How are we feeling about the game after playing the demo? I'm even more hyped than I was. Mouse mode is surprisingly responsive as well

Seems great

What the fuck were you expecting from a remake of Star Fox 64, retard?

The Meteo warp looked cool enough, I had fun. It felt easier to aim in first person even without mouse controls. I also heard you're not able to store charged shots and fire them straight, which resulted in more points in the original or something, can you do that in this?

the two camps of starfox fans
>dickriding nintentards
>jaded doomer
metroid progressed it's story with dread but starfox is still stuck in a time loop for 3 decades. and people want you to be excited? for what? are they gonna spend 7 years remaking adventures and assault before we get a real sequel. nah this will die and when miyamoto retires we'll get no star fox ever again

The voice acting is so fucking awful, and a lot of lines are not as snappy for the sake of them getting new voices. Half of the appeal in 64 were the voices being so distinct that even a simple boss you kill in 5 seconds is memorable. Now they all sound so fucking generic, like they aren't even trying.
>>
>>740705356
The rumor, from the same leaker as this and OoT, is there is another game being developed that's more of an adventure game, so this remake is clearly just reestablishing the IP before that comes out
>>
So the developers are Velan Studios, I dunno anything about them though.

Good
>ending of the training sequence was cute
>the great fox scenes are good
>there’s more banter between characters in missions
>the game still feels nice to play, mechanically
>full rebinds are in
>mouse controls are alright, only tried them for a bit
Bad
>new voices are whatever, especially Rob 64. Peppy sounds off too.
>rewrites of already existing lines sound way worse, Fox doesn’t say “Sorry to jet, but I’m in a hurry” anymore it’s a way worse line even though it conveys the same thing
>lasers, bombs, and charge shots don’t have much impact anymore. Bombs especially, on N64 bombs felt awesome with that BWAAAAAAAAUUHHHH sound effect but that’s gone
>warp zone is nice but looks completely different, looks more like a standard wormhole area
>hold A to skip cutscene instead of + which is just pause, I hate when games do that
>mission complete/accomplished text is way lamer this time
>Expert ISN’T UNLOCKED FROM THE BEGINNING which was shown in treehouse, but it’s not in this demo either. Yes this was a problem with the original but the Star Fox Direct made me and many others think it was unlocked by default because they made it a point to showcase it in that direct.
>>
>>740706018
I'm not even a big Star Fox fan. I played them as a kid, but the last game in the series I own is Adventures on the gamecube
>>
>>740702474
All the trailer footage so far made it look like the game was going to be very unreadable with all the modern visuals, but actually playing it, it was pretty sharp. Taking advantage of HDR definitely helps.
Mouse controls are interesting and I could probably get used to them. I just wish movement and aiming were decoupled, but I guess then we'd be right back to Star Fox Zero.

Well do you think it's more than half or less than half? Because the gameplay still holds up and the best thing that the remake has going for it is the bones of 64 being incredibly solid.
>>
>>740706275
To be fair the Japanese version also changed some dialogue
>>
Are the movement and controls actually the same as the original? All I care about is if they fucked up the gameplay.

1. I hate how the characters look. Especially Slippy.
2. It's just a Starfox 64 remake. Make a new fucking game.
Other than that it looks fine. Starfox 64 was good, so it should be fine.

Jeez, just replace the word monkey with something else if you were worried about the fantastical animal racism, but don't take away Falco's sass
>>
>>740708514
What Star Fox games are you a fan of then?
>>
>>740702474
One thing I just thought about: Starfox 64 was the flagship game for the N64 rumble pak, and the rumble in that game is fucking awesome. You fire off a bomb and it feels like your hands are gonna fall off. The "HD" rumble in this new version is okay, but it's more like background effects than the bombastic shaking of the original. There's some neat things like the controller lightly pulsing on the left or right side if you break a wing, but overall it's far subdued from the original.
>>
>>740708831
Legend of Krystal
>>
>>740709021
Should be an option for more n64 like rumble. I understand why its not default since its a handheld game

>>740706087
I noticed the lack of OOMPH on explosions since the first trailer and it pissed me off. same reason I dropped assault in the middle of the first fucking mission, if the space battles lack weight I'm OUT
>>
I still think it's ugly as fuck. Also something about the controls feel floaty or sluggish to me compared to the original
>>
This might be an autistic nitpick, but I miss the follow-up explosion after Fox's quip at the Meteo Crusher. It added an extra, subtle layer of emotional punctuation to the battle and gave you that satisfying feeling of "Ha ha, take that bitch!" Now the feeling is like, "Yeah, you got beat, whatever, time to move on". I really hope the Macbeth supply depot explosion is still unchanged.
>>
>>740706275
Wait, is it actually? If so I actually really like this new dialogue.
>>
>>740710608
I thought it was pretty great looking in action. Do you just mean the new character models? They are growing on me.
>>
>the gameplay which is uncchanged besides some minor QoL/control options, is good

Played the tutorial once and the Meteo twice, doing both paths in the latter.

