I know people are going to call me a fag or nigger worshipper for explaining this but this is a fact about music applicable to any number of albums you're not familiar with. It's more likely an album WON'T immediately click with you as "I want to listen to this again and again" on first listen rather than immediately going "holy shit this is crack". If you want immediate "wow" from an album you're basically looking for pop, but then you're listening to pop. I think Kendrick is overplayed at this point but he is very talented. I think DAMN is especially overplayed and that might be because that project is less narrative or "heavy" than TPAB or GMKC. You might try Good Kid MADD City, that one clicked faster for me. What you'll notice on that one is how real and often cynical and negative he is about the gang & poverty culture of the black majority areas he grew up in.
