From sold out to utterly irrelevant. How did Valve drop the ball so hard? Was it locking it behind the Steam DRM?
Where do you guys think these threads come from?
indeed it's a bad controller
>>740792250Someone that hates Valve for whatever reason. So many controllers out there (more expensive even) but this one gets a lot of hate for ((no reason)).
>>740792341indeed sir valve very bad please redeem the gamesir and 8bitdo ok bitch
>>740792036>From sold out to>look inside>still sold out>200 dollar bids for used controllers>250 dollar listings for new controllers>reservation made the first hour they became available, still no news about production

>>740792409The chinks already BTFO Valve at handhelds so why not also at controllers?
>>740792514>>740792556oh is it like a culture war thing? le epic chinese own evil american company?
>>740792409Unironically this though. Nobody wants or needs a controller stuffed with shit they'll never use. They want good buttons, sticks, triggers, d-pad, ergonomics. And you can get all of that (probably better desu) for a fraction of the price from Chang. Steam controller is for conspicuous consumers only
>>740792682Being a rational consumer is now an evil leftist conspiracy. Thanks obama
>>740792682Only retarded Valve cum slurpers think there is a "culture war". Fact of the matter is that the chinks sell you more valuable shit. Only some patriot Amerilard would disagree.

>>740792741>probablyAgain, you don't actually own one, you don't talk to people who own one, you're just making these threads to uh... justify your purchase?I don't care what third party chinese controller you use, but the Steam Controller works for me and it works for everyone I've talked to.If you're making an anti-Valve thread, make an anti-Valve thread, but don't sling some nonsensical bullshit. Now go ahead and disprove what >>740792440 said, because that's the only post in this thread you haven't responded to.
>>740792741If that were true, then most people would get a controller with one stick, a touchpad, no d-pad and a gyro or alternatively they would get a controller with a d-pad and 6 face buttons, but instead they get the Dualshock or 360 style dual analog + d-pad controller that is only good as a combination controller.People WANT all-in-one slop, it is convenient and stokes FOMO, it's the entire reason why the Steam Controller 1.0 had the garbage stick and awkward face button layout in the first place instead of some the slightly earlier superior designs.
>>740792036The steam drm was indeed a killer

>>740792036I'm playing Bonga with it right now
>>740792036>Locked it behind DRMMy nigger you can download 3rd party software to configure the controller if you want to, by definition it is not locked down to specific software. >Having to use software is DRMRequiring software is a requirement due to limitations of modern game design, not a desire to lock the controller down to specific software. Every controller that has more buttons than Xinput supports requires software to configure those buttons.>But it should just work with xinput, I don't need the extra buttons/featuresWhy would you buy the controller in the first place if you didn't want or care about the features that it offers. There are basic controllers readily available, you don't have to buy the steam controller. Anyone who buys the steam controller understands you need software to use its extra features. The complaint about it requiring software to use at all is moot, because you need software to use the extra features, which is the main reason to buy the controller in the first place.>Doesn't work with Gamepass. There are documented ways to make Gamepass games work with steaminput, or if you use 3rd party software it just works (without the features). Blame Microsoft for not having goypass games not be a standard exe that steam can hook onto.
>>740792036It was only available for 30 minutes and you had to fight Steam's bugged system to even get one, it's been weeks and there's still no news about when the reserved restock is happening. Barely anyone owns one so they're not going to talk about it.

He shows up in every Deck and Linux thread to spread false info
>>740792524SameThing just does everything you need it to. Battery lasts forever, comfortable to hold, some games really benefit from a few ease of access buttons.Wish they'd add an SDL passthrough you could still configure in steam input though
>>740794115>Blame Microsoft for not having goypass games not be a standard exe that steam can hook onto.Do they really? Lol and valve gets the monopoly accusations. What absolute scumbags.
>>740792036I have never used the trackpads on my 'eck outside desktop mode

