If you've ever thought about trying the ultimate space sim, now's the time. Hands down my favorite game ever.
>>
>>740936842
Can I just play it like Eve where I was just mining shit and sometimes doing missions blowing up shit
>>
Oh nice 9.0 is now out of beta?
>>
>>740937515
Absolutely. This is basically Eve Offline, plus its way more immersive (you can walk around ships/stations, get out of the spaceship etc). One of the best things about the game is that you can play it however you want, in the true sense. You can stick to your first spaceship, or gradually build an empire, or just a mining fleet. Or you can mine yourself and sell the ore to stations who have a demand for it (simulated economy).
>>
>>740937903
It is, and its massive.

>>
>>740937515
eve is x online
>>
On another note, please tell me the game factions actually do shit like a 4x game or something and not just 'every sector is always owned by the same entities'
>>
I play it occasionally but it's still too shallow to really put a lot of time into. The economy needs a humongous rework, it feels like a placeholder and the AI is insanely, comically fucking stupid. When you get into larger battles 75% of medium and small ships are just flying around in circles not even shooting anything
You tend to find yourself grinding and grinding to build stations and then you're kind of just flush with cash with a large navy but there's really nothing to do but camp xenon gates
>>
>>740939365
they can change ownership or you can take them over. war is good for business and peace just stagnates player's profits
>>
>>740939365
a little bit, but not much. Technically factions will war with eachother, and Xenon is at war with everyone and they'll attack eachothers sectors but they never really make any progress, they'll blow up a couple stations but they won't foray very far into enemy territory.
Basically there are 'frontier' sectors that the factions fight in, and you'll occasionally see a raiding party magically spawn deeper inside a factions territory to attack civilian ships before they get vaporized by a station, but the borders are pretty clean otherwise.
>>
>>740939365
Protocol Null enables random events that can change the relations factions have between each other. You can also initiate those events yourself

>>
Has someone made a VR mod for this yet? Seems like looking at all this shit in 3D would be fun and would keep me from settling into spreadsheet mode for longer than usual.
>>
>>740936842
I want to play it, but for some reason it runs really bad on the Steam Deck, even though there's a native Linux version by the developer and it's Steam Deck verified. I've poured through ProtonDB, PCGamingWiki, ChatGPT, tried tweaking all in-game settings, and even tried tweaking my Steam Deck, but still get 20 fps with no ships in view. I will try again when the Steam Machine releases.
>>
>>740936842
Is this a Paradox situation where all DLC are optional but actually aren't or can I just get the base game?
>>
>>740940000
The steam deck verification program is a fucking joke. X4 is a massive game and needs a beefy CPU. The steam deck is simply too weak to run the game properly

speaking of camping xenon, you can reach some ridiculous xenon numbers and aggression if you keep taking over their sectors and destroying their shipyards until they only have a couple of connected sectors left. they try to maintain the same total number of shipyards and rebuild them in different sectors so you can concentrate them in one region and they can steamroll most things when they decide to come out
>>
Has it surpassed x3 yet?
>>
Does it have many worthwhile mods?
I like my shit modded (havent played X4 since the release week)
>>
Overall I still prefer X3AP, especially with mods, but i appreciate Egosost doing their best to make X4 the best it can be over time instead of having another Rebirth situation.
>>
i tried it, first npc you see is a nigger with an aussie accent. uninstalled and refunded
>>
>>740940207
I would argue that it's not worth playing without mods, especially the ones that make factions/AI actually do stuff
>>
>>740940086

At least get the Split, Terran and Boron expansions. The base game works properly without those but the amount of sectors are pretty small if you dont have the DLCs. Tides of Avarice is... fine but not that necessary

Imho it's worth to get all DLCs and suffer through the crapshoot that is Timelines just to unlock the new sectors and derelict ships. Timelines is the worst DLC though and the ship packs are purely optional but add some nice new music to the regular sectors.
>>
>>740940086
kind of but not quite. it is pretty much a game where you can start with base game and then buy new dlcs one by one later to get more content on the same save. they are mostly just more content, ships and sometimes alternative production chains for stuff, not new mechanics

you probably want cradle of humanity. split vendetta and kingdom's end also add plenty of new sectors and ships. stuff like hyperion and envoy are entirely skippable and so are timelines and tides of avarice, but to a lesser extent.
>>
>>740940086
DLC add a ton of content, but you can get hundreds of hours from the base game alone
>>
>>740940207
A lot of people are raving about the Star Wars Interworlds mod.

Personally I just play vanilla and I am satisfied with it
>>
This is one of those games which doesn't feel like a game but feels like a 3d interface. No thanks. I want to be immersed and not feel like I'm at work editing a scene with maya.
>>
>>740940529
Same here, 1200 hours on vanilla and i still have so many things to explore
>>
I might buy it and just keep it around until I get a better pc, loved just flying around killing xenon and look at the huge square cargo ship in x2 after finishing it, played x3 for a bit and albion something too but its too laggy already for my pc. Best I've done was making a somewhat close loop energy cell factory.
>>
>>740941475
Your computer is too weak for X3? Surely that must be a typo
>>
>>740941582
Yep, im still on i5 3570k from 2013 with hdd.
>>
Do mods make the AI warfare better at all?
>>
I really enjoy X Rebirth and i'm tired of pretending I don't.
>>
>>740942945
Rebirth was enjoyable after years and years of patches. I wouldn't say it was a good X game though. Still the best environments in the series and X4 was a massive downgrade in this regard
>>
This game is really cool with headtracking. I use my VR headset as a ghetto trackir, as backward as that sounds.
>>
>>740943108
Can you explain how that works? you're like watching a virtual screen in your headset and it registers as a trackir? that would be pretty dope.
>>
>>740944281
Sadly no, it's just wearing my headset on my head without looking into it, and just using it to track head movement. Basically a $500 piece of gear emulating what a $150 device does.
>>
>>740943097
>Rebirth was enjoyable after years and years of patches.
And mods.
>I wouldn't say it was a good X game though.
Oh it was a terrible fucking X game, but it was a fantastic Freelancer/I-War 2 style game in the X Universe.

