Technically you are online and can play with others in instanced worlds, but it's not a real MMO in a sense that you are constantly in the same world with others. Crossplay at launch with playstation 5 and them talking about scaling down world size would support this.

I played gw2 on release and one of the best things was no party finder so you actually had to talk to people, some people I met doing that I still play games with.Im sure they eventually added a party finder thing though, which is gay.
