is at least one timeline where Phi and Sigma fail at the Mars mission test site, which completes the loop; there are hopefully other timelines where they succeed and the pandemic is prevented

That being said, did you see the extra chapter after Sigma goes back in time to witness the reactor explosion? If I recall correctly, it needs to be unlocked by getting all of the gold files

>no, zero escape is a multiverse. Akane has knowledge from one possible future
Note that this is a retcon from 999 where Akane glimpsed other timelines from the past but already existed in the present as if only one "real" timeline ever existed.
>>
>>740658134
>same as clover and alice and everyone else who was abducted young
but Akane says she volunteers (I'm assuming she's the girl Sigma saves in the past mission)
>yes, he's not a substitute for sigma, just a plan b
But what's the plan B? He can't go back to vefore Radical-6
>no, zero escape is a multiverse. Akane has knowledge from one possible future
Maybe I just misunderstood both games but they both seem to be operating on closed time loop rules, the events of neither game are possible without the future of those events having already happened and affected the past somehow.
>>
>>740658265
eh, arguable. Other timelines existing pretty is the same as being a multiverse, you're just nitpicking if the other timelines exist in parallel or collapse when they're not chosen in the "real" timeline. Either way, VLR retcons a lot in 999 and ZTD retcons a lot in both previous games, so arguing about one specific person is rather moot

>>740658313
>but Akane says she volunteers (I'm assuming she's the girl Sigma saves in the past mission)
her future-self-who-went-back-in-time volunteers to have her clueless younger self abducted
>But what's the plan B? He can't go back to vefore Radical-6
not really explained
>Maybe I just misunderstood both games but they both seem to be operating on closed time loop rules, the events of neither game are possible without the future of those events having already happened and affected the past somehow.
The events of both games' "true" endings rely on all other possible timelines existing and the protagonist gathering information from all of them. The multiverse is explicitly required for the plot to work. VLR itself makes multiple allusions to this, with schrodinger's cat, the rhizome and the golem stories
>>
>>740658313
>but Akane says she volunteers (I'm assuming she's the girl Sigma saves in the past mission)
I don't remember how much Akane knows about the Mars mission test during the scene when she says that, but the woman Sigma saved isn't Akane
>they both seem to be operating on closed time loop rules
VLR doesn't operate on closed time loops at all
999 does in the sense that Akane randomly disappears if the time loop isn't completed. maybe it's because she's the only one that knows what the future is supposed to look like?
it's inconsistent
>>
>>740658527
>her future-self-who-went-back-in-time volunteers to have her clueless younger self abducted
OHHHH ok, this also explains why they needed Phi to learn how to jump, that went completely over my head.
>>
>>740658621
I know it's not Akane, I meant he probably saved Phi since there's no other reason for her to be relevant otherwise (that said after looking at ZTD's cast the girl who looks exactly like Luna is probably a candidate as well lol)
>>
>>740659112
yeah I misread your post, the woman Akane mentions him saving isn't Phi either