>Still the best environments in the series
Art direction in general was the best the series has ever had imo, the environments are still mind blowing and I love the more industrial design to everything. No X game before or since has had created such a sense of exploration and wonder. It felt alive whilst every other X game feels sterile.
>>
>>740944413
Maybe with vorpx it can work the way I'm describing it. I already own that shit and I've never used it.
>>
>>740936842
My problem with games like this is that they lack purpose. Pure sandboxes lost their appeal a long time ago. There's all these interesting sounding things to do, but there's no reason to do them. I wish this style of game could evolve into the next phase.
>>
>>740944678
When given the option to do anything I'll chose to do nothing.
>>
>>740944678
Sounds like a you problem, i certainly enjoy setting my own goals in the game. Playing the same save since last summer, and there are always new things to do.
>>
>>740944678
>My problem with games like this is that they lack purpose.
Why do you need others to give you purpose? Are you a slave?
>>
>>740944678
I thought this one had storylines like X did
>>
>>740945514
It does.
>>
I still want o know how go ai shit can get if I use mods
>>
>>740939365
X4 is more like an ant farm than a 4X game. Factions can't snowball or it'll break the simulation.
>>
>>740948940
>Factions can't snowball
But they can. Even the basic Xenon faction can snowball and take over most sectors in some games.
>>
>>740949606
With mods how good is it
>>
did they change weapon balancing? there was basically no reason to use anything but argon flak and plasma.
>>
>>740936842
Is the late game performance still ass?

Pretty much this, you might as well play EVE online unless you want custom races and empires.
>>
>>740952651
You dont need to have an opinion about everything. You obviously havent played X4.
>>
>>740951635
Yeah. Plasma has a 1-2 km shorter range than most main batteries now (balanced by the fact that the AI isn't shit at using main batteries any more). Tracking turrets are the new L plasma, but in exchange you have to manage ammo. Turrets are way better at aiming in general. Flak and the new Blast Mortar turrets are still your standard anti-fighter option, although you have sniper turrets like mass driver now.
Most S class and M class weapons have had their properties changed. Mk2 weapons for M and S nearly doubled in cost, and some weapons like the ion blaster have had their costs come down to be reasonable alternatives to other weapons. Everyone can equip Boron weapons now (except L and XL class), which is nice.
>>
>>740936842
>spend an hour setting up HOTAS
>satisfied, close the game
>boot up the next day
>the game has randomly deleted or scrambled half of the settings
>delete game and refund
Also hideous NPCs I hear you cannot even mod out.
>>
>>740952651
Sorry gramps, nowadays we want to be able to actually fly our ships.
>>
>>740936842
is it engoodened by now?
I do remember it felt tiny and underwhelming compared to X3 and Albion Prelude, but those krauts always needed few years of patches for their games to become good
>>
I love X4 and would play more of it but I'm in the middle of a Battletech obsession right now
>>
>>740942945
one thing I really liked about Stillbirth was the capital ships
they were fuckhuge, with hundred individual torrents, they were flying beasts
X4 completely dropped the ball on that

It has far better performance than late game Unmodded 3.
Trading is still kinda shit in comparison which is sad.
>>
>>740953681
Can your ships reliably restock ammo/missiles without you fucking around with manual trades?
>>
>>740955676
If they're in a fleet with an auxiliary or a carrier.

x4 looks cool but is too autistic for me
elite dangerous is loading screens
star trucker is no fun allowed
>>
Great game but I recommend the mod that makes people look better and whiter.

Also, Martian supremacy, we will retake Earth
>>
>>740956153
come and get it, bitch
>>
>>740943097
>>740944437
I still remember that asteroid colony you visit at the start of the game and that destroyed planet you fly through if you took the highway. Both were things I wish X4 had. Asteroid colonies and massive environmental setpieces that dominate the space you fly in. X4 has .. Kingdom's End with the huge waterworld dominating space and the Avarice sector with it's tunnel through a nebula feel. Game needs more of that.
>>
>>740951392
A lot of people like the "Interworlds" which is apparently the best open world Star Wars game ever made. It's a total conversion mod and I appreciate wanting to pretend you're Han Solo and do trading or (space) mercenary work in the Star Wars universe. No planetary stuff or ground combat though.
>>
>>740956153
>Also, Martian supremacy, we will retake Earth
I'm annoyed that Mars wasn't terraformed. They just live in domes and called it a day. Same with some of Jupiter and Saturn's moons which would be great candidates.
>>
>>740957051
I actually can name like 4 charactesr out of Star Wars
Never got into it
Han, Chewbecca, the big robot, the little robot, Leia and my identical twin, Jabba
Darth Vader, Luke and red face Darth Vader
>>
>>740957137
What the fuck is that mod
>>
I see some mods require timelines. Is that DLC still shitty? I heard it wasn't all that great.
>>
>>740960743
It's not great. I like the ships you get out of it, but going through the rigamarole of doing all the Timelines missions was not fun.
>>
>>740960743
Shitty is a stretch, its not a typical DLC but it adds variety and i liked that.
