i have an expensive pc and even i realize that 1440p is the highest anyone should go. The jump in power usage alone going from 1440p to 4k is insane and the difference isnt THAT noticeable or advantageous at least in modern AAA graphics heavy games. if anything the older a game is then you should be cranking it to 4K

You could find cheap used parts, so upgrading was frequent and easy.Home PC market fucking sucks now and I don't think it'll get better in the next 5 years. A gaming laptop might be a better deal than a DIY PC right now, and probably won't perform much worse. Losing easy repairability is horrible but it's still a 97% chance for everything to be okay, besides dust in the fan and battery degradation (you'll be plugged in all the time for gaming anyways).My only hate towards gaming laptops is that none of them are close to as good as the new macbook pros, which have incredible power and thermals but can't actually play games because macos lol.The new handhelds all suck, even worse compromises than what gaming laptops already are. Steam deck was the best one and still just a novelty, not revolutionary. Laptops are fine.