I had been using my Steam Deck as a controller on my PC through some work-around, so I was always looking forward to this so I didn't need to deal with the hassle that method gives.Just got it yesterday, and it's pretty much exactly what I wanted, a less bulky way to use the Steam Deck's controls.I won't be using it for everything, I have a 8bitdo Pro 3 for games that are built with regular controllers in mind, but it'll be my go-to for any games that would regularly require a mouse and keyboard.
>Steam DRMIf the program uses SDL you don't need steam, I already tried it with 4 different emulatorsduckstationPCSX2RPCS3Shad Ps4All these emulators recognized the controller without the need for Steam
The vast majority of players would make no use of the touchpads. Yeah they're awesome to use, but for example no gamer would pick this up over playing with a mouse. Touchpads work only on the Steam Deck for obvious reasons.KMB is for KMB games. Controller is for controller games. You'll never make a controller that serves both purposes.
>>740792250The Jannies (pejorative for all administrators, not just what official capacity that "Janitors" specifically are assigned, Janny about to cry about this post) are a bunch of nintendorks that like to imagine there being a console war between Valve and Nintendo with Nintendo somehow "winning" this. There's also the rampant antishilling because every other company is so pathologically allergic to not being an asshole to the people that pay them they see the only strategy to gain a foothold is astroturfing that Steam is somehow as bad as them rather than offering better service. That's not to say there aren't problems with Steam, or Valve, there are.But largely the people bitch moan and complaining about it don't know this, both because they're shills that don't actually play vidya on PC and also they don't use steam as an actual user.Where you'd realize that "needing" SteamInput and the overlay is only really a problem because certain publishers are niggers and intentionally break the overlay to point at Valve and say>HAY LOOK DIS IS BAD THIS THING WE SPECIFICALLY PREVENT FROM RUNNING BAD >:)Because there's no real reason they're doing it other than to be an asshole.

>>740793356>making threadsDo you think people who disagree with you are some kind of amalgamation that collectively is making threads together. That's some serious schizo shitAnd my judgement is partly from past experience using a Steam Deck, which had shite controls esp the d-pad, from the fact that I can again buy a controller that is widely regarded as excellent and which undoubtedly has a better d-pad just eyeballing it (cross d-pad is cuck shit) for less than 1/3 of the price, and yes from reading people's impressions of it and other controllers, especially people who try a lot of controllers (typically people who review controllers)There is no need to spend £85 on a controller to make an opinion. In fact I'd argue that 'people spending £85 on a controller' is a group that self-selects for profound retardation. I have a controller from China that cost £25 and which performs vastly better than any first-party controller, so why would I spend £85 to buy from a company that has never previously put out a good controller? Am I meant to be fucking stupid or something?
>>740794619Not that I don't believe you, but how do you connect the thread where he accidentally included his reddit name to this thread and conclude it's the same poster?

>>740793458People buy the gamepad type that has the standard amount of buttons that games are designed for and a familiar layout because they were not bashed ten times in the head by a big rock prior to having the option
The problem is all valve products are only applicable to the tiny consumer market of "complete retards who will eat up anything valve buys"Don't get me wrong, I have an index and a steamdeck, but I would never ever buy this piece of shit controller, nor would I buy their retarded apple pro headset or their console. >>740800315I don't think this low IQ shit right here is ever going to end. If we took this as gospel you wouldn't get 8bitdo or gamesaar or any controller at all because muh mouse and keyboard. Once this anon started to lose the argument, the whole premise that you're playing these games from your couch had to disappear, yet you should also buy a normal controller because mom said contradictions are ok.
People liked the Steam Controller 1 specifically because track pads are objectively better than analog. They prioritised analog positioning over trackpads so the SC2 is completely worthless.
>>740800668Because it costs several times as much as options that do everything that people (who aren't bad-faith schizophrenics) actually want from a gamepad at an extremely high level of quality? Much gooder than that landfill bait Gabe shat out onto the market. Game On, Sir(TM)
>>740801448What you're talking about is a textbook case of survivor bias where people who had a use for the SC1 and primary touchpads bought one and it served their needs well. What you didn't see was everyone else who ignored it and gave no opinion on it. Valve wanted to make a general use controller. If the SC1 is better for you they aren't hard to find.

