Final Fantasy is a clusterfuck even if you play games that released in the same generation as each other. That can still work but you have to surprise people. It's a much taller task especially now that they can't wow people with a visual spectacle to the same extent as they could back in the PS1/PS2 days. Now they are doing this by remaking a PS1 games with a bunch of new shit thrown in, but that doesn't work for new mainline entries.All Dragon Quest has to do is be Dragon Quest and not look like total shit.

>>740931273I'm not a big fan of even the good Final Fantasy games, but to be fair to Final Fantasy in general, I think this speaks more to how bad the likes of XV and XVI are than it does about how people feel about anything FF related at all. I think if they announced a FF9 remake or whatever, people would be happy about it, but XVI was so bad it's hard to have faith in a wholly new FF. I do think that puts it in a worse state than something like Persona, where there's excitement for both new things related to the games people already love and for the future of the series, but I think in Final Fantasy's case there isn't any love lost for its classic entries, there's just no confidence in a FFXVII being good either.

>>740941937Because I know only a single Persona-clone and the only two out of the norm things, that can't be traced to SMT and which could've influenced the industry, were the Social Links and P5's style. I'm also glad they didn't. Persona is grounded in very traditional and established elsewhere JRPG conventions and embraces that wholeheartedly. It doesn't do extra to rock the boat.