Visuals are very cool so far. Music is top fucking notch and hits the nostalgia like a truck on the menu screen. New dialogue is like 90% good, though a lot of the lines that are directly taken from the older games I'll need to get used to the delivery for (especially the Meteo boss guy, I don't like his delivery as much as the original). I like the idea of the cutscenes responding to you taking hidden or special routes.

My only real complaint is that they felt the need to add dialogue during the warp sequence, and quippy dialogue at that. Feels like those sequences were meant to be awe inspiring in the original and it being the only time there was no dialogue added to that. Made them feel otherworldly. Hearing the crew say shit like "They didn't teach us this at the academy" during it feels lame.

Overall very happy.
>>
hopefull version at least 7/10 and has good sales.

>>
>>740702474

>>740710889
I just don't see the appeal. If this was the first time SF64 was officially rereleased there'd at least be some novelty with the portability. What is there to get excited about?
>>
>>740711228
>They're through the second line!
>>
The voices are acceptable and even the lines are fine, the problem is the delivery sucks
Think about the classic line
>I can't believe I lost to this scum!
He's fucking seething with outrage and by the end of the sentence he's in anguish
He goes through an emotional range in one fucking line
Think about the opening Corneria sequence from the trailers vs OG 64
Think about how much personality is established in one short line
The delivery was ridiculously excessive but it was fucking fun
I feel half of the people reading this could do better deliveries just by being excessively hammy
>>
>>740711968
It sounds like standard flat shit anime dub acting. I hate it. It's even worse than the Switch Zelda game dubs.
>>
>>740711660
Considering what they did to the character designs, why would anyone even want her in this game? So they can turn her into a meth addict like they did with Katt?

I recently did a playthrough of all 64's routes (no medals, though) for the first time so I could compare the two. Going to be interesting to see how I feel about the script changes.
>>
Yippee, another remake of a reboot. I'm so excited.
>>
Was pretty nice, I'll probably pick it up since 5000 yen isn't much.

I do miss the sound effect of lasers being deflected by the barrel roll instead of being absorbed like in this version though.

Falco also talks about not trusting a monkey in the Japanese version, so they changed that too.

Granted Falco is more rough in dialogue in other places, telling Peppy to shut up and stuff.
>>

I want to see more language comparisons, I watched the small Treehouse clip where they compared the voices and spanish Fox sounded so good.
>>

>>
>>740714453
I'm playing in Italian and they all kept the same voices from 64 3D. There was no Italian VA in the N64 version so 3D was the "original" for it. They're really good, here's the prologue if you want to listen: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tLU59kLB4XI
>>
64 purists won, krystal lost
>>
Think everyone become super racist towards monkeys due to Andross's actions, or were they always like that which led to him being banished to begin with?
>>
>>740705727
Former Vicarious Visions devs. They were making a 3D Donkey Kong game during the Wii U era but Activision backed out and canceled it. Then they made the Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy but despite its massive success Activision canned their original projects so part of the team left to form Velan Studios, which made Mario Kart Live Home Circuit and now this. They know their cartoon animal mascots.
>>
>>740702474
>the nostalgia blinded faggots pretending the 3 second voice lines and compressed low quality voice lines and delivery from the original is actually better

The original barely had any voice acting and it sounded like fucking shit

amen to that broseph

> He's fucking seething with outrage and by the end of the sentence he's in anguish

> I want to see more language comparisons

in the demo in the audio menu you can cycle through them and it plays an example voice sample, small feel of it

>IT GOT REMADE ON 3DS ITS JUST SAME GAME
true. But this also applies to Snake Eater and OoT

I get that with Star Fox 64, it borrowed a lot of plot from its SNES predecessor, but this isn't uncommon in gaming. FZero X and GX are functionally the same plotwise, Metal Gear Solid borrows a shit ton of stuff from Metal Gear 1 and 2. Super Metroid is like a reboot to Metroid, but is also canon to Metroid, but then Metroid 1 got remade for GBA.