>>740801792I think the people who ignored it are brain damaged. The right analog has been such a disaster for gaming that games literally play themselves. Trackpads are objectively more versatile, accurate, and faster than analog. Shitters are terrified of trackpads because they need games to play themselves. Not that it matters, outside of sportsball, there isn't a single genre controllers excel at. They were always designed for mass adoption and portability.
>>740802315I just think they're neat and I like how they let me play more games and better than just sticks. Why are (You) so obsessed with them? Did trackpads kill your mom? Rape your dad? Muh trackpads are the only thing valve cultists have left.
>>740803426Trackpads aren't supposed to replace gyro for aiming, but to complement it by replacing sticks. This way you can flick to turn much faster, more like mouse, and then you use gyro the same way you do normally. Sticks + gyro are maybe 70% of the way to mouse because not being able to turn around fast is a massive weakness. Trackpad + gyro is essentially as good as mouse. The trackpads are also useful as touch menus for games that have a lot of actions.

>>740792036there's no functional difference between a 300$ controller and a 30$ controllerthe difference in performance is unnoticable by a human
>>740807206Only on wangblows. Works fine on Linux.>>740807220And? It still runs faster than natively on bloatdows lmao.>>740807319>how aren't people shitting on the controllerSimple. It's false. Doesn't stop jeets from trying to force outrage over this though.
>>740805435My post >>740801372 was talking about the retard I was replying to. It wasn't even an opinion on trackpad vs no trackpad. It was just the absurdity of bringing up the superiority of the keyboard and mouse as a reason you should buy a normal controller.
>>740801660>Because it costs several times as much as options that do everything that people (who aren't bad-faith schizophrenics) actually want from a gamepad at an extremely high level of quality? Sorry, am I arguing with actual illiterates herewhen did valve hold a gun to your head and force you to buy a controller? if you dont care about those features, just stop hating and dont buy it. other controllers which have these features (gyro, TMR sticks, back buttons) cost double this much, and they dont have trackpads. There are separate markets for cheap chinese 8bitdo crap and controllers like this, which is competing against similarly priced official xbox and snoy controllers and massively undercutting "pro" controller markets
>>740807556>Simple. It's false. Doesn't stop jeets from trying to force outrage over this though.Ive read that you need steam to change settingsfuck you and fuck jewben
>>740807449Apparently which side the dollar sign goes on is unnoticeable by humans too
>>740807862>other controllers which have these features (gyro, TMR sticks, back buttons) cost double this much, and they dont have trackpads.Bro what? 8bitdo ultimate 3 goes on sale for $60 regularly.
My order just went through and I'm curious what other people are doing with it.I bought the original Steam Controller and while I didn't use it enough, it had a brief resurrection last year when I used it to play Nubby's Number Factory.I know I'll be able to use it to download roms when I'm sitting on my couch and maybe some DS emulation but I'm curious what other games on Steam I haven't thought about.
>>740807645Fair enough. I just quickly glanced over the thread to see if any other posts brought up the same "you don't actually want to play on the couch" point and accidentally flagged your post.
>>740808053idk man it doesnt have gyro. about a year ago i wanted a controller that has gyro because i was impressed by splatoon and they have steam input gyro now so i looked it up but anything with gyro is stupid expensive, esp if you also want magnetic thumbsticks
>>740807923>Ive read that you need steam to change settingsNot quite. You obviously need some software to remap and change settings. Steam is the official option, but any software that uses SDL will read the controller and can either use it directly or act as remapping software and forward it to games.
>>740808121I was playing DS games with mine, I was having trouble with rhythm heaven but from what I've heard it emulates poorly, and it might be a skill issue.
>>740808461It does have gyro, but you need to install their software.
>>740808121been great for mpv player, i sit back on the couch and watch anime with it. i had an input config that meant i could do this before with an xbox controller but there were things i couldnt do like select different files to watch or having a button for next/previous file due to not enough buttons.also, putting gyro aim in games like EDF5still looking at trying a few other games out, and i will have to fuck around in steam input more, but theres a lot of possibilities, especially with radial menus and such on the trackpads.
