This (>>740780691) anon again. I got a Game Gear before a Game Boy, and to play it on-the-go I would use this big-ass battery they made for it. It was so big that they put a belt clip on the back of it.
>>740782326
>at least they had the foresight to give it an ac adapter, despite defeating the portable purpose
It was pretty common to buy an AC adapter for your handhelds back then to play at home. The original Game Boy could use the NES's adapter, but the Pocket (which I had) had its own fucked up adapter, which they would carry over to the GBC. I think I had an off-brand adapter for my Pocket that was transparent. Strangely I don't think that the original GBA had a port for an AC adapter, but I had this rechargeable battery that would plug into the battery compartment, and it had its own adapter that would plug into it.

when you had no idea that games weren't meant to run that slowly, nobody cared
hell, as a kid I always thought the 60hz option was the turbo mode like what the DMC3SE one
granted, my TV supported both 50hz and 60hz (prob cuz dad was working in the big economic boom and thus had the cash to splurge on a good TV, which sadly ended up breaking after a while)
nowadays, it mostly sucks cuz pre-PS2 consoles (and some early PS2 games like DMC1 PAL) don't have that switch so they'll be 50hz if you get the PAL copy, and trying to increase the speed yourself will just make sound effects and music play faster and pitched up

I have no idea how Pokemon Blue/Red got so big when there were a hundred better JRPGs on Playstation. Like i played them back then but fuck they were boring and then you add the handheld fuckery of having to beg your parents for batteries and hoping they actually have any. I didn't play any other GBC games for this reason
>>740781619
No you stupid fuck it was a TV standard, our TVs ran at 50Hz and a slightly higher resolution so they had to either slow the game down by 1/6 or lower the framerate or just skip frames depending on the level of effort they wanted to put in
Region locking is a separate thing. And PAL stopped being relevant with the transition to HD content

Probably a combination of things, like your eyes aren't adjusting for the dark since it's bright inside the cabin and also might add glare and reflections of the glass as well. You get the same kind of effect from your house: at night time turn on all the lights in the room and see if you can see as far out the window as you would with all the lights off. 2 things I absolutely don't miss are
A.) dial-up, mainly because my cheap as fuck parents didn't want to pay for a cable hookup when we moved in 1999 because they didn't think the internet would matter and we didn't get dsl until 2004
B.) Building a PC before 2000, its legitimately better having PCI-e for expansion ports and SATA/NVMe for storage devices/cd drives/etc than it was having shit like AGP and ISA and IDE and a bunch of other garbage like master/slave jumpers motherboards.
People romanticizing dial up are extreme faggots and there is no legitimate to "retvrn" to that garbage. Sure the dial sounds is nostalgic, but the tech is objectively inferior and we are better off without it. The only thing we need to go back is to is when paid DLC and MTX were shunned and spit on and not even a concept and devs not being corporatized fucks that actually put effort into delivering completed games

Don't do this on your home network unless you know what you're doing. And definitely don't do this to forward to a Windows machine. It exposes your network to the internet and there are bots from China and Russia that scan literally EVERY IPV4 address in existence and look for common exploits. If you have a Linux machine, you should have a firewall enabled like UFW.
If you want to see what I mean, install a program called Fail2Ban, which logs each time someone tries to access your machine. After just 24 hours you should see logs from dozens of bots.

i modded my wii almost 20 years ago now. It wasn't the personal journey you seem to be claiming. It was a brand new way to be made fun of for having passions that the people around me do not share. A whole new avenue to prove that my ambitions and interests are "wrong" and I should never share them with anyone, ever.

As an adult, I recognize the inconvenience of needing to buy and keep track of all those accessories, memory cards, game cartilages for a portal system (I guess that's still a "problem" with the Switch and Switch 2), and swapping out discs. But I don't know, man....I kind miss it.

How someone accessorized their GameBoy Color or organized their memory cards gave you a glimpse into their soul. Everything had a sense of personality to it. And there was a great sense of progress when you hit the "insert disc 2" message.

Just some small things we've lost to time that seemingly go unnoticed.

That AVGN video hit so close to home. My GBC supercartridge was full of such ungodly shit I've never encountered most of those games again. They're not part of any console's licensed library that's for sure. Many looked like they may have been 4-bit, like really old and shitty NES games.

>>
>>740790564
absolutely correct. but your phrasing is suspect, as is the post you chose to direct this at.
"replaceable" batteries include rechargeable modern batteries, not just your historical disposable alkaline battery. A battery becoming "replaceable" has nothing to do with the battery itself (with a handful of very specific exceptions) and is entirely dependent on the device it's connected to and how. "internal" batteries can be replaceable if you can access the internals without much trouble.

Overrated, to be honest. The plates don't keep dust out properly, and the mechanism that holds the plates in are overly fragile. It's also really hard to find decent quality replacement plates these days, and the Micro itself is too expensive to be used in the way that it was intended (something cheap you can easily just chuck into your pocket and not worry about). It's also the least comfortable GBA.

Paranoid about power outages, even though in the three years I've owned this house I've only had one power outage and it only lasted three hours (it was during that crazy hurricane that moved inland a few years ago). Grew up in a very rural area where lengthy power outages were relatively common in the winter. I recently found out something about my house that leads me to believe that I am unlikely to ever be without power for any significant amount of time, because apparently a very important set of traffic lights piggyback off of my transformer, so if I'm without power they are going to get that fixed ASAP.

That is preferable though.
I hate that fucking salt crust everything gets in the winter, and pavement ices over way worse than if you leave a half-inch of snow.
Whenever I shovel I always leave a compressed layer of snow on the bottom rather than go all the way to the concrete to avoid slips when shit gets icy again. And it always works.

Never understood why that cheap shit was the standard for CDs instead of gatefolds. Maybe the brittle clear plastic felt "futuristic" when they were new and no one ever really questioned it.

Oh man, where to begin.
Broken or scratched discs, lost CD keys, not being able to find the game to buy in the first place. All of those things I've dealt with and were devastated by.
I'd still take that over digital only though. It made gaming that much more special because of its adversity, now you just download the slop, play 20 minutes, and move on to next slop.

THIS. It is crazy the difference between 30 and 40. At 30 I could run six days a week and lift every day, rotating muscle groups. At 40 I get five runs a week and lift at most three, usually two. I'm thankfully not getting weaker or slower yet, but I'm so tired just trying to maintain what I have.

I don't think you niggers remember what a game-changer XInput was. Before XInput shit usually looked like this:
>game supports gamepad, yay
>cannot use stick because reasons
>another game supports gamepad
>cannot bind "stick up" and "stick down" to separate actions like "forward" and "backward"
>another game supports gamepad
>stick effectively works like a button, doesn't get recognized as analogue input
>another game supports gamepad
>chimps out because it thinks that stick is at 128 while it is in neutral position
>spend ten hours and download thirty programs to fix your gamepad
>game finally works
>"press BUTTON 37 to jump" like what the fuck is BUTTON 37
>game supports my cheap chinese racing wheel
>half of buttons are just doubles of other buttons
>cannot press "gas" and "brake" at the same time
Meanwhile after XInput:
>press big center button on the controller
>controller works, just like on console

And don't even get me started on trying to configure multiple controllers, which would usually ruin your single-controller configuration.

Reminds me that 360 piracy was such a pain needing expensive DVD9 discs that would fail burns often because they needed to be perfect. It did let me play GTA V a day before release. The OG Xbox was so comfy just copying games to a giant 80GB HDD. I think later on there was a modchip that allowed it but the 360 was already near the end of its run by then.
