Sony is doing an excellent job of hiding just how much of a colossal failure it is. Not only is Marathon alone 400M+ down the drain, Bungie is 3.6B on top of that.
Imagine licherully burning 4 billion dollars, lamao.

>is sony going to be alright?
they're going to be alright, but it says a lot when even a 6 bazillion dollar company like Sony is even starting to take notice of billions being burnt on absolute failures. And some of them haven't even come out yet. Remember, Intergalactic Heretic aka bald space lesbian game? They didn't even dare to show a teaser or even a trailer at the Direct. They for sure already dumped hundreds of millions into that one too.

Grim. And given we know PC is 70% of sales while Playstation/X-box are like 20/10% respectfully, that doesn't bode well for Bungle first-party.

>plus the other live service cancellations because Bungie told them to.
Bungie cost sony upwards of 5b, and marathon is all they have to show for it. Yeah it's a bigger disaster than concord, and always will be, because concord's failing was another bungie failing.
>>
>>740889202
Marathon might be a bigger financial flop than Concord (even if you ignore the $3.6b Bungie cost), but Concord launching to sub-700 people on Steam then dying in two weeks is flopkino the likes of which you see once or twice a decade.

They have subcontractors like Kurpa Hosk on Marathon who literally post here. They have "sensitivity readers" who's entire goddam job it is to avoid controversy with shit like this.

It's clearly a case similar to AC shadows where those people do nothing but possbily make shit worse.
>>
>>740890834

>>
>>740889495
>>740889202
The Bungie saga of fucking up ALL the liveservice games is the true epic tale here.

Concord is more than just kino. It's a signpost. It's a legend. It's shaped gaming dev since. The journalists still don't even know what to call it. My favorite is "the curse of concord".

This isn't just once per decade. This is ET class. This is bigger than Daikatana or virtual boy.
>>
>>740889495
>the likes of which you see once or twice a decade.
a flop like Concord has actually never been seen before in entertainment. it's completely historic.
~8 years in development. ~$400M budget. lasted for two weeks. can't even play it anymore.
there is no single piece of entertainment media that has hit these marks. even movies that blew this much money or production time are still watchable. even E.T. still runs on an atari 2600 or you can emulate it.
>>
>>740890994
You have fuckers, either some combination of idiot or shill themselves who say "nobody cares, nobody shills here, nobody knows what's going on here", and in this specific case you have a company with their own website proudly listing the services they do, which include monitoring the haters here to protect your brands. It's similar to shareblue in that regard. When the next major, obvious shill company gets relevant, I'll switch to them.

>ACShadows
Even saboturers coudln't be that effective. A full spectrum AAAA failure.
>>
>>740879972
>PS5 copies sold
This is why they don't make multiplayer games exclusive. I imagine playstation owners would simply play cowadoody instead, either warzone for free or buy the newest one.
>>
>>740891014
I wouldn't say Bungie fucked up Destiny so much as they just spent too much money making it. The game was fine and had ups and downs like any live game, but if it was so jank and broken, it wouldn't have run for as long as it did.

Concord was more a canary in the coal mine for 'uh guys, I think this live service thing actually isn't going to work..', and then Marathon was the confirmation; a AAA budget live service flop that got embarrassed badly by its older, forgotten brother (D2). That's why so many people are hovering like vultures over Marathon on SteamDB/SteamCharts; Marathon failing is an industry wide signal that both AAA and the live service model are not practical to chase.

>>740891274
I would put Concord on the shelf next to ET and (at launch) TOR because of just how a spectacular fuckup it was. ET is the most known/most infamous of the three, but Concord was clearly the largest financial cockup.

>>
>>740891354
The unforgivable thing is that they didn't follow it up, either with Destiny 3, or some game that would actually appeal to those fucks. They had decades to figure that out. And it wasn't a pressure cooker team extraction shooter.

All that sells are third person cinematic experience samey titles. 5 million with over 90 million consoles on the market is still dogshit attachment rate since shit like Donkey Kong,Pokopia or Tomodachi all sold 5 million + but there are 20 million bingtendos on the market so attachment rate to first party content for tendies is a lot higher.