>>740798403words to live by
>>740792036It's still sold out. Where the fuck can I get one without paying some scalper faggot?
>>740809330You can reserve and join the queue but it'll be a while until you can actually order.
>>740802869I'd love it if it worked wirelessly on PC. Only works wired so far.
>>740809330>>740809465Im here near Seattle and I got one from the first batchUsed it once and put it on my shelf never to use againIf you live near me and you are a cute twink/tranny or a hung stud let me fuck you or suck your bwc and ill give you my Steam controller
>>740792250These are just started by somebody who wants to talk about their steam controller but framed negatively because earnest threads don't survive on /v/.
>>740803314>gamesirgot some cheap $10 one from em and liking it so far; nice alternative for when I don't want to torment my eternal og x360. the name is completely retarded though lmao
Why are people shitting in 8bitdoIt just werks
>>740792036Bro it's just a controller why are you seething so much?
>>740810919Steamies are threatened.
>>740809936>tfw I'd actually take this offer in this economyWelp, guess I'm econosexual or something
>>740792036I still want to buy one but I'm waiting for fans to fix it and make it work outside of steam like a normal fucking controller.
>>740810919It's a good controller. I was going to buy 2 more for a total of 4 but then the steam controller was announced a release date. I might still end up buying one more though because I don't foresee getting a 2nd steam controller ever (I have two base stations for deck on different floors). My only complaint about the 8bitdo is that it doesn't have track pads. You gotta use a shift key + joystick to move the mouse around on "playable" games with launchers on the deck, and it's an absolute pain.
>>740810984Is this teh "I'm having a blast" of Steam Controller threads?
>>740792036I might get one if it ever comes back in stock. My most recently bought Dualsense right trigger has stuck for no reason. I opened it up and gave it a shake but it hasn't fixed it.The Steam controller has some nice features and at least it has twin sticks this time.
>>740811704It already does that. Might want to put in a reservation.
>>740812153Full functionality without having to run Steam?
>>740792036>saar redeem xinput you bloody benchodAll fields
>>740792250Sour grapes.
>>740808943>been great for mpv playerHaven't really had the need for a media player but that might be nice. I'll give it a shot.>also, putting gyro aim in games like EDF5Still never done much gyro aiming but I am thinking I could go for some EDF at the moment. Something about the Summer heat.Definitely a lot of possibilities with Steam input and it really works well if there's someone extremely autistic about the game in question that has already made a layout. I remember seeing an extremely elaborate one for Dwarf Fortress and I'm sure there's a similar one for Rimworld. Never played much Rimworld but setting up a colony and chilling on the couch might be fun.
>>740798524>mogged by nova 2 lite and cyclone 2regular G7 has no reason to exist
>>740812310Depends on what you mean by full functionality. All the inputs are accessible through SDL, so any software that supports SDL can use it. But if you want Steam input remapping, you obviously won't get that without Steam. You can still use 3rd party software for remapping though, but it won't be as extensive.
>>740812689Alright I have to look into this a little bit more before I commit. Thanks for the info.
>>740792036>irrelevantStill waiting for my preorder to be called.
>>740810919They have crappy quality control but that can be applied to most of the chink brands.
>>740792036>brownoids shilling gameSARFucking lol!!!!!!!!!
>>740792036>locking it behind the Steam DRMWorks on my machine.
>>740792250tim sweeney's jeet brigade getting paid in vbucks
>>740810919Their old controllers were overpriced ass carried by nostalgic design, and they've been shilling their shit here for a full decade nowTheir new stuff seems fine if you aren't picky about sticks or d-pad
>>740792682well, on china's side they are just desperate to pretend their cheap slop means you should never consider anything nicer.purely business.these threads have also seen the sony fans doing their usual retardation and subterfuge they became known for during the console wars stuff.other than that its just Epic games, their hired pajeets, and some angry jewish lawyers seething at valve for being successful without being evil about it.
>>740792250meI am behind everythingsay my name
>>740810919because 8bitdo kept trying to aggressively shill in the anti-steam threads, and their stuff "just werking" is a small gamble due to chink quality control being exactly that.they made the mistake of being annoying and trying to muscle into the longstanding war between everyone and the pajeets that scream about literally ANYTHING and EVERYTHING involving valve at all times.
