Its easily the best form of narrative conflict.

You have the same no guilty conscience for fighting your enemies as you would against a pointless evil.
Ludonarrative dissonance is very low due to the compelling argument you have which boils down to "my side of the fence".
Leaves plenty of room for side stories.
Open to flipped sequel/DLC where you play as the enemy.
Impossible to write yourself into a corner as you can easily retcon anything that makes less sense as you progress the narrative.

Honestly It seems more childish to want a mindless and boring narrative. Wouldnt you rather theres no narrative at all and youre just playing the game? e.g. factorio, minecraft.

It just feels stupid to pretend youre a hero vs evil even if the entire story is literally just that.
