You don't have to explain shit, just get it close enough for the viewer's own misinformation verisimilitude to close the gap.
The more you try to explain, the more shit you can get wrong.
For the classic example, see any time travel plot that tries to make even the smallest ounce of sense, almost all of them would make more sense if someone said "It behaves like time travel, we don't understand it really", rather than trying to explain technobabble, continuity, paradoxes and tachyons that are just going to contradict each other by the end anyway.