>>740812767waiting a bit for things to stabilize will likely just benefit you, as long as the controller keeps getting made.Valve released enough info for anyone else to just make or incorporate what steaminput does for the controller into their own stuff which does the same thing. They have a history of doing this kind of thing, even releasing cad files for the shell and making a deal with a third party vendor to sell parts for the controller. The more you wait, the better a picture you will get of what the controller offers, and the more third party stuff will be built around it.
>>740792250>Where do you guys think these threads come from?Honestly I dunno. Babblegroup got hired by Epic to make these? A lone deranged snoyger upset their controller only has a 3 hour battery life and costs more? Some autist who's special interest is talking about how much better his 3rd party controller is? A true mystery. I genuinely love my Steam Controller. Was expensive but it was free thanks to the CS skin rework that turned my 50 dollars worth of trash into 1900 dollars. Even if I had to pay I'd probably get it just because of the expanded Steam Input options. Trackball emulation on trackpad is a game changer for my needs. So are the backbuttons and the combination of them with layers and "virtual keys" on the touchpad. It made me pack up my old 30$ 8bitdo Ultimate C 2.4Ghz wireless which previously was my favorite since it was cheap, comfy, had back buttons, long battery life and came with a wireless charging dock. I didn't think I'd ever get the opportunity to replace it and justify a replacement. There are thousands of other controllers people can use so if they like them they should use them. The only reason people make threads like this is because they can't use it and realize their method of input is inferior is my take (from their subjective unconscious perspective at least).
>>740813963Is there a controller with a better clicky d-pad than the Pro 3? Cause I got one because I've heard it's the closest to the Vita d-pad I'm going to get
>>740815520If you're particular about it having the same shape and switch type, no.
>>740815520The main reason to get a 8bitdo is for it's dpad
>>740813759>just run an emulator to play your PC games bro
What's the best xinput solution for this turd controller? Adding pirated games and emulators as non-steam games is an insanely dogshit solution. Launching wukong simply launches a whole fucking different game from my steam library. Stellar Blade has no fucking working gyro for some fucking reason no matter how hard I try. And some other game that I tried straight up crashes at launch as a nonsteam game. It's not worth the fucking effort. I tried steamless controller, it converts it into a xbox controller BUT the fucking steam controller still fucking works as a steam controller, so when playing, the fucking keyboard pops randomly0/10 controller so far btw, not worth it
>>740792036You literally can't even buy it right now, goddammit, Valve.
how can this thing be the best PC controller if it doesn't even have adaptive triggers for racing games lol, and it won't even be detected by Forza games i believe what counts as the "best for PC" means "the best for everything although not perfect", the whole point is compatibility and it doesn't offer that
>>740819385>how can this thing be the best PC controller if it doesn't even have adaptive triggers for racing games lolYes it does.
>>740819431?????????? lying kike
>>740819385>adaptive triggers for racing gamesWhy would I play a racing game with a controller? That's the cool thing about PC. I can use pedals. I use pedals for every game in fact as additional inputs, not just racing. I can't imagine tolerating nonsense like using a controller for racing lmfao. That's like using a controller for a shooter.
>>740818835What emulator am I running?
>>740820336this retard is pretending shooters and racing games on console didn't exist before overpriced accessories started showing up in the market
>>740810537>I want to have a thread about [thing] so I will ensure the thread derails before it starts! No one who thinks like this is interested in discussion, they just want (You)'s.
>>740821314The last shooter I tolerated on console was Goldeneye 64. Then I realized PC existed and bought all my shooters there from then onward. Consoles are for platformers, movie games, puzzle games, sports games, fighting games, etc. Racing/simulation/strategy/shooter is the realm of keyboard/mouse (PC). You can technically play a racing game or shooter on console just like you can technically eat dog shit from your yard. Doesn't mean you should.
>>740821314What kind of desperate cope and goalpost moving is that? Try harder.
>>740821657wow, i'm glad i'm talking to such a well-educated shooter player in the flesh!! what a legendary PC gamer
