You don't have access to Formless Feint and Blades of the Pyre, two of the most broken skills in the game. Formless Feint makes you feel like you're an unkillable monster to the point that investing anything on defense or using defensive augments as a thief seems to be a waste, as you can instead use QoL or damage-increasing augments. Plus, in the DD2 Dark Arisen DLC, it looks like thief and other vocations will be getting more master skills (which Warfarer is unable to use).

Using different weapons as a gimmick for a class doesn't interest me much. The only interesting strategy that I can think of for the Warfarer class is combining the sorcerer's Augural Flare skill, which latches onto monsters and does damage every time you attack them, with the magick archer's multihit skill, like Sagittate Avalanche. Other than that, I can probably do the DD1 ranger/strider/Magick Archer/assassin meme using a dagger plus bow weapon, but then again, why bother when I can just formless feint + Blades of the Pyre spam that kills everything more efficiently?

DD2 is by no means a perfect game but removing any and all friction from the game is fucking stupid. What you end up with is garbage like MH Wilds, but i guess Capcom just can't help themselves. I'm actually kind of mad because I won't get to play the game's original version again because these updates are forced on you. And yes, I think with the DLC the game probably will end up in a better place overall than it was at launch, but one of the things I like about DD is the friction, the part where it's a game that wants the player to adapt to it instead of the other way around. That's clearly what Itsunos vision was for the game even if he failed in many respects. At least give us a hard mode with harsh economy and loss gauge and all that. Why do I have to use fucking mods now to get the experience that I paid for at launch?

The enemy design in Souls is the most shallow in the entire genre. There's no difference between the enemies, and the way you engage with them. A Godrick soldier from the beginning is indistinguishable from a Divine Beast Warrior. If the combat system is shallow, so are the enemies. No, some people just get bored too easily. It's not just about enemy variety but the player's own move-set and skill progression as well. In other words, it's about mastery. It continues to remain fun because the player is constantly getting better at taking down enemies while obtaining new tools to do so. People that really like action games like this element of mastery, that's what keeps it fun. Of course it never hurts to have more enemies either but I see way too many complaints about enemy variety when it comes to Japanese action games, not just for DD only. Well first you were complaining about DaS3 being too linear so then they give you the opposite in ER and it's suddenly "Ubisoft"? Leaving that aside, they still give you the kind of exploration that From is known for. You have levels with looping shortcuts, ledges to drop down, hidden walls, different paths, traps/hazards, and all of that. The world design of 3 is more linear but the actual levels themselves are in line with what From always did. In ER, finding the mini dungeons in the open world would be considered exploring, you have to look for them and some are decently well hidden. They were smaller and lower effort compared to the bigger dungeon but some of them contained some good rewards. Other than that, ER still had it's proper legacy dungeons which again, contained the exact same kind of exploration that was present in all of From's games. I've been playing since the original DeS and I sometimes wonder if you guys are just hating on From because they became too popular. I wont' demand that you like DaS3 and ER but they absolutely still have good exploration in them. The way DaS1 was more interconnected at the start was nice and I like that too but there's more to the exploration than that.

Semantics isn't a good look. Exploration is a feeling and that feeling is gone in DS3 and ER. In DS3 you don't feel like you're eploring the world because it's too linear so you're at most looking out for a side path with some loot, in ER it has the opposite problem where it's infinitely open so there's no value in actually looking aroudn because it's an open world game so there's nothing to find so at most you're just going through the motions seeing if you can spot any loot which is boring or just ignoring that trash entirely and b lining for hte legacy dungeons which admitedly are better but when there's only like 3 of them that are actually any good for a long ass game like ER it's not enough. I love all of the games and the feeling of exploration is present in all of them. How do you know the world of ER is "empty" (it wasn't) if you didn't go explore it? How is there no feeling of exploration when you're going through an area in 3 and checking all the nooks and crannies for treasure? You place way too much importance on that small bit of interconnection at the start of DaS1. I played ER blind for example (like all of them) and finding an elevator in the woods that leads down into this massively open underground civilization absolutely was awe inspiring and invoked that sense of adventure. Coming out of the catacombs and getting that first glimpse of Irythil in 3 was another great moment as well. And while I do love both 3 and ER, BB is my favorite overall. They never gutted anything and ER even went back to giving you more freedom in the order you do areas in so it's even more confusing for you to be against it.

Not my blog but I was full blast on DD:DA until I got triggered by the lich boss in BBI and wanted to go and retry DD2 so I launched the NG+ and got like 6 trigger warning about the fact that I was going to restart all over again and I was like just let me go and then as soon as I clicked the last warning I remembered that there was like a whole true ending that I missed where apparently you have like a time limit to get as much gear as possible and that I basically wasted my reward for a whole cycle. Then the next day they announced the expansion and made the update so honestly I'm not so sure what to do now... I literally one shot every trash mob and the bigger ones take like 10-15 sec max to kill once I reached their weak point.

Anyway playing DD:DA and DD2 back to back and I honestly don't understand the complain about the enemy numbers and variety, maybe there's a bit too much goblin but it's proportional to the size of the map. I was way more annoyed by the endless pack of wolves north of Grand Soren.
