Compare this to XIV, where every job has a completely linear rotation and opener with very little room for expression, not to mention you almost never have to worry about buffs or debuffs (other than when you fuck up a mechanic), and there's just overall much less mechanical complexity when it comes to the combat. Jobs are also much more unique and individualized in FFXI, with specialized roles and unique playstyles depending on which one you choose. FFXIV jobs are essentially just a different coat of paint over the same exact thing: learn your rotation and opener, don't fuck up mechanics, use your oGCDs as needed, follow the 120s burst, etc.