Castlevania 1 got remade a ton of times, Dragon Quest got remade at least 5 times

>but starfox Zero
don't care, didn't play it, neither did any of you

I don't even like remakes but I feel like the normie twitter retards keep parroting that its a remake like that is somehow unique to Starfox. rant over

the Demo felt great and I am way more excited now than I was before. I just want to play more and see all the little cutscenes. Excited for June 25th
>>
>>740702474

Starfox Zero wasn't even a remake, anyone calling it one is just admitting that they never looked it at let alone played it. Half its missions weren't in 64.
That said, Zero's original missions have bad level design and isn't really worth playing even if you're willing to get used to its unique control scheme.

No, you're correct, they added a ton to those moments. Meteo is basically a perfect level, the new version changes a lot of what made it so good. I also don't know why it's green????

Not just former devs, but both co founders as well. They were fed up with Activision’s bullshit and left so they can have the freedom to make what they want to make. The co founders especially have a very good relationship with Nintendo, and more than likely got the green light as a result despite Velan not being too well known.

The warp segments in the original had no dialogue intentionally because it makes them the only time in the game there's no dialogue and makes that moment feel completely tonally different.

That's lost the moment Fox and co. start joking about the academy.

Fox has Chris O'Donnell face and it's funny to think of him as secretly a bit of a proud-but-pitiful wagie/fatass (who actually is generally smarter/healthier than he seems but is stuck in his place), considering his canon personality. On one side, it resonates with a lot of anons, and on the other, it's a subtly clever juxtaposition with him being an unflappable hotshot in the actual games and a whiny, uptight prodigy in a lot of fanon.

There's a couple Landmaster tank missions and one Blue Marine underwater mission, but in general the game is a rail shooter, there's no bigger depth to it besides scoring and three routes that can criss cross a bit as you try to get the Hard ending and each level's medal. If you're not up for simplicity, you don't spend the $40.

It's also way smaller on the screen. The Crusher is supposed to be this overwhelmingly massive thing looming over you, so that its attacks seem almost impossible to escape.

I can't be certain, but I feel a lot of that is simply due to the field of view being wider. Net positive so you can see everything coming at you in rail segments, and more around you in All-Range, but leads to things designed to be front and center not appearing as large as before.
>>
>>740747663

>>
Controversial opinion, but I think the new voice lines are by and large well delivered. The old ones do not hit anywhere near the same with this new direction, but the totally new stuff works for me. Still not exactly the biggest plus in the world, though, I'm fine with SF not being story heavy.
>>
>>740747947

>>
Cutscene for each level transition is pretty cool. That's more work than I thought they'd put in.
>>
>>740748503
I mean all things considered people are a bit overreactive to it because it's having to replace perfectly fine if cheesy old line reads. Folks will argue that even taking the compression filter off the old voice acting ruins it because the charm lied in the shitty compression. The new script and dub are "serviceable" and that's most I can say for it. But I know where my preferences lie, and it's just kind of bland here.
>>
>>740748503
Yeah people are nostalgic which makes sense you cant top 64 delivery but it wouldnt fit the new artstyle anyways
Overall it is a dry delivery compared to the original but I dont understand people calling it shit, I really like peppy

The cutscene dialogue gives a lot more context to situations now. Completing Meteo normally, Pepper says they are being attacked on two fronts simultaneously but you can only reach one of them whereas if you take the warp, he says that because of this you can go to either one then Peppy lays out the reasons for going to each. Slippy also explains Meteo itself, saying it used to be a planet, that the holes in the bigger asteroids weren't made naturally (foreshadowing the boss) and he even geeks out at some of the enemies tech. I enjoyed.

It is sad that if they do bring back Krystal, then she likely won't be allowed to show any skin, or uh... fur. Not that she really did in Assault, but she was still busty. But this time it isn't even a thing that parents would complain about, it's literally just SJWs in the industry preventing this thing from happening (Lombax titties) after they wised up over anthro characters. Ironically, she already has the staff to complete the Disney girlboss aesthetic.

>>740757782
It honestly sucks because a remake of 64 would have been the absolute perfect time to shove in Fay, Fara (who was cut from 2 by the way, so she did exist at one point), and Miyu into the series, but it looks like that's just not going to happen.

