I wouldn't say any Avatar holds a candle to Goku as a protagonist.But realistically speaking, for as much complaints people have with the Avatar system as a concept, there's very few people that actively dislike any of the Avatars. Or even dislike them more than more controversial protagonists like Eirika, Ephraim, Edelgard, Micaiah, Roy, or Eliwood. A lot of the complaints they hold are more general complaints about how FE is written, not necessarily the pandering and what it means for FE as a PRODUCT. And in regards to the pandering, more people do like what it adds to any game, people really like breeding the best Morgan or making custom CGs for S-Supports or Pact Rings. This isn't unique to FE either, people love actually having a kid with Aerie or redeeming Viconia in Baldur's Gate II or being Commander Shepard in Mass Effect. Sure, there's plenty of other self-inserts that are far less special and notable, like The Courier of Fallout: New Vegas or any given Wizardry/Etrian Odyssey party, but for the most part, people do like the feeling that they matter in the world and to the characters.FE just needs to give you more accomplishments over just handing power to (You). Eshmel being this literal Angel does make me nervous as well, but I'm not gonna doompost immediately about the idea they can't be an interesting character or provide notable interactions with the main quad. Byleth in a vaccum for example is pretty boring, but Byleth as a springboard for others' character developments genuinely hit people in the feels.

I will say I’m a little disappointed at yet another plot involving the Nabateans, (we have one confirmed one for sure, Sand Lizard is either a Nabatean too or maybe half lizard idk, and maybe the green girl too. We can’t see her ears), plus the evil one from the trailer. Dagda was kind of notable for not being ground zero for this kind of stuff, so it’s a little disappointing at getting what seems to be just the leftovers of Fodlans plotI guarantee you they will find some way to put the Agarthans in here too
