As gorgeous as Dragon's Crown is Shadow Over Mystara is still the better game handily. I think all the equipment and hub and cursor to open chests/doors and such bog the game's pacing too far down for a beat-em-up though I get why they did it given all of their action games had some kind of buildcraft and interactables. Amazon has parry invul into spin2win, but parries can be a huge headache if you're not playing solo

You're missing out, also female chars are rather technical so they might frustrate you.
Amazon's main gimmick is that she gets powered up the more you hit enemies but gets powered down when she gets hit, when you hit shit you get Berserk stacks which buff your melee damage and also massively increase speed but you also have shit defense and a single hit reset you to base Amazon which is pretty shitty.
To make up for this mechanic Amazon has a perfect parry, a lot of multihits to get stacks quickly and actually pretty good mobility at full stacks but she's still very much a glass cannon.

Elf is the only dedicate ranged character in the game but has a couple of melee tricks.
Her main gimmick is that she has an arrow quiver and you need to manage ammo, she has the best air mobility out of all the characters outside of maybe Fighter, and she's really good at ranged combat with some pretty damaging point blank tricks, on top of that she's a somewhat dedicated item user that can slot in Backstab for pretty decent melee damage should you find daggers in chest, her dodge is top notch but she kinda struggles in DPS at top difficulty due to her quiver gimmick and charge based skills, overall she's pretty technical.

Sorceress is Wizard but instead of being a glass cannon she's more or less pure support, she shares the basic staff moveset with Wizard but her dodges are different (wizard has long ground teleports, sorceress has midair flight) and she focuses on team buffs and gimmicks like fullscreen freezes and magic walls over nukes, her damage is godawful and skellies are dogshit outside of the very early game, they scale really bad and unfortunately don't do much at all beyond the easiest difficulty, she's straight up the worst class in the game for solo play because her damage is awful and she lacks offensive tools, conversely she's god tier in multiplayer because of her broken support spells like Create Food.

She has the best MGR so she's actually the best solo because she has the best survivability. Her LUC is A also so she will crit often which boosts her dmg.

Sorc has some tricks with her rod magic, but it's unintended and going into animation canceling territory. Stuff like being able to empty your MP in 1.5 seconds and flood the entire screen with ice up tornados or jump fireball quick drop loops. Her DPS isn't really that bad and since she doesn't quite rely on her active spells, she can chain runs for quite long without taking much of a hit at all.
Similarly, elf also has roll cancels into elemental lore from almost everything including her up multishot so bosses are going to refund your arrows from all the lore you drop all over the place assuming you don't go full scorched earth on your quiver and chain multishot hop shot into multishot again.

The best survivability is not getting hit at all, your resistances don't matter on Inferno because everything two taps you and fills the screen with hitboxes, what matters is killing shit ASAP and Sorc struggles there because again, your damage is low and will always be low compared to everyone else but maybe Dorf.
Sorc has some very favorable matchups (Chimera, Medusa, Pirates, Cyclops, arguably Gargoyle gate) but overall she's a neutered Wizard who's built to be the party support slut rather than a functional single player character.

And her base damage is awful so you're not solving anything, her saving grace is sharing her core moveset with Wizard and being able to use the same tricks as him but her base damage is slower and she can't overcharge like Wizard either which is why Wizard mogs her in DPS both solo and online.

Sorc struggles because again, she's MP dependant, has a worse version of overcharge and has low base damage unlike Wizard despite having the same staff tricks, never mind not having access to Wizard's spells like Meteor, let alone Slow.
Elf has a lot of tricks in her bag but she's fairly execution heavy, stuff like Elemental Lore cancels require practice to pull off and on higher difficulty levels she struggles to keep up with other characters because her execution is above average for not so great returns, not to mention the need to refill your quiver constantly and commit to that, not to mention no weapon throw/smash for extra i-frames on demand.
Amazon for instance has amazing DPS and simple execution, you just need to know your opening and not to overextend, on the other end of the spectrum you have Wizard who has complex execution AND amazing DPS, Elf sits somewhere in the middle where you have above average execution for above average DPS.

Which will never happen no matter how good you think you are, especially when you climb high levels in ToM and more cursed enemies/magic missiles/etc. appear. The insane dmg post-game is mostly magic/elemental so MGR becomes more important and you will get hit eventually. And Sorc has the best mobility also with her flight so if you want to argue not getting hit then Sorc is best at that regardless.
Also she trivializes many bosses if you know what you're doing, like Petrify or Curse on the Pirates or Thunder on the Kraken. And she has certain affixes that multiply dmg on her key spells, e.g. "10x dmg on Stoned/Cursed enemies" so she can clear screens with proper play.

Vanillaware dev team is confirmed working on the new Muramasa release and it has new assets and functions the Vita version didn't have (new bathing spots and the main pair are shown fighting DLC bosses). Vanillaware staff, especially Shigatake, have tweeted saying they're working on it.

You're right that Atlus had previously asked for PC versions, and even offered to fully pay for a separate dev studio to do it, with VW saying no. I think it's simply that the internal decision makers at VW have changed their minds enough to be willing to do it.

I think it's fine as a single player game, I think it's fatal flaw in that regard though is that it takes too long for its loot system to be interesting.

Once you're on Hard and then Infernal, there's a lot more to consider and specialise in across your build, but the first playthrough lacks aspects that become relevant later and thus might be a bit too simple as a single player game.