Technically they do show Krystal in the Direct... But just on the cover for the game. But she's also in Smash, so there's that.
It is interesting that they show Adventures, but not Assault. I guess you could argue that they were just showing a game from each console, but they skip straight from Adventures to Smash instead. This is probably them signaling that an Adventures game is coming, but what do I know. I'm still wondering why they haven't dropped Adventures for the virtual console yet.

game overall feels great, really good movement and wide screen helps a lot, but I do have a bunch of nitchpicks that dunno if will add up with time or it's just this demo, but some enemies gets really mixed with the scenario due the lighting in some places, the boss is the biggest offender of it since now the weakpoints are small glass lights instead of a huge blinking square, it may cause issues for first players who never got the original title, barrel roll animation is not as satisfying, it lacks a second spin or a bigger tornado effect to show the shield, and I really wish I could change keymap, break to B instead of bomb really gets in the way

Also the entire mission up to that point Slippy keeps talking about it. He’s like

Also something else I noticed was how when you’re flanked by two groups of enemies in this stage and you’re warned about it, the enemies take a good bit longer to appear than they did in the original. It’s really weird, this remake is weird. Yeah the level layouts are the same but something is seriously wrong with timing and pacing.

What I'm curious about is how they'll handle the alternate route to Titania if Slippy doesn't crash there. In SF64, it still treats it as if Slippy crashed there no matter what. Also curious about Star Wolf on the Hard Route, because on Venom II they'd always act as if you shot them down before even if you never encountered them. And doing that is entirely possible if you only do Hard Route missions.

Just remove Wolf's bandages on Venom 2 and it goes back to fitting in fine, Leon can still acknowledge that they have new ships even if not fought before and it makes sense.

As for Titania, that might be interesting since the post Meteo warp acknowledges you can pick the easy route path. They could always have you just go down to beat up the boss without Slippy's arwing in it I suppose and add Slippy to the level as a normal teammate

yeah she is, people were even calling her furry leia back in the day with slippy being compared to jar jar, falco to han, peppy to obiwan to Fox's luke, Andross is vader without "Actually we're father and son" twist so the antagonism is played straight

Star Fox back when people had the ability to think beyond what some idiot with a social media following told them to think knew full well it was chalk full of space sci fi cliches with a furry style to keep it "original". Why I bet you a lot of the modern star fox fans won't understand that Katina is an Independence day reference the original enemy ships even look like the alien ships in that movie and the ending cutscenes pass or fail reference that movie as well, Bill is even named after the Bill in the movie who fights against those aliens and wins through a self sacrifice movie and one of those extremely 90s scene, today that scene would be cringe as hell in the 90s it was badass

I can definitely see this Fox blowing up at Pepper for having the gall to suggest leaving slippy behind, then again Peppy and Falco are shown repairing some damage to the great fox prior so maybe it's Fox being pissed off the enemy army actually forced him to retreat, sector Z really interests me, I'm wondering why the great fox just stops in the heart of enemy terratory and doesn't attempt to move at all from missiles being fired at it until one actually hits and now it's mission over and we have to retreat, Fox was angry even back then, new cockier full of himself Fox would be livid.

Too bad the voice acting is so wooden they won't convey his anger well or Falco and Peppy's worry for Slippy's safety with Falco wanting to join the fight and Peppy saying "Don't be dead, Slip" in the original

here's a novel idea, just make a sequel to 64. I look forward to seeing it get cancelled mid production in 2030

>>740769670

I think Fox's arc is going to be to go from an overconfident team leader to a more mature person once his father humbles and saves him in the finale true route

You know what's hilarious? How 64fags just want Nintendo to keep making Star Fox 64 again with no variations whatsoever, but the moment they get a remake that's exactly, they suddenly find all of these dumb little faggy nitpicks to complain about. You people are literally getting what you're asking for. Move on from this series or shut the fuck up.
>>
>>740769662
Yeah, 64 Fox still has that military attitude while still having a bit of a freelance in him while Switch 2 Fox is full on drop out
>>
>>740769958
Move on? Nintendo can't even move on from the n64 game!
>>
>DAMNIT NINTENDO, DON'T YOU GET IT THAT WE JUST WANT YOU TO DO 64 AGAIN?

Yeah Zero never game us full renders or models of anyone other than like Star Fox, General Pepper, and Andross. Not even Star Wolf got anything other than their mugshots.
I am hopeful that changes and we do get to see some post-mission cutscenes with Bill and Katt, but I am not expecting it.
More cutscenes with Star Wolf would be great too, but seeing as we do not have any renders for them, and the Finchina cutscene just shows them flying around without looking into their cockpits, we probably won't see full models for them either.

Nintendo could've easily just ported the 3DS version of Star Fox 64 to the Switch 2 but instead they're gonna make this Unity asset flip looking piece of shit and charge 80 dollars for it