>cylindrical pressure vessel (a huge red flag for the depths he wanted) and the double whammy of him using carbon fiber
i think on top of that they also re-used that vessel after it already had problems too, didn't they? or they did no maintenance/inspections on it between runs... i can't remember but yeah its like seeing a trainwreck in slow motion watching all that stuff that lead up to the implosion
>>
>>740880869
Karen of War feat. Quirky Chungus Cube will also sell that well despite the bad press because snoyfags have literally nothing to play and because Ragnarok was well received overall
>>
>>740895754
The problem with carbon fiber is that it weakens over repeated dives, so the possibility of a catastrophic failure (like what happened) increases. I don't think normal metal has those issues, but you would still inspect everything and have pre dive checklists and all that.

The whole sub was a mess. Even the front view port was only rated to like half the depth the sub was going to, so if the carbon fiber hull didn't fail, the front window could've, among a bunch of other failure points. Even in the very polite interview 60 Minutes Australia did with James Cameron about it, Cameron basically called the Oceangate CEO the world's biggest retard for how he handled the sub's design.

Though Tsushima sold 5 million by month four. This is barely at 5 million at month 8, plus the $70 vs $60 volume differences. Still, this is having a longer tail than I expected despite the "strong" hate campaign against it. Online really is a bubble, in most cases.
>>
>>740898000
>yeah that wasn't solely for marathon
it was for "live service expertise", which makes it even fucking worse considering literally and not figuratively every single operational decision they've made since the acquisition has backfired explosively.
>>
>>740898114
Yotei underperformed and fell off, just like TLOU2 did. Sony hides it by clever marketing tricks and selective reporting, but since the Yotei devs cancelled a planned DLC or had a way lighter post launch content plan, there's your proof it sold a lot worse.

Always look at what a company does, not what it says.
>>
>>740891649
YouTube dislikes are the closest barometer we have to online-real life influence as it is the most neutral and normie-friendly platform. Saw many a dislike on nearly every Yotei video up to and after launch. It ought to have some impact on its sales tale and it is $70, making it much of a louder success than it apparently is.
Because this was the most pushback we ever gave a company, our most concentrated vest shot and we still lose?? Good luck buddy, we can forget trying to change the industry back to the way it was.

I really then can't wait to see the box office The Odyssey will have, with my logic.

Case in point, Bond is still at the top of the charts, over COD, over Fortnite, for WEEKS. It is selling extremely, extremely well on PS5. Most major releases barely top COD for a few days or even a week. I don't think Yotei did.

Yeah we weren't really disagreeing. I was just giving my own reasons for it not selling as much. Though rarely do sequels outpace or outdo their predecessors (Tears of the Kingdom, GOWR, Horizon 2)
>>
>>740898000
Marathon is the only project bungie has launched since their acquisition, unless you want to count D2 expansions which all outsold marathon.
It is relevant because concord would not have happened without bungie. It was bungie devs who only got 400m from sony because bungie told sony to spend it. Sony would not have spent 400m on concord if bungie didn't convince them it was a prudent decision.
Bungie told sony to cancel the naughtydog gaas because it directly competed with marathon. Bungie tried to sabotage HD2 because they thought it would compete with marathon. Sony bought bungie specifically for their "live service expertise." The culmination of that expertise is a half dozen failed or cancelled games, and 5b spent with only marathon to show for it.
Yes, concord was bungie's call, and marathon continues to cost sony over 5m every month, which they need over 125k full price sales on PS only to break even. At current pricing, platform division, platform cuts, etc. Marathon needs 700k sales each month to break even.
>>
>>740898907
Yup. So even with one arm tied behind its back, at a lower price, and being an unknown, untested IP, it is doing swimmingly well against Yotei at this point in time, aligned.

Baseball has been circling the drain even more than usual lately, I doubt the interest is there. I used to consider myself a big baseball fan and all last season I only watched half of one game and it was the season opener.
It’s also not exclusive to PS anymore but idk how well it sells on other platforms.

It's an opinion formed after seeing her repeatedly embarrass herself by acting like an ape during different public appearances, on top of her useful idiot/Seattle liberal retard opinions. It just diminishes the quality of the game.
