i recall input lag being an issue on the gba one, had to mess with some settings to get it right. all the others i played on real hardware
>>

I beated them all in emulators and suck at rhythm games, so probably not an issue.
>>
>>740683473
FUCK YOU
>>
>>740683896
they usually have 50 stages so i guess
>>
>>740672620
It looks good but a lot of the games seem pretty much identical to previous rhythm heaven games only with different visuals. Same with a lot of the music.
I guess you can only do so much with such a simple rhythm concept.
But I dunno if I need to buy this when I already have Megamix on the 3DS.
Guess it depends on the pricing.
>>
>>740683896
Yes, the others generally had around 50 or 60 games in them.
>>
>>740672620
Nintendo didn't hire Minus8 to make the script.

Hold the phone how the fuck? I can't get my RHDS to sync up at all?
I tried so many different options but despite being able to perfect this easily on hardware 10 years ago, I can't even pass it now because of emulation settings. I don't know it's it's audio lag or input lag or the rendering is wrong or just why it's so hard to get it right
Seriously how the fuck?

I actually also had played and finished rhythm heaven on drastic DS emulator but all my timings felt off when playing on a real DS, input lag is real. You need to adapt a bit but for games like lockstep, the shoot em up and marshstomp it's extremely noticeable
>>
>>740686456
Yeah Drastic is exactly what I'm using
It's feels so weird
>>
>>740683535
ds emulators are horrible for input lag, at least the mainstream options. I have one of those shitty ds emulation devices and anything with precise timings is impossible like elite beat agents and rhythm heaven. I have an original ds too, they play fine on there so it's not just a skill issue
Maybe it's just a desmume thing, maybe it's the something about the chinkheld hardware. I'd guess it's both. Either way ds lites and 500 in 1 game carts (they're literally just r4s) are cheap so ds emulation is kind of pointless

This will be my first Rhythm Heaven. I’m excited for it. Which should I emulate to get into the series?
>>
>>740716164
They're all fairly short (except Megamix's long fucking story mode) so I'd say play them all. But if I had to choose one, Fever is the most consistently great game in the series.
>>
>>740716164
I second what the other anon said. Fever is what put the franchize in the spotlight, and for a very good reason.
I personally find Megamix to be a bit underrated. The minigame selection is great and it has a ton of remastered content, so I'd recommend going for it as a second game. However, going for the DS game instead is also valid as it establishes a lot of themes that became recurring after the early installment weirdness that was the first game if you're willing to deal with FUCKING Moai Doo-Wop

The first game, Rhythm Tengoku, should be the last entry you play. Not because it's bad it kinda is though, but because it's HARD

I understand the ire Megamix gets, especially given just how damn good its predecessors are, but I wouldn’t say it’s a bad game. Core gameplay’s still the same and while it features stuff from previous entries it also has some new things of its own. It’s still worth a play, all of them are
It unfortunately suffers from the fact that since the others are better it gets maligned as a bad game for not measuring up, even if it’s still fine. Other example i’d point to is rayman legends; not as good as origins, but it’s still a damn good game. But since it came out on bottom, everyone labels it as shit
>>740710856
>>scoring system and skill stars from Megamix are gone
Not surprised, only reason they were able to get away with it on 3ds was cause of the bottom screen where they were places. Wouldn’t’ve really been able to add them without having to add their visuals on-screen which would’ve been kinda distracting. Didn’t care much for them anyway, especially the scoring system which had me stressing over making sure my inputs were perfect

DS - Remix 8. It starts out pretty hard, and then it transition into fucking lockstep, and you're like "aw fuck, shit's getting real." The speedup near the end is so thrilling.

The first Fan Club I remember replaying a lot and I liked that I could spam clap at the end to cheer for her and mess it up while having the other monkeys glare at you.
In Fever, I really liked the Baseball one. If you do it perfect the batter man starts taunting the pitching girl and makes her really mad, which is fun.
And I also haven’t played the 3DS one since it was download only.

Eh the other "non-metronome" cues are just metronomes where you're not pressing all the time. Like tongue lashing, you can just tap on the beat as much as you want and beat it. Hole in one too, I don't think it's a meaningful enough distinction, really does boil down to cue and copy. And then a lot of the cue games would just become metronome anyway, frog hop is a metronome, flip flop, rhythm rally,

ah this doesnt matter

How many unique games do you think this game has before it gets to the sequels?
Usually it's between 25-30, but since there's 80 levels this time rather than the usual 50 there could be 40-50 unique games there.
>>
>>740707229
you can probably just play with a controller in both hands again like you could on the wii
>>
>>740747923
Assume that the co-op's 30 levels are part of the 80 they mentioned that leaves 50 singleplayer games. So I assume it'll be about 35 unique minigames + remixes and then 15 sequels.
>>
>>740747414
I think of those kinds of games as marches because the first instance was the marching game in Tengoku. I'd say it's fair to count them as their own category because maintaining a beat is its own kind of challenge that's different from reacting to cues or memorizing sequences. The best games like Tap Troupe and Lockstep are about deviating from a main rhythm and trying to get back to it.

>>
>>740764134
Monkey Watch is still one of the trickier ones cause you gotta keep a consistent beat, but I think I got a stronger sense of rhythm than most so it didn't take long for it to click for me. Offbeat on the other hand, fuck me...

I haven't played Silver but it does look tricky, though I wouldn't say it's two rhythms as both tracks are 4/4, just with the occasional offbeat note. I guess if you like to do body percussion or finger drumming it might come easier to you

>>740765253
lockstep is extremely easy if you use two hands to keep the rhythm

try it on yourself. Play the song, and tap the rhythm with just one hand, and you'll notice how it feels a bit odd when it swaps.
Then start over but this time tap the rhythm with both hands.
>>
>>740765321

I've played tengoku on emulator and real hardware and it's night and day, you can complete it but it's an order of magnitude harder. If you don't have a GBA and flash cart, running it on 3ds as a virtual console inject is your best option, and of course the 3ds also runs DS and Megamix natively.

It's the thick black round lines for me. Makes me think of Flash animations. Simple artstyles look the best for me when they're more angular. This just looks like it's emulating the old hardware limitations (which it basically is). Also, the grayish brown (or brownish gray) skintone that is somehow very prevalent in Japanese games these days looks very unappealing to me.

DJ YOSHITAKA as the new head for Konami's arcade branch has been an incredible boon, we finally got genres back for new songs and new character arts for rival characters that are not the nth reskin of old characters except the version's Mimi/Nyami all over again
